Most Favorable Review

Get this one unless youre an extreme overckocker

Intel Core i7-14700F - Core i7 14th Gen Raptor Lake 20-Core (8P+12E) LGA 1700 65W None Integrated Graphics Processor - BX8071514700F
Intel Core i7-14700F - Core i7 14th Gen Raptor Lake 20-Core (8P+12E) LGA 1700 65W None Integrated Graphics Processor - BX8071514700F

Pros: - Cheap! (Even before the trade-in), plus I got it right before it sold out, plus plus you get the new Assassins Creed game for free. - Its the 14700k with a 200mhz slower clock, and no iGPU. Youll never need integrated graphics of the K series because, even if your graphics card dies, your PC will be unusable with iGPU except for the most basic operations, and youll just be ordering a replacement card anyway. - Doesnt require AIO (water) cooling

Overall Review: Dont be fooled by the 65 Watt TDP, this thing can be tuned to hit 219 Watts using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility software (Advanced Tuning>Turbo BoostShort Power Max [PL 2] ::set this to 219::/Turbo Boost Power Max [PL 1] ::set this to 65::) Note: Both PL (power level) settings can be set to UNLIMITED, too, which delivers the best results as per the benchmarking utility. Additionally, wattage makes a huge difference in Corona and V-Ray benchmarks, so dont leave this thing set to 65 Watts, or youre wasting its potential and your renders, UI responsiveness, and gaming will be sub-par. Knowing that the TDP can hit 219 Watts, be aware the stock air cooler that ships with it will be totally inadequate to prevent thermal throttling and serious performance degradation unless youre just running stuff like MS Office (but thats not why youd get a 20 core CPU). So, be prepared to go AIO (not really necessary until youre looking at something that runs 300+ Watts), or one of the air coolers capable of handling 219+ Watts (phantom spirit 120, peerless assassin). I upgraded from a 12700k, and this was an unexpectedly big jump. I first noticed in the Corona and V-Ray benchmarks, but in terms of real life experience, I can now run the new Indiana Jones game on high settings (still cant do DLAA or full RT reflections, etc., as that stuff requires the rtx 4090/5090) with zero issues, whereas prior to this, Id get a decent amount of choppiness, and had to turn down certain settings). I should mention that this is with the rtx 4070 Super I got after trading in my rtx 3080 Ti (3080 Ti being the MINIMUM required to run the game). I use the Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE 120 aRGB air cooler with the 14700F, and temps are around 87 degeees Fahrenheit idle.

Awful horrible overpriced junk

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4

Pros: Zero...none

Cons: False 30$ rebate comes up as $13 on Corsair site. These freeze my computer every time. Computer fine after I removed them. Way overpriced for 2gb. Sad latency. These CANNOT be RMA'd for a refund!

Overall Review: Do yourself a favor and pass these things up! You will regret not taking my advice. What utter junk.

The Beast

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti XC3 ULTRA GAMING Video Card, 12G-P5-3955-KR, 12GB GDDR6X, iCX3 Cooling, ARGB LED, Metal Backplate
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti XC3 ULTRA GAMING Video Card, 12G-P5-3955-KR, 12GB GDDR6X, iCX3 Cooling, ARGB LED, Metal Backplate

Pros: Its a 3090 with half the VRAM

Cons: Very high price

Overall Review: Got this via Newegg Shuffle, and while its hard to justify a $1200 video card, theyre reselling for 2x MSRP on TheBay and elsewhere, so its the cheapest price youre going to find anywhere- do get it if you can. Its basically a 3090 with half the VRAM, and is definitely overkill for just gaming, unless youre wanting to crank up Cyberpunk settings to Ultra. Coming from a 2060 Super, I can say that its a day/night experience playing games above 1440p resolution with RT enabled- meaning the 2060 cant manage playable FPS, while the 3080 Ti rips through it like its nothing. In other games that arent heavy with FX, reflections, etc., you really wont notice a difference at all, as the 2060 Super handles those easily. Originally, I was going to turn around and resell it, but here I am playing Mass Effect : Legendary Edition on my new 3080 Ti, instead.

As spec’d

MSI PRO Z490-A PRO LGA 1200 Intel Z490 ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI PRO Z490-A PRO LGA 1200 Intel Z490 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Bclk set at 100.0 so there’s no trickery going on- which is great. No DOA, no bent pins. Also, the pin outs for PWR, RESET, etc. is shown right there in the insert that comes with the board- no need to search online for any manual.

Cons: Still comes with a CD or DVD, so no good if you don’t have an optical drive.

Overall Review: Get your money’s worth, and unlike some mfg MSI doesn’t seem to stealth OC their boards.

EVGA vs Founders Ed.

EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER XC ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P4-3163-KR, 8GB GDDR6, Dual HDB Fans, RGB LED, Metal Backplate
EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER XC ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P4-3163-KR, 8GB GDDR6, Dual HDB Fans, RGB LED, Metal Backplate

Pros: -Super quiet- you’d have to check to se if it’s even running - OC out of the box (1695 MHz vs 1650 Founders) - 3 Displayport (Founders has 2) - 2 fan non-blower style - Metal back plate - Metro Exodus with RT and DLSS on high @ 1440p, no stutter (Note: You can’t use DLSS with HDR, or the screen gets completely washed out. Cannot run max settings @ 3840x2160) - Control on max settings @1440p w/ w/out DLSS, on no stutter (cannot run max settings @ 3840x2160) - All other games max settings no stutter $30 Rebate (limited time), so that brings it down neck and neck with Nvidia Founders Ed. version.

Cons: Godzilla sized card (270 mm vs 229 mm Founders). Don’t even consider for smaller than mid-tower cases. Also no go if you you need to fit other cards into slots beneath it, as it’s a tall card and cuts off a decent amount of space. Similarly, it’s a long card but, thankfully, the power connectors are on the side and not rear like the Founders edition version.

Western Digital WD Green WD10EADS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Super capacity. SATA2 to replace my old 250gb IDE (yikes). No click or DOA issues. Worked fine and packed fine.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Only order OEM hardware if you already have all the cables required to hook up your device bforehand, because OEM comes with none.
