re-reviewing after windows updated
Pros: very good construction quality. dont have to feel shy about handling it. fan actually does decent job at cooling if you customize the overdrive option in amds suite. I have mine to 2000 rpm min and 4800 rpm max and I also adjusted target temp down some so heat is caught beforehand. oddly enough flashing the bios to watercooled edition seemed to help therms but ive recently flashed back once I got the fan moving faster. originally I thought the card was defective because I could only install gigabytes site driver version 17.30 without crashes or errors. this is because I was running windows 10 x64 pro version 10.0.10240 build 10240.. ancient lol. after I downloaded the iso and installed new creators update version of win10 the new amd drivers that fixed the random system hangs, version 17.11.1, installed fine. so no, the driver crash issue or the not_less_or_equal error bsod was not the rx vega. so that is a pro to me.
Overall Review: I just wish I didnt have to upgrade windows 10 to enjoy good drivers.. but its not really amds fault. just how older win10 handles sm bus and other things. its a good buy if you are dedicated to troubleshooting to get it working. in cancelling my rma and glad it didnt have to come to that.
followup review for those needn backplate
Pros: great cooling. used it on my phenom 975 and currently use it on ryzen 7 1800x.
Cons: none for what it does and what is required to do what it does. size and noise just comes with function.
Overall Review: for those needing the backplate for AM4, it is for sale on the manufacturers website. neweggs old listing used to say that. idk why this new listing doesn't. the backplate is an extra 5 or 10 dollars. EDIT: Here is the link to Thermaltakes bracket product page for anyone that needs it. https://ttpremium.com/product/frio-silentnicriing-silent-12-series-am4-bracket/
