Print without wires!

HP LaserJet Pro P1102w (CE658A) Duplex Up to 1200 dpi USB / Wireless Monochrome Laser Printer
HP LaserJet Pro P1102w (CE658A) Duplex Up to 1200 dpi USB / Wireless Monochrome Laser Printer

Pros: Small footprint, quick setup and so far flawless function with multiple laptops and smartphones. Inexpensive solution for home use with enough guts to support business print requirements.

Cons: Given its super lightweight construction I can only guess as to its long term durability. Not so much a Con as it is an observation.

Overall Review: This is working out as a great solution for printing from laptops, never did like using docking stations or USB cables in order to print. No print servers or hardwiring of the printer that would limit its placement, fits on a small bookshelf or any convenient location.

Seagate Central

Seagate Central STCG2000100 2TB Cloud Storage System
Seagate Central STCG2000100 2TB Cloud Storage System

Pros: Bare bones consumer NAS to store and backup data. Easily setup for basic access to content, and works as advertised.

Cons: The remote access "Tappin" is dreadful! Slow does not describe how awful this choice of sevrvice is. Despite my best efforts to stream content locally on a gigabyte hardwired connection the unit still buffers every 2 seconds. What's up with this?

Overall Review: This replaced a Buffalo unit that bricked on me, (I'd never give them another cent for their products) but when it worked, it performed. Seagate has some work to do on this product to make it the device people want / need.

Worth the price, mostly a positive experience

Pros: Boots up from cold start in 8.5 seconds average- Once I enter logon credentials I'm at my desktop view in 17-20 seconds total. Quick!! The display is very nice, crisp and customizes easily.

Cons: I clung to my Win 7 Pro operating system for dear life, sadly I'm reminded that it's no longer supported or compatible with new software or the functionality of some web destinations. Win 10 Home is an awful experience, I've spent two days disabling all the bloat and craplications that live within it. Seriously this is making my user experience of an otherwise very good machine kind of a pain. The machine construction is what you would expect from a low cost laptop. The hinge is very stiff and makes me wonder if it will become problematic with regular use. Durability is probably my only real concern, I guess time will tell. If there are physical short comings, then I have to believe there might be some low cost component decisions within.

Overall Review: There are some simple upgrades that would have made my experience better. There isn't a visual "num lock" indicator light on the number pad, but rather an icon that pops up on the screen that toggles on or off as you depress the button. Why would that have been a better solution? The Lan port has a small spring loaded ramp that drops down in order to accept an RJ45 plug, I don't see this as being a long lived design element. Too bad for what is otherwise a pretty nice machine. If you've been using and older "overbuilt" machine, be prepared for a much lighter and borderline fragile unit.

BUFFALO LS-V2.0TL 2TB LinkStation Pro LS-VL Network Storage
BUFFALO LS-V2.0TL 2TB LinkStation Pro LS-VL Network Storage

Pros: Sleek looking, easy setup, decent interface and ease of file access.

Cons: Sadly these thing are notorius for becoming bricks. Firmware fails leave the content unaccessible and unit "bricked" Buffalo has no support to speak of, and will not look at any unit outside of the warranty period. No way to reset the unit once it fails -

Overall Review: It's too bad that these drives fail at the rate they do, just look at their forums to confirm this, when it worked it was a great product, but when firmware fails there's no recovery. Will replace with a different manufacturer, a sad fact of how Buffalo supports their products.
