Perfect fit!

Planar 997-5253-00 Black Dual Monitor Stand for LCD Displays
Planar 997-5253-00 Black Dual Monitor Stand for LCD Displays

Pros: The construction is sturdy and very stable on the desk, even with 24" monitors. It fits my two Asus VS248H-P monitors perfectly and provides enough space to have the perfect cant angle between them. There are enough adjustment points to align the monitors vertically and flush horizontally. I am really happy with this stand; it clears up my desk a lot.

Cons: I wish the support ring clamped on to the central post or attached with a bolt into holes in the post. Instead, there's one small bolt that provides friction on the post. Also, the instructions are a little hard to understand, and they seem to indicate that you assemble the unit upright, which is not the best way to do it (see below).

Overall Review: There's enough vertical space to adjust the height of the monitors to my liking, with the tops of the screens at eye level. If you are very tall or want the center of the screens at eye level, then this stand may not work for you. Many of the other reviewers remarked that the stand takes two people to assemble, but this is only true if you try to assemble it and attach the monitors while the stand is upright. Don't do it that way! Assemble the stand upright by itself and approximately set the arms for height and angle but don't tighten them. Then put the monitors face down on a soft surface like a bed, and attach the stand to the monitors. Tighten the arms most of the way so that you can pick up the stand with the monitors and put it on the desk. Once it's in place, you can make further adjustments pretty easily, then tighten everything up.

works well but a few design issues

GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Lots of ports in the back, including 1394, e-SATA, USB-3 and more USB-2 ports than you will likely use.

Cons: There aren't any screw holes in two of the corners so those corners have no physical support. This wouldn't be so bad but the 24-pin PSU cable connects near one of the corners and requires a fair bit of force to get it in. Maybe this is an issue with my Gigabyte Triton case, but the MB's power LED pinout calls for a 3-pin cable while my case has a 2-pin cable. Connecting the 2-pin cable to the MB's + pin and the unlabeled pin next to it seems to work. The onboard Ethernet freaked out and became unresponsive after less than a week. Deleting the driver under Windows (Win 7 64-bit) and letting it auto-reinstall fixed the problem. Somehow Windows was able to scramble the Ethernet so badly that it wouldn't work when booting under Linux. I'm not sure how that's even possible. The PCIEx4 slot shares bandwidth with the two PCIEx1 slots so using it disables the PCIEx1 slots, and vice-versa, but who cares about PCIEx1?

Overall Review: I usually skip the driver CD that comes with MBs and just use the drivers auto-installed by Windows. However Win 7 wasn't able to find a USB-3 driver, so you need to use the one on the CD.

Lots of space

WD Green WD40EZRX 4TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Bulk Bare Drive

Pros: I use this drive for nightly network backups so I can't really speak for its interactive performance. It provides a lot of space for very little cash, though. It's a solid performer.

Cons: After having used SSDs and laptop drives in my tower case for the past few years, I've gotten used to drives that are silent or super quiet. This drive is of course a little noisier, and when it's seated juuust right in the drive cage, it creates a nasty buzzing sound. That's probably the fault of the drive cage, though.

Overall Review: When they say "bulk bare drive", they mean it! It's literally a bare drive in a padded anti-static bag. Make sure you have mounting hardware and cables of your own.

Works as expected

iRam 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Memory For Apple Model IR4GSO1066D3K

Pros: If you have an older Macbook with 2GB and want to squeeze a few more years out if it, get this RAM module, a new battery, and most importantly, an SSD. After doing this refresh, my 2008 Macbook (aluminum) is almost like new, except for the non-Retina display.

Cons: Grab this RAM upgrade fast, before it's too late! (Oops, now that look at its page, it's already too late.)

Good value, solid performance

HyperX FURY 8GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model HX316C10FR/8

Pros: I got one stick of this RAM in red and one stick in black, for no good reason. The red one is a few bucks cheaper and seems to be identical. Unless you have a fetish for black components on your board, I say go for a set of red, white or blue, or better yet go for the patriotic color scheme and get a set of three!

Cons: Kingston doesn't specify what's different about the different colors, so I guess they are all the same except for the color of the heat spreader.

HyperX FURY 8GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Memory Model HX316C10FB/8

Pros: There's not much to say, it snaps in easily and does its job. It's not the highest spec RAM out there but it's worked without a hitch for me.

Cons: Hmm, the same RAM in red, white or blue costs a few bucks less but seems to be identical.
