Don't fear this unknown brand

Pros: No bells or whistles Very little pre-loaded unwanted-ware to remove Very well put together with good materials Worked as advertised I was expecting a mediocre machine - its not!
Cons: Not ready to go out of the box No help from the documentation Windows 8 is annoying
Overall Review: I generally agree with the comments from other reviewers. What nobody has said is that this is an "Off-Brand" machine that really delivers. The on-sale price was simply too good to resist, but my expectations were low. I was surprised when this machine arrived and the build quality rivals machines at twice the price. Durability is an unknown, but the performance, features, and quality were way above what I thought was possible at that price point. If you are not Windows savvy, get someone to help you set up the SSD before you start using it. There are a couple of choices on how to use it best for you, and picking one and making it work requires some work under the hood. Correct setup here is the key to making this machine's responsiveness rival your desktop. Buy a 4 GB USB key at the same time, and make a windows 8 recovery key. Its not obvious how to do this, but there are instructions on several forums. You will be glad you did in several years. Either that, or get a USB optical drive, and build a recovery disk. Oh, and that disk in the box includes some fairly worthless utilities, but also a complete set of Windows 7 drivers for the motherboard for those who want to put 7 on the machine instead. Nice touch!
Make sure you really want this!

Pros: - This unit is very well made, and easy for a beginner to set up - The ultra small footprint is what you are paying for - Perfect for HTPC, except the remote control issue
Cons: By the time you have added memory, a WiFi, and some disk solution, this is NOT an inexpensive choice for a media player. Capable, yes, but cheap, no. I could not get the IR working under Linux, despite others having reported doing this. It is possible that mine is defective, but more likely the current BIOS is not compatible with the existing Linux solutions. Beware that setting up the IR is not straightforward. The cardboard box makes you listen to the intel jingle while you are unpacking it. You read that right. There is no SPDIF output
Overall Review: Intel seems to have invented their own BIOS for these, and those familiar with other "Standard" BIOS will want to get familiar with it. Given that the integrated IR receiver was the deal clincher for me, I am not happy with the outcome here. Those running windows on it may be luckier, but I won't be buying any more of these.
Good as Gold

Pros: Same as factory toner Printer can't tell the difference Much more competitive price
Cons: No real directions
Overall Review: I have used several different Rosewill toners, and they have all worked just fine in my HP printer. One was a little dusty (loose toner) coming out of the package, so open them over a smooth surface you can clean up. No reason to pay much more for factory toner when these are the same quality.
Its a Honey, But........

Pros: The disk drive shows 3000 hours of use, moderate for a 3 year old machine. Overall condition is excellent for a refurb, good enough for me to give this one to my daughter as a gift. Everything works, typical superb thinkpad build and wifi radio. The 520M processor is good enough for anything except gaming. Not the best screen out there, but 1280 x 800 is fine on a 12" panel. Streams high res video off the network with ease, although a slight blue-ish caste to everything. The keyboard on this one is in near perfect condition, although not a replacement. Battery is just a 4-cell, and shows only 150 cycles - lots of life left, but only has capacity for maybe 2-3 hours from a full charge. I plan to pick up a 9-cell aftermarket. Legal code for Win7 pro that activated from my retail disk (none included with the machine), a nice bonus over Win 7 home premium. Overall, YMMV, but this one is a honey.
Cons: This particular unit is the bare-bones X-201, with really none of the extra options installed. It DOES have 4 GB of memory, but no webcam, no bluetooth, no mobile data radio, no higher res screen, no SSD. The little reading light works though!
Overall Review: I put SSD's in everything these days, and I never tried the included 160 GB disk, except to verify that it spun up and to extract the drivers from it. With an Adata SX900 and a clean install, this machine boots in 10 seconds and shuts down faster. Be aware that this is a SATA-II link internally, so don't pay extra for a faster SSD, as it will be link limited.
Update to previous review

Pros: Still a nice machine, decent performer.
Cons: The disk became corrupted during an update and the machine would not boot. The power supply also died. The machine had about 100 hours on it. Avatar product support tried to help out with a recovery key, but could not get the machine running. RMA was easy, but beware - the warranty repair depot is in the states, and they ship via UPS.
Overall Review: For those who are not aware, UPS will charge brokerage fees if the shipper does not declare the item correctly, which Avatar did not. Cost me $88 to get mine back from UPS.
Not DDR3 1600

Pros: Run reliably at 1600 so far. Good value!
Cons: Memory reports DDR3 1333 parameters at power up as others have noted. Do not expect to drop these into your system and get DDR 1600 speeds, you will have to over clock manually.
