Quick, Great Price

Kingston 4GB Compact Flash Memory Card (CF/4GB)
Kingston 4GB Compact Flash Memory Card (CF/4GB)

Pros: Great card for the price. CF cards have been around so long, there's no reason to pay a premium for one. Works perfect in my IDE-CF adaptor. Using it as a drive to run FreeNAS.

Cons: None.

Most Critical Review

Well.. It's modular.

RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch
RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: Modular, decent power, quiet. Has bright blue lights if that's what you're in to. Saved some space. All the wires come with black weaved loom around them so they look fairly nice.

Cons: The modular wires have 6" pigtails coming out of the PSU so you still have a rats nest of unused wires.

Overall Review: I'm not big on lights, and I don't like the pigtails, but for the price I just can't complain. For nicer modular units theres a price gap that I couldn't cross for this "low-cost" project.

Snug but Solid

NORCO RPC-230 2U Rackmount Server Case 1 External 5.25" Drive Bays
NORCO RPC-230 2U Rackmount Server Case 1 External 5.25" Drive Bays

Pros: Compact 2U design. Solid construction, everything is held together with screws which makes it easier to modify. Fits four 3.5"s and a 5.25" which sounds like loads of room to me. It just feels solid. Very simple, but it looks nice.

Cons: Fans only hit two of the three 3.5" spots, but the PSU should pull air from around the 4th spot I assume. One fan was broken when I got the case but it was easily repaired with a dab of super glue. I guess it's loud.. but it's a server going in a working environment.

Overall Review: Good luck finding a modular PSU that works in this case (and you need one to save space). You need one that pulls air from the ends. Top/bottom fan PSU's won't be able to breath without cutting some vents. Bottom facing fans will breath a little.. 1mm clearance. The airflow in the case is great though. I fit an Intel Atom 330 mini ITX board in it without a problem. It has small coolers on it. Using my CF-IDE adaptor in the IDE slot I block access to one of the hard drive trays, and it's a tight fit in the case. It's only 3.5" tall with about 3" of usable height over the motherboard, so be careful choosing add-on cards, heatsinks/fans, CF-IDE convertors, etc.. It's a tight squeeze to fit components in here, you've got to pay attention to cable routes so that you aren't pinching or squeezing or pushing anything.. but there is enough room. I'd suggest round IDE cables (who uses IDE?) and modular PSU if you can find one with end fans. Bottom line.. I like it.

Great Price

Xbox Live Gold 12 Month Subscription Card [Microsoft]
Xbox Live Gold 12 Month Subscription Card [Microsoft]

Pros: Better price than auto-renewing, and better price than the Big Box stores around here. Thanks New Egg.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Buying this because I received the "Your subsciption is expiring and will auto-renew in 30 days.." email. Saved me $10.

Works Great

G.SKILL Value 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory Model F1-3200PHU2-2GBNT
G.SKILL Value 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory Model F1-3200PHU2-2GBNT

Pros: Works just great for old slow DDR. Definitely an upgrade for the computer it's in.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: These are no-nonsense sticks of memory. No heat spreaders or lights. They work great. BTW going from 256mb to 2gb will make Windows ask you to re-validate your copy because of large system changes. Thanks Microsoft.

MY EYES ARE ON FIRE

Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory w/ Red LEDs Model BL25664AR80A
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory w/ Red LEDs Model BL25664AR80A

Pros: Works as advertised. This memory puts off a neat little light show when it's being accessed. It's neat, and light pours out of all the vents on my otherwise drab black server case.

Cons: Unsure about the mounting off the heat spreaders, but no problems so far. Lights are VERY bright so not for people who don't like flashy..

Overall Review: Using it on an Intel Atom330 board running FreeNAS. Way more memory than I need but better to have too much than too little.
