Great Entry Level

HP ProLiant ML110 G6 Server System Intel Core i3-530 1GB Memory 160GB HDD 300W PS (597556-005)
HP ProLiant ML110 G6 Server System Intel Core i3-530 1GB Memory 160GB HDD 300W PS (597556-005)

Pros: Easy set up with WHS 2011 OEM. Being very new to servers entirely took me 2 evenings to get on line and running but this was me and not HP. I was scared to even try a server at first but saw this listed on Wegotserved forums and made the plunge. Could not be happier. The complaints about picky RAM need to remember that you are buying a server not a PC and thus want everything to be as solid as possible. Hence the Enterprise Drive for the operating system.

Cons: Mounting screws that HP provides don't have very goos slots in them. They could use a higher grade screw. 1GB of ram is insufficient for almost anything even bare bones would require 2GB (I went with 4GB).

Overall Review: Definitely a 5 Egg rating. HP did very well and Newegg priced it right in the sale I got with OEM WHS2011. This server will suit my needs for at least the next 5 years if not more. I added 3 2TB drives, 4GB of RAM, a SATA controller (for external eSATA ports) and an Antec Drive Caddy to the extra 5.25 bay so I could Hot swap actual backups. Excellent for an entry level server.

Pros: This PoE switch has been perfect for my needs. I built a camera system that6 needed PoE and I shopped for some time for somethuing reliable and sturdy because of the environment I installed this in and am very happy. This switch is installed in my garage in Texas where the temperatures often get over 110-120 degrees in the garage. I am using 3 of the 4 powered ports to run 3 security cameras in my house and all has been performing perfectly.

Cons: None I can think of.

Overall Review: I am so pleased with this product I have sold 2 more to friends of mine thast loved my camera system and they too are building identical camera systems.

Loving WHS 2011

Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 64-bit - OEM
Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 64-bit - OEM

Pros: I bought this since I was tired of losing family pictures scattered out accross man computers and to serve my security cameras. I am now using it for so much more. Install was excellent and fairly easy. I bought a SATA caddy for my server and occasionally back up family pictures and movies. WHS 2011 handles it's own backups you just designate what you want backed up.

Cons: I have just a couple of mild compolaints and one is the 2TB backup limit and the limitation to 2TB drives, especially as the price of 3TB drives is dropping I am hoping this improves with a future patch. This is really not an issue for me as yet since I have the SATA caddy to back up movies and family pictures but could be an issue for people with much larger data needs.

Overall Review: There has been complaints about DE being dropped and really if your backups are done you can manage quite well without it. There are 2 very nice candidates almost out of BETA testing to replace DE, Drivebender and Stabilbit Drivepool. To the people that were complaining about documentation you should look that the reason you got this at this price is its OEM and not retail. OEM is for system builders who know the software or novices and hobbiests that don't mind reading forums and learning on their own.
