Fast for a spinning drive
Pros: Very fast for a spinning disk. Sequential reads and writes of around 250MB/sec. Quiet.
Cons: Runs hot under constant access.
Overall Review: I would recommend this disk for general use, gaming, backup etc. I would have concerns about the heat if used in a NAS or poorly cooled case.
Works but slow
Pros: small, simple to set up, easy to use.
Cons: Slow, only about 25 Mbps in the same room as the router.
Overall Review: OK for the price but there are better units available...
Best for the price
Pros: Easy fast order and delivery. I've used this SW for years and NewEgg always has the best price for it. Easy to use, just follow the step by step directions and it's mostly automatic.
Overall Review: I would recommend this product. I will use it again next. Best tax SW at a good price.
Great expansion for Synology NAS
Pros: This was ridiculously easy to set up. Just install the drives in the screw-less carriers, plug them into the chassis, connect the eSATA cable and power up. The system sees all the new drives and displays the expansion chassis and drives in the GUI. Then you just choose how you want it setup (RAID5, RAID6 etc.) and the system does the rest. It builds the RAID and optimizes the RAID and filesystem. If you have SSD cache you can even split it between the main chassis array and the expansion array. I had two each 1TB SSDs (too large) and spilt the capacity between the two volumes. Once the RAID was complete I ran ATTO benchmarks on the both volumes and witnessed almost identical performance to both volumes. No performance penalty on the expansion chassis whatsoever. Also, the drives ran cool during all functions. I saw a maximum of 102 degrees F . I was concerned about the performance of the expansion chassis but no need for the concern. You can simply expand your primary volume across the two chassis but I would not recommend that. Separate volumes on each chassis is safer. I would recommend this expansion chassis to anyone wanting to expand their storage with a Synology NAS that supports the expansion chassis. It just works like it should and you can manage all your NAS storage through a single interface. I have the primary NAS connected via a bonded pair of GigE and can saturate both links and see around 220 MB/sec read or write sustained.
Cons: The only negative comment I would make is that it takes a LONG time to build and optimize the RAID and filesystem but that is to be expected I guess with large capacity disks. It took 7 days, 24 hours a day to complete the setup/optimization with 5 each 14TB disks. That was with the priority set on faster RAID resync. Even with this setting it does the work in a background mode so that you can still be using the NAS during this time. This makes sense for most users but it would be nice to have the option to run the build full speed when not using the NAS...
Overall Review: I do recommend this expansion chassis and would buy it again. I had considered a second Synology NAS instead of the expansion chassis but this route is slightly less expensive with no performance penalty and the convenience of a single management interface.
Nice upgrade
Pros: I had an older i7 NUC that I used for light duty and liked it but it was only 4 threads and PCIe gen 2, slower memory etc. This newer (but now discontinued) NUC is MUCH better. It has 4 cores and 8 threads, faster memory and PCIe Gen 4. It is much faster and stays much quieter. Only gets about half as loud under heavy loads and you can't even hear the fan during normal use such as web browsing, videos etc. Equipped with a Samsung 980 PRO it is fast (max turbo of 4.7 GHz) for such a small box. I/O and WiFi is fast also. This was a bargain for the price.
Cons: Only con I can think of is it doesn't have the latest thunderbolt version but I don't use that anyway.
Overall Review: Great little box and all the PC most people will ever need. Sort of a very fast notebook in a little box. I would recommend it for all general use, not for any heavy gaming.
Good personal finance SW
Pros: Works great for me. I keep track of my investments etc. and have been using it for years. Still the best windows based personal finance SW I have found and I have tried several others.
Cons: I dislike the SW as a service subscription model. In the past I could just buy a copy and use it for years. Now you have to renew it or buy a new copy every year.
Overall Review: If you want an easy to use personal finance SW and don't mind paying the yearly subscription fee then I recommend it.
Fast and easy ordering, quick delivery.
This seller seems high quality and I have recommended them and their products to friends.
Great power station
It has lots of power available, is well built and charges very fast on AC and fast with solar panels. I recommend it for anyone wanting emergency and/or portable power.
Good drives, slow shipping
Disks showed up well packaged without damage. Upon testing they were indeed brand new and in perfect condition. Good price for high quality server class disks. They run cool and quiet in my TrueNAS , total of 8 drives. My only complaint would be that they took a long time to arrive.
