The best music player!

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 1.9" Silver 8GB Video MP3 Player
SanDisk Sansa Fuze 1.9" Silver 8GB Video MP3 Player

Pros: I have a couple of these. The original Sansa Fuze is the best for a couple reasons for playing computer based music files. The key being, it can be RockBoxed, with the special firmware, then turns into an audiophile and compatibility powerhouse. You can play FLAC files or older Shorten file formats directly and have a custom multi band parametric EQ with the Rockbox. Much better sound than Ipod. Much lower price. Just the best. Get an add on card for up to 40 GB total memory. Run lossless compressed FLAC files, not lousy MP3's. Version 1 has the dial for control, which is preferred over the newer Version 2 Fuze.

Cons: Had a screen crack on one. Must get a separate hard shell plastic case for these to be safe. Some have problems with the audio jack. I leave my phones in all the time to not use it much. I've not had any problems.

Overall Review: Great for a reman price. Buy them while you can.

Most Critical Review

3 tb external seagate

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: I bought this drive from another place but buy most of mine from NewEgg. This drive is fast, quiet, and works fine so far.

Cons: Except! It runs very hot. You won't know this from just feeling the plastic case. If you take the drive out of the case and run it continuously for 3 hours, it is very hot to the touch. Inside the case, it would be hotter than outside, but you wouldn't know due to the poor heat transfer to the plastic case. Needs a better enclosure with a fan. I use it out of the case with a fan on it now.

Overall Review: Very disappointed in the engineering on this external drive. One non-ventilated hermetically sealed plastic enclosure does not fit all drives across a product line, esp 7200 rpm drives. Long term data integrity is the question with such poor heat transfer from drive to case to environment. 5400 or 5900 rpm drives are best for external case drives unless fan equipped. I own multiple 7200 2 TB and 3TB and 5400/5900 2 TB drives from other manufacturers for comparison. This drive is the hottest running of all of these others by far.

Nice enclosure

Rosewill RX355-X2 BK ABS Cover and internal metal shielding 3.5" Black USB2.0 & eSATA External Enclosure

Pros: Just starting using this and like it alot for what it is. Very easy to swap out drives in this one. I did switch the direction of one of the two fans to improve the cooling function. That helps alot actually. I like the Rosewill metal case with fan enclosures the best, but this is a little cheaper being plastic and seems good too so far.

Cons: no problems so far. Wish it had USB3.0 and also esata.

Overall Review: Question for people: Can this handle 3 TB drives? What is the experience out there?

The Best Out There!

Rosewill RX358 RX-358-U3B Full Aluminum Cover, metal tray 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 3.0 External Enclosure
Rosewill RX358 RX-358-U3B Full Aluminum Cover, metal tray 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 3.0 External Enclosure

Pros: I've used these Rosewill usb2 and 3 cases over a year now. Just the best external single drive fan cooled cases out there as far as I'm concerned. Special today for $30 each that I am taking advantage of again. Great for those 3 TB HOT seagate drives or not quite but still pretty hot 2 or 3 TB Hitatchi 7200 rpm drives. Pretty quiet fan, solid metal case, pretty quick to swap out with only 4 screws to remove the panel, 3 TB capability and USB3.0.

Cons: Not free. Really should also include ESATA along with USB3.0. No excuse for that today any more. USB 3.0 is the best new standard, but ESATA is still pretty good and way better than USB2.0.

Overall Review: This is a very well engineered product. Note the Rosewill version of this case is NOT the same as other manufacturer's versions. I have one of those and the Rosewill power supply is better. Other manufacturer's version is flakey and didn't work with some drives.

Very good product

Hitachi GST Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 (0F12117) 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Hitachi GST Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 (0F12117) 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Very quiet drive. No data integrity problems after 2 months with 2 drives. Very fast drive for a non 7200 rpm drive. Very cool running drive. I also own other competitor 5900 rpm 2 TB drives and consider this equal to any others as top "data or storage" drives.

Cons: Nothing really. Could be faster as a 7200 drive, but then you have heat issues to deal with. I find those must have fans nearby, either in a case or with a fan driven external enclosure to handle the heat, for long term data integrity to avoid crashes. These are cool running instead and don't need a fan at all. I also have 2x Hitatchi 7200 2 TB drives, which are faster and great, but generate lots of heat that must be handled with a fan. I use one of those as a machine's boot drive just fine but put a fan blowing right on it in the case. I use the other in a fan driven external enclosure just fine.

Overall Review: I consider Hitatchi among the best current speed/cost/cool running/data integrity for consumer drives. I've had issues with some 7200 drives overheating badly without a fan. Any drive can have problems if run too hot = #1 cause of premature death.

Toooo Hot!!! Ouch !!

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: Very fast drive. No problems with data integrity after owning 2 months. Nice and quiet too.

Cons: This drive gets extremely hot to the touch in 2 hours and will burn you like a hot stovetop in 3 hours of constant use. This is true in the case or out of the case without ventilation. The case is terrible. I took it out and it gets this hot. I only use it 2-3 hours, then shutdown for at least 1 hour. Not practical to back up big drives for this reason. I would not buy this one again, but no problems with seagates with cooling.

Overall Review: Take it out of the case for sure and use a powered fan on it when in use. Then it is fine. I would not think about leaving this in its case for one second. I am a mechanical engineer with a masters in heat transfer and thermodynamics! Cool this thing down fast !
