Do your homework
Pros: Very quiet. Runs cool. Large cache.
Cons: This is one of the 'new' advanced format drives. If you're using it for extra data drives, you should be fine. If you're using it for a system disk, you'll likely have to jump through hoops. WinXP requires the use of Western Digital's WDAlign software. Linux requires some manual sector aligning before working properly. Windows 7 seems to support it natively, but after installing my chipset drivers (nVidia), I ran into some issues and had to roll back to the default Windows drivers. Microsoft's KB982018 details this somewhat and provides a fix, which seems to work.
Overall Review: If you plan on using this as a system disk, be sure your motherboard drivers and OS is able to support advanced format drives or you could be in for a headache.
Not the greatest
Pros: Drives seem to run cool and quiet with no vibration. Good sized cache.
Cons: Ordered 5 for a Synology NAS box. One was DOA, which didn't inspire confidence.
Overall Review: Even though we bought an expensive 8-bay NAS unit from NewEgg, they would only allow us to purchase 5 drives at once. Had to wait 48 hours to order the 6th drive we needed. Makes no sense to limit purchases of NAS-specific drives. The drives were packed in individual air pillows, but just thrown loosely into a large box. When the box arrived, it was so badly beaten from the drives bouncing around, the drives were about to fall out.
Decent NAS box
Pros: Very quiet running. Nice web interface with tons of options and features, very intuitive. Multi-platform support. Case feels solid.
Cons: Slow building; I added two 4TB drives to my existing 3-drive (same make/model 4TB drives) RAID-5 array. It took roughly 36 hours before all new space was available. The hard drive caddies/sleds are plastic and feel very cheap and flimsy. They do not eject cleanly which makes me feel like they'll break if removed often.
Overall Review: The status LED shows if there's an error state. However, if you can't access the web interface there's no telling what the error is. In this case and external LCD would be helpful. Seems a little pricey for what it is.
Great no-frills board
Pros: No problem with layout, solid build. Click-BIOS is a breeze with lots of advanced/over-clocking options. Great price and a great board for the price.
Cons: Nothing major given the price point. Would be nice if all USB ports were 3.0 and all SATA ports were 6Gb/s.
Overall Review: This is a no-frills board. It comes with what's pictured: Two SATA cables, I/O shield, driver disc and very basic manual. Be advised that it does not come with any other hardware --no screws, stand-offs, etc.
Never got it
Pros: Couldn't say; I ordered this adapter, but was shipped an entirely different model.
Cons: The model that I did receive (EP-N1557) worked poorly with a 24Mbps connection on my wireless-n network. The adapter I was replacing got three times the throughput. Drivers ship on a mini-CD. I wasn't able to find any drivers on the company's website for this model.
Overall Review: Thankfully NewEgg refunded me since the return shipping would cost more than the item itself.
Bad RAM, slow RMA
Pros: None
Cons: Multiple crashes and blue screens out of the box on a new build. Isolated to RAM after running memtest86, showing multiple errors in dual-channel mode. Corsair granted RMA. I understand this can happen, but here's my gripe; I requested Corsair pre-ship the RAM, as I couldn't afford the down time (single stick worked in single-channel mode), however, they would not. I would gladly pay a deposit, whatever to avoid down time. Now I'm paying out of pocket to ship the bad RAM to Corsair, plus my computer is down for 2 weeks while I wait for a replacement.
Overall Review: Corsair should change their RMA policy so their customers are less impacted by faulty products.
