Simple & Powerful
Pros: - I personally love the style of this laptop: simple and mute. I don't fancy super gamery looking laptops - The build quality is pretty good. The top half is metal (probably aluminum). The frame and keyboard have very little flex. The bottom half is plastic. - Colorful's included software that came preinstalled, Control Center 3.0, is simple and works like a dream. Within this software you can control fan curves, keyboard color, custom macros, and power profiles. Any changes applied in the software will take effect right away. You don't have to restart or refresh anything. There are 4 different power profiles: 'Media' (default, and just uses Windows default power settings), 'Power Saving' (does what is says), 'Quiet' (limits hardware performance so your fans don't have to kick in), and my favorite: 'Performance' (Gives your hardware all the juice it needs and proceeds to bulldoze any game you put in front of it... within the capabilities of a RTX 3060 at least) - The RTX 3060 in this system is the 110W version, which means on Performance or Media mode it has comparable performance to that of a high teared mobile RTX 3060 and comes close to trading blows with some lower tear mobile RTX 3070s. It is amazing! ⚡⚡⚡ - The cooling is adequate enough for the hardware to run at advertised speeds (no thermal throttling or any of that jazz). In fact my temps never reached 90C. The fans are pretty loud though. - I am no color aficionado but the IPS panel seems pretty great too. No bad viewing angles or weird colors. It is plenty bright too, I usually keep it at half brightness! 144Hz looks amazing after coming from 60Hz displays. I can't go back! 😎 - A wide variety of ports (just as advertised on Newegg's spec list) - No bloatware!
Cons: - Battery life is meh (like 3 to 4 hours web surfing, and around 2 gaming) but that was expected considering the hardware that this system is rocking. - No 1 year warranty like the major players like ASUS, Lenovo, Acer, ect. - This laptop is very loud at 100% fan speed, but that was also expected. If you find yourself in a quiet setting (like the library) just turn on the quiet setting in the included Control Center 3.0 software. - Removing the bottom panel to access hardware is a little tricky. - Drivers don't come preinstalled so you will have to do that yourself if you don't trust Windows to download them for you - The keyboard's RGB software is very basic. Only solid colors, no custom rainbow matrix waterfalls here.. at least not through their own software as far as I know. - Laptop speakers sound like typical laptop speakers, but who consistently uses laptop speakers anyway? - Sadly this laptop has no XMP so your locked on RAM specs such as CAS Latency. Here is the link to the modules my system came with: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-8gb-260-pin-ddr4-so-dimm/p/0RM-0092-000T9?Item=9SIAKD3GNG4829 I Upgraded to some Gskill modules at 3200mhz and CL18, but the computer continues to run them at CL22. At the time of writing this review Colorful has not released any BIOS updates for this laptop. (ヘ･_･)ヘ┳━┳ (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻
Overall Review: I have only had this laptop for a week now, but I love it already. It has way more power than I expected. My previous computer was a desktop rocking a Ryzen 7 3700x and a GTX 1070, and in games this laptop is about 15% faster! I also will be doing a lot of CAD via Solidworks plus STL conversion, and so far these application have been nice a smooth (and crash free!). All in all a great laptop especially if you can get it on sell for around $1000. Give Colorful a try!
