Pros: It would be great in a small workgroup, works fast using local accounts.
Cons: Chokes on a large domain (500,000+ AD users, 300,000 AD groups).
Overall Review: When using local accounts, this thing flies, tied into a large AD, it has huge lag time. The WebDav login takes over 3 minutes to authenticate. It takes several minutes just display the AD groups when setting permissions on shares. File browser take up to 4 minutes to display all the shared folders as it pulls up permissions from the AD. Basically everything you do on this machine has a 2-4 minute lag time when connected to Active Directory.
Pros: Nothing over the top for a motherboard
Cons: Very specific RAM requirements. Missing critical parts! I have never heard of a motherboard that requires you to BUY the heatsink clip separately!! Granted its only a $3 part (part# BKT-0023L), but come on, they can't include that?
Overall Review: Just know that if you buy a retail Intel CPU (for me a Xeon E5505) with a genuine Intel heatsink (for me a BXSTS100A), it won't mount to your board unless you buy the heatsink clip separately!! How cheap is that??
Pros: It works
Cons: No heatsink included. I've bough lots of retail CPU's before, they all came with heatsinks until this one.
Overall Review: It would be nice if Newegg made a little more effort to let customers know that no heatsink is included with this retail CPU. Instead its at the very bottom of the Specs page. A little note in the description would have been nice.
Pros: Lots of storage.....
Cons: ....that means you just lose that much more data WHEN they fail.
Overall Review: I ordered 5 to put in a RAID5 system with hot spare. One failed during the Array Verification. It got about 20 minutes in after building the array when the RAID controller alarm went off. I swapped it out then a second disk (in a different drive bay) died a day later. My experience with these drives is a 40% failure rate in the first 24 hours of ownership. Yuck!!
Cons: Very poor quality
Overall Review: The first one arrived smashed in the box. The Newegg box was fine, the Simpletech box was fine. Its like SimpleTech packaged a drive that fell off the assembly line. It was of course DOA. The RMA replacment was the same thing. The drive was already scratched up right out of the box. That sent up some red flags. Plugged it in and it just clicks. I am opted for a refund this time and avoiding Simpletech products in the future.
