Just what I needed
Pros: * Effective. My fiancee's Dell Studio 15 had been shutting down due to heat when watching movies or playing games, and its hard drive developed an awful lot of bad sectors. I don't have any hard numbers, but with the cooler the keyboard doesn't even feel warm to the touch during TF2 anymore. Before, playtime was somewhat under an hour before shutdown. * Quiet. * Includes a passthrough USB port to make up for the one it needs to use.
Cons: * It is rather large, and probably more suited for a desktop replacement laptop than an ultraportable. This fits my usage perfectly, but your mileage may vary.
Overall Review: Paid around $40 after rebate.
Pros: It works well enough.
Cons: Not a fan of the soft key feel. I bought with a new computer because all the others were old and gungy, but I demoted it to my MythTV box and went back to an old and gungy one. Next time I'll spend more for a keyboard with a solid feel.
Pros: * Looks nice. * Good airflow. * Toolless access is a breeze. * Lots of bays and ports.
Cons: My front audio jack doesn't make a solid connection; I have to be pushing the connector up for Windows 7 to detect the device. Windows XP was fine; it just sent sound to the device without trying to detect it. I have a mechanical workaround, but it's a bit annoying.
Overall Review: The best case I've ever owned, although that's not saying much. 3 1/2 years and still running strong. And I've randomly seen several other people using the same case, or the silver model. That's got to be worth something.
Pros: Cools the northbridge on my mini-ITX LinHES (MythTV) box.
Cons: After about a year and a half of continuous running, it's started making a little more noise in the last few months.
Pros: Bought to build a small LinHES (MythTV) box for my living room. The box is small and tucks away nicely, and the power suppy runs everything it needs to nicely (Atom board, TV tuner, HDD). Ventilation is good enough that the only fan in the thing is on the northbridge.
Cons: When I say small, I mean small. The second hard drive bay covers the vents on the side, so I'm stuck with just one hard drive. (That's fine, 2TB is plenty.) I'd advise against adding an optical drive as well - that will fill the space up quick. The other main issue I have is that the case covers up the bottom of the PCI panel, so my tuner's remote dongle has to be wedged in at kind of an angle. I can't get a solid connection, so I only get the receiver and not the blaster. That's fine for me, but watch out for cards with low connectors.
Pros: * Easy to install. * Works well.
Cons: * Needs external power, so I need to fish out a separate power outlet whenever I want to use it.
Overall Review: Slapped a 2TB drive in here to use as a backup and never looked back.
