SoCal Timewarner

MOTOROLA SB5120 Surfboard Cable Modem 38Mbps Downstream, 30Mbps Upstream USB and Ethernet 10/100Base-T DOCSIS 2.0/1.1
MOTOROLA SB5120 Surfboard Cable Modem 38Mbps Downstream, 30Mbps Upstream USB and Ethernet 10/100Base-T DOCSIS 2.0/1.1

Pros: Works well. Installed quickly. Stable.

Cons: If you are expecting for speed boosts, there's not much improvement. Timewarner is capped at it's service plan. My service probably only improved about 200kbps (from ~5600kbps to 5800kbps)

Overall Review: Must call for activation. Netgear router (WGT624) was quite a hassle to solve and to get to work with this modem.

bang for $$

ZEROtherm ZEN FZ120 120mm CPU Cooler
ZEROtherm ZEN FZ120 120mm CPU Cooler

Pros: quiet, solid cooler! keeps my phenom II 940 @ 3.8ghz nice and cool. especially in this summer heat.

Cons: not exactly a con, but i wonder if it would do better with a finished base...and it's pretty big...okay it's very big. do some measurements in your case etc before purchasing. it may block ram slots in AMD motherboards. i just moved the fan up a bit though and it was fine.

Overall Review: everyone gets different numbers, even then reviewers. do your research before purchasing a good cooler! this is definitely bank for buck! considering it runs almost as well as the more expensive coolers. also gives you everything you need in the box.

3.8ghz with cooln'quiet ON

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Processor - HDZ940XCGIBOX
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Processor - HDZ940XCGIBOX

Pros: hit 3.8ghz right out the box, but not with stock cooler. i set the multiplier to auto, 1.52v, and changed the bus speed to 254. left cool n' quiet and it works perfectly!

Cons: it's not an core i7.

Overall Review: using the gigabyte 790x ud4p 2gb corsair ddr2 800 ram (upgrading to 4 or 8gb ddr2 1066 later) zerotherm zen 120mm cooler.

NICE!

GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: excellent overclockability! pushed my phenom II 940 to 3.8 without any problems. AND with Cool n' Quiet on... stays cool as my CPU, sometimes a bit higher, but nothing outrageous. plus it's the summertime where everyday is 105+°F degrees here. without the airconditioning on, it runs average of 40°C. i upgraded from a X2 4600+ 90nm. and this definitely made a difference.

Cons: I wish they'd make it SLI compatible.

Overall Review: tomshardware claimed it was impossible to overclock the phenom II 940 @ 3.8ghz w/ cool n' quiet on. they way i did it was just change the bus speed to 254 and leaving the multiplier on auto. also changed the voltage to 1.52v. everything ran perfect for me. using a zerotherm zen heatsinfan. the highest i've seen it hit was 54°C at 3.8ghz, averages around 45°C. at stock 3.0ghz. highest @ 46°C, average 40°C. with cool n' quiet activated and idled, 36°C or lower! NICE!
