Cons: Have to give at least 1 star.
Grinding noises on one drive as soon as it was installed.
Loud when loading/reading a disc. Purchased 2 drives, and both have issues.
Surprisingly enough, the drive that made the less noise, was the first to fail.
Overall Review: This was the first Asus product I have ever ordered. I've built quite a few custom computers, and have always tried to stay with brands and companies that I have had good luck with.
Well Asus has a huge name, so I figured I'd give it a try. Needless to say this is also the last time I purchase an Asus product. Purchased 2 of these for identical computers that I built. They were cheap, with loads of great reviews that out weighed the negative ones.
Sadly I should have listened to the negative reviews. Both drives were extremely loud from the start, but one of them made grinding noises. I tried to ignore this.
After a month of use the drive that didn't make the grinding noises, just decided to stop. It wouldn't read anything. I tried using cd's, dvd's, blank discs and software discs. No matter what I put in, I got nothing.
Requested an RMA from newegg and have already purchased new drives from a local store.
It was the price that got me on this drive, a great drive for less than 20 bucks!? well.. You get what you pay for.
Don't be a penny pincher when it comes to your computer. Spend a few extra bucks and swing for better product!
I've got a drive from a "lesser quality" company, and it has been in heavy use for 5 years now. Still works as flawless as it did the day I installed it. You'd expect more from a huge company like Asus.
Do yourself a favor and pick up the LG for 40. It's worth it to avoid the hassle of rma's and paying for return shipping.
I've always found it outrageous that you have to pay for a companies mistake. Manufacturers should be held responsible for returning bad product. It is their product, after all.
Pros: Lots of plugs. Loads of room for bigger plugs. I haven't really used the swivel feature, but its nice to have if and when you need more room or to direct your cords.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: Does what its supposed to do. Supporting 2 self built computers. Plus all the extras (monitors, speakers etc.)
Pros: Super fast. Stays cool (using aftermarket cooler)
Handles everything I've thrown at it so far. Built an entirely new rig. My old rig was running a Phenom II X4 965 BE. Its hard to tell a difference when just doing normal browsing. The Old rig was fast, so normal usage between both are similar. But once I started gaming on this rig, you can really see the difference.
Overall Review: Can't say how well the stock heatsink and fan would work. I went with an after market cooler from the start. My temps stay low even under full load. Using the zalman 9700.
Pros: Great picture, hooked up through HDMI and the 1080p is amazing! No dead pixels on arrival.
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: When I first hooked this thing up, it wouldn't go full screen with the suggested screen resolution. If you have this problem, just change the scaling on your video card. It is not an HDMI issue. When I searched this problem out online, I found tons of people saying to just stop using the HDMI and switch to DVI. Well for me that wasn't an option, so I dug a little deeper and it was a simple 30 second fix. Open your Catalyst, or Nvidia control center and raise your scaling. Done.
Pros: Very large. There are a million things you can change on this case to make it suit your needs. I removed the Drive cages and will mount the HDD on the side, this has left my case completely open for anything.
Cons: Quality control. See other thoughts.
Overall Review: I ordered 2 of these cases. I am currently working on 2 builds. The cases are amazing, I couldn't imagine needing anything bigger than this. Especially if you can take all your drive cages out, and mount on the side. Quality control... I took an egg off for this issue alone. The cases in themselves are perfect. But while installing my motherboard and DVD drive, I noticed something long and black sticking through the metal on the inside front panel, and going through one of the fans on the front. When I finally got my hands on it and pulled it out, it was one of the large fan mounting screws. I'm going to guess that while the fans were being installed, whoever did it, dropped a screw and figured it was lost. Well the Chassis of the case caught it. And I'm glad I found it. If I would have powered it up with the screw going straight through the middle of the fan, I would have a very chewed up and damaged fan. So at least in my case, there should be a bit more inspection before sending these off to customers. If you drop a screw, make 100% sure that its not lodged somewhere inside the case where it can mess things up. Ironically, the fan that had the screw stuck through it, is the fan they decided to stick the "QC Pass" sticker on. 5 Eggs for the case, 4 eggs for Thermaltakes QC department. It would be wise for everyone to fully inspect their cases, which you should do anyways. But just keep a close eye on those fans!
Pros: Very solid board. Have been running this board for 5 Years and I've never had a single issue.
Overall Review: This board is definitely worth the money. 5+ years and still running.
Pros: Great sound and bass. I can hear the footsteps of my enemy it seems like from across the map. Music also sounds good from this set. I prefer my surround sound, but in times when I need to keep it down these are great. The mic works great and I love the fact that you can remove it. I've owned these now for 4 years and they are still great. No popping, crackling or sound loss.
Overall Review: When I bought these they were 60 dollars. If you can grab them for any less than that, its a steal. These are worth the money if you need a great headset!
Pros: Keys have a good feel too them. Dont have to use much force to hit them but they feel cushioned. The wrist pad is nice add on too.
Cons: none as of yet
Overall Review: Have always used logitech keyboards (and speakers, mice and webcams) Still havent been disappointed. Would have liked the G11 but this will do the job just fine
Pros: This thing flys. Nothing I've done on here has been able to even make this cpu flinch. temps stay decently low. Paired with the Sapphire radeon HD 5850 and 4Gigs of ddr2 1066 patriot gaming ram.
