Most Favorable Review

Easy to set up, smart firmware.

ASUS RT-N12 N300 Wi-Fi Router 2T2R MIMO Technology, 4K HD Video Streaming, VoIP, Up to 300 Mbps
ASUS RT-N12 N300 Wi-Fi Router 2T2R MIMO Technology, 4K HD Video Streaming, VoIP, Up to 300 Mbps

Pros: Inexpensive, reliable, flexible, and easy to use.

Cons: none so far

Overall Review: I set this up as a wireless range extender at home. When I needed to use it as an access point plugged into a gateway somewhere else, I just changed the mode. There would have been a problem because the 192.168.1.0 subnet would have conflicted with the gateway. The router figured that out and automatically changed its IP address to avoid conflict with the gateway, and sent the link to get me to the admin page at the new address. Brilliant and unexpected.

Most Critical Review

Four good ports, four limited ports

LaView LV-KD5184B Cube Series 8 CH Security DVR Cloud System w/ Easy DIY Four 600TVL Infrared Surveillance Cameras (No HDD)
LaView LV-KD5184B Cube Series 8 CH Security DVR Cloud System w/ Easy DIY Four 600TVL Infrared Surveillance Cameras (No HDD)

Pros: PC application works well, with fast, responsive UI, easy search, and lots of display options. Full access to configure recorder via Internet Explorer. Android app works on my Note 3. Cameras have sturdy mounting brackets and quality appearance.

Cons: The first four ports can do D1 resolution at up to 30 FPS. Ports 5 through 8 are limited to 6 FPS at D1. I expected all 8 ports to record D1 at at least 15 FPS. The cameras have disappointing low light performance.

Overall Review: Very inexpensive for what you get. If you can live with four cameras, it is a great DIY basic starter system.

HOSAFE 2MD3W 1080P Varifocal HD IP Camera Outdoor Night Vision ONVIF H.264 Motion Detection Email Alert Remote View Via Smart Phone/Tablet/PC, Working With Foscam IP Camera Software Blue Iris iSpy IPC

Pros: A good value. I liked the specs. Good image quality.

Cons: It took a few weeks to get the camera, and I had to fix it.

Overall Review: The camera wasn't damaged in transit; the box was clean and showed no sign of improper handling. It didn't work at all, and when I shook it lightly I could hear something rattle inside. I took it apart, and a small screw fell out. After removing the screw, the camera worked, and the image quality was good. You can configure and view output from the camera using the software you download from the camera itself. It only worked in Internet Explorer, and the software isn't signed, so you have to override Windows security. Error messages are sometimes in Chinese, and there is no help or hints. Be sure to download firmware updates to the camera right away, it worked better after I did. The camera will download and install the new firmware with just a couple of clicks.

Good single gaming monitor

ASUS VW266H Black 25.5" HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 (ASCR 20000:1) Built in Speakers w/ component connector
ASUS VW266H Black 25.5" HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 (ASCR 20000:1) Built in Speakers w/ component connector

Pros: Large 1920x1200 resolution much better than 1920x1080 for web or office tasks. Inexpensive Good response times. No dead pixels on mine.

Cons: Ridiculously blue out of the box. Very narrow viewing angle - color and gamma shifts with even small head movements make it unusable for photo editing. If you plan on a multi-monitor setup, the difference in viewing angles means that the monitors will never match for color or contrast.

Overall Review: Ridiculously blue out of the box. I calibrated it with a Spyder2 Pro. R100 G92 B75 Brightness 99 Contrast 74. The color and gamma shifts are bad, particularly with up-and down movements. In fact, without moving my head at all, the white background of this page is a little yellow at the top and a little blue at the bottom. This is not good, even for a large TN monitor. If you do any photo editing work at all, or plan to use a multi-monitor setup and want the colors to match across the panels, this model is not a good fit. On the other hand, if you want a large, inexpensive gaming monitor and have a very good video card to support the 1920x1200 resolution, this monitor is a good choice. Just don't plan on using it for an Eyefinity setup.

Great specs & value

Acer Laptop Aspire AMD Athlon II Neo Dual-Core K325 (1.30GHz) 3GB Memory 250GB HDD ATI Radeon HD 4225 11.6" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit AS1551-4755
Acer Laptop Aspire AMD Athlon II Neo Dual-Core K325 (1.30GHz) 3GB Memory 250GB HDD ATI Radeon HD 4225 11.6" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit AS1551-4755

Pros: Dual core processor DX 10.1 capable video 3GB RAM instead of the usual 2GB Win 7 Home Premium

Cons: None yet. We'll see once I open the box. ;) I expect to see a lot of bloatware and trial software, that is unfortunately pretty standard these days.

Overall Review: It has what I was looking for: o Recent model dual core processor (Neo K325) o Recent model graphics chip (HD 4225) I did a lot of shopping. NewEgg has a very good price; at this price you typically get just a single core processor and 2GB of RAM.

Inexpensive large gaming monitor

ASUS VW266H Black 25.5" HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 (ASCR 20000:1) Built in Speakers w/ component connector
ASUS VW266H Black 25.5" HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 (ASCR 20000:1) Built in Speakers w/ component connector

Pros: Large readable desktop. Good value. Color is good enough for gaming after calibration. Mine had no dead or stuck pixels.

Cons: Too blue at default settings. No height adjustment.

Overall Review: The 25.5 inch screen size with 1920 x 1200 gives a large readable desktop. Even after calibration (Spyder2 Pro), the gamma isn't consistent across all three colors. No height adjustment and no VESA mount holes so you're stuck. As is typical for TN panels, this one is no good for photo editing. If you can afford and IPS panel, get one. I have been spoiled by having an IPS panel, so just about any TN panel isn't going to measure up.