Overall Review: Havent used the stock heatsink/fan so I cant say how well it works. I purchased the Zalman 9700 along with it and havent had a single problem.
Pros: Works great and pushes plenty of air. Tops out at 3200 RPM on high. Quiet enough. It is the loudest fan I have when I turn it up all the way, but not loud enough to annoy me.
Cons: Could go without all the extra wire, but I knew that before hand so no eggs taken off.
Overall Review: I'd purchase another to replace the other 80mm fan on my case but will be upgrading to the antec twelve hundred. If you have the room and need the extra airflow I would highly recommend this fan
Pros: Looks nice. easy install. Few degree drop at first..
Cons: 3 days after having it installed the fans started making loud grinding noises. My temps actually jumped 2 degrees celcius higher than they were before putting this cooler in. The noises the fans make come and go.
Overall Review: If you get a good unit I'm sure its nice. But the only thing its doing for me is giving me more LED's, which I have plenty of. Pulling this thing out before next weeks recycle pick up
Pros: Pushes enough air. Not loud at all. Bought 2 of these for my raidmax smilidon.
Overall Review: Cant hear them at all over my 80mm's, hdd cooler, or zalman 9700. Buying 5 more for my antec twelve hundred! Great fan. Would definitely recommend.
Pros: Cant slow this thing down. Open as many programs as you want and it keeps flyin. Great price for performance. Not using stock heatsink (zalman 9700) Stays cool with fan speeds on low.
Overall Review: This was my first custom build. Coming from a single core celeron D 3.06GHz so the jump was insanely huge. Extremely happy with this cpu.
Pros: Great performance with every game I've thrown at it. quiet enough. Little long but fits perfect into the Raidmax Smilodon mid size tower. Stays really cool ( I have a pci slot cooler right below it)
Cons: Price, but then you get what you pay for and this card is worth it.
Overall Review: Running this with the AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE. If you have the money to spend this is definitely what you want to get. CoD4 Max settings with 2X AA running 200 fps steady. Cant hear it over my 120mm fans.
Pros: Solid casing. Fans feel well made. Blue LED's are the perfect brightness for me. Price! Bought 2 of these to replace the 120mm fans that came with my case. They move LOTS of air.
Cons: none at this time
Overall Review: Only had them a few days but they work how they should so far. They move twice as much air than the fans that came with my case (Raidmax Smilodon) They arent the quietest fan, but they arent any louder than my CPU cooler. So no problem for me.
Pros: The air that comes off of this thing is extremely cool. Even on low this thing kicks air around better than any other fan in my case. Pretty quiet unless you have it running full speed. Still not too loud though. Fan speed controller works great..mostly
Cons: The fan speed controller plug (the 3 pin that plugs to the motherboard) is very sensitive, the slightest movement causes the unit to turn off. I tried it without the fan controller, and no amount of movement affects it. So its just the speed controller plug.
Overall Review: The unit runs fine without the fan controller, but without it, it constantly runs on highest speed. The controller itself works fine, just gotta make sure nothing moves the plug even the slightest. Would still recommend this product, just make sure your wires/plugs work properly.
Pros: the black finish is nice. Plenty of cords for everything you will need.
Cons: Loads of wires, if you have a mid size tower may take some well thought out cable management. Not really a con so no eggs taken.
Overall Review: Popped it in and powered up right away. Great power supply for the cost. I am taking an egg for shipping. Ordered this and was charged to my card on the 2nd of December and just got it in the mail today Dec. 8th.
Pros: Work great. Got them for the amd build I am currently working on. Popped them into my step dads computer and they booted up no problem. Ran a few games and has ran fine with everything.
Cons: none, its great ram
Overall Review: Looks good on my motherboard. Nice heatspreaders. Will definitely buy a second set soon
Pros: Looks nice, full side panel. Both side panels are completely removable. HDD bay swivels which is really nice. Motherboard was a quick and simple install with the removable mobo tray.
Cons: All fans arent LED? Only thing wrong with this case, one of the PCIe/AGP/PCI card stabilizers doesnt click into spot. just moves around on its own. Not gonna take an egg for something so minor though.
Overall Review: All in all its a good case, specially for first time builders. This is my first build, only thing I have put in it is my Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P. (Still waiting on other parts) Fit perfectly and the I/O panel popped right in with no problems. Will edit my review once its powered up completely. Could have been bigger, but this is perfect for the build I am working on.
Pros: Not DoA. Looks pretty nice.
Cons: Low frames even on older fps games at all low settings. Got an old PCI Nvidia 5200 that runs better than this. $100.00 dollars wasted, should have spent a little more and gone with an AGP and different manufacturer.
Overall Review: PCI interface isnt the greatest. But the pc I'm running on is PCI only. Working on a new build, but thought i would try to give this one a little jump while waiting for parts/money.
5200 I was running kicked out 70 frames in SoF2, this 9500 struggles to hit 40. 50 if I'm lucky. If you're looking for a frame boost in games, look elsewhere. First sparkle product I've ever purchased, needless to say, it will be my last.
