Pros: Comes with Windows 7 installed and works well out of the box.
Cons: Does not include an optical drive and does not state "no optical drive", but includes optical media.
Overall Review: I think it is completely ridiculous to sell a device that includes optical media and does not include any way to use it. This was very misleading to me, which left me quite surprised when I went to insert a CD and there was no drive. Even the details on this don't indicate there's no optical drive included. According to HP there's only a chance some of this model actually have the connector to install an optical drive so I just purchased an external drive for about $30 more. I feel cheated...
Pros: I bought this for my kid's old Xbox 360 with the 20 Gig drive in it. I formatted it on my new Xbox 360 Slim 250 Gig and it meets the Xbox specifications and did not pop up the warning like some other USB drives. This actually has more space than the onboard drive in the old Xbox and is a lot cheaper than trying to upgrade the hard drive.
Overall Review: Great upgrade for the older Xbox 360 units with limited storage or the newer Xbox 360 Slim 4 Gig units with no hard disk drive installed. Highly recommended!
Pros: Pretty device and very functional when it works.
Cons: After unit was 100% charged I turned it off. 7 days later I tried to turn it on and it won't turn on. After 30 or 40 times of trying it finally came up to a black screen with a gray battery containing a white circle. This appears to be a known issue with this device, but since it has been more than 30 days I cannot return it to Newegg so I am at the mercy of Samsung support. Oh yea, they are requiring me to pay for return shipping for a known manufacturer issue.
Overall Review: If I had it to do over again I would have done more research and bypassed this device. I recommend you read about Samsung issues before you take a chance. If you get a dud like I did you'll be stuck with paying to ship it back and can only hope they actually fix it on the first try. Many other forums have users reporting the battery drain issue was not resolved on the first attempt so they had to send it back again. This should be a class action lawsuit!
Cons: Does not work with my new iPhone 5S. Will not charge phone, will not connect to PC, and phone reports it is not certified.
Overall Review: Waste of money, do not purchase!
Pros: A great way to purchase things on Xbox Live without giving Microsoft your credit card information or when you have kids that don't have credit cards. I ordered this and had the code within 15 minutes.
Overall Review: It is easy and it works.
Pros: Seems like a great product if it works.
Cons: The right thumb stick doesn't center properly on the one I received. If you don't flick the joystick when you stop it will keep slowly drifting to the right. After playing a couple of times over two days it got annoying enough I had to request an RMA.
Overall Review: It sucks having to pay shipping to send defective products back. So much for the sale price savings... :(
Pros: Compact design and price point that cannot be beat. Installed a new WD 320 Gig drive in only a few minutes and setup was a breeze.
Overall Review: Yes, the unit comes with the appropriate screws! Small clear plastic zip lock bag with 3 very tiny screws inside. Yep, good to go! Oh yea, the not so free Egg Saver shipping took forever. UPS Mail Innovations brought it to the local USPS hub where it took them an additional 3 days to deliver. The WD hard drive with free shipping I ordered at the same time arrived at my door via UPS the same day this was turned over to the Post Office, so I had to wait the extra 3 days to put them together.
Pros: Completely proficient drive that does everything it says it is supposed to.
Overall Review: Newegg did an awsome job packing this! You could have dropped it from a tall building and not damaged the drive! Newegg is the BEST!!!
Pros: This is a great, fast, drive that runs cool and quiet. I'm using it to replace a stock Fujitsu 60 Gig drive in a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. Someday I may even finish this project if I can get Dell to send the correct re-install media.
Cons: The Acroins WD edition software is awful. I downloaded and read the entire manual before deciding to do this upgrade. There was no mention of the inability to colone non-standard partitions on certain vendor laptops. Additionally, I was unable to even install this software to backup the original drive without a WD hard drive being in or on the system. That makes it a real pain to upgrade your system with a new WD hard drive. Anyway, if you have a laptop that has Dell MediaDirect on it, do not attempt to clone that drive to a new drive with this software. You will have to have the MediaDirect re-install disk on hand, create the partitions on the new drive, re-install the OS, re-install MediaDirect, and then restore the image of just the OS and data from the old drive.
Overall Review: I love WD hard drives, but this Acronis software leaves a lot to be desired. I'm also mad at Dell because their non-standard design for MediaDirect has made this whole project painful. And, when I requested the media to re-install MediaDirect they sent the wrong disk and after an hour of work setting up partitions and installing the OS, the MediaDirect install fails stating, "Installation stopped due to incorrect system ID. Please check your system and try again." If you plan on using the Acronis True Image WD edition software, make sure you have a WD drive installed somewhere as you cannot even install the software unless there's a "recognized" WD drive on or in the system. Overall, the drive gets 5 eggs because it is a great drive and works very well. The other stuff has to do with Acronis' software and how they broke it so WD could give it away with their drives.
Pros: I bought this to replace a stock 10 Gig drive in an old Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. The laptop boots much faster now and programs are snappy compared to the sluggishness of the old hard drive. Overall, this was a very good upgrade and breathed new life into an ancient machine.
Cons: The free Acronis True Image WD Edition boot CD I created did not see this drive as a WD drive when it was installed in the laptop even though it was recognized by the BIOS. I had to use my external USB enclosure with a WD SATA drive installed to get the Acronis software to let me backup the original drive. I backed it up via FTP because the USB on this old laptop is the 1.1 version and it was going to take 2 hours to back up the old 10 Gig drive via USB. I used FileZilla server (free) as the FTP destination and created the image in less than 30 minutes. I didn't think I would need the USB drive anymore once the image had been created and the new WD drive was installed in the laptop, but I was wrong. I had to plug the USB cable back into the laptop to get beyond the screen where Acronis was searching for a WD drive even with the new WD drive installed. Then, without doing anything to the laptop, I was able to restore the image to the new hard drive via FTP, so I know it was there.
Overall Review: If you plan on using the Acronis True Image WD edition software, make sure you have a WD drive installed somewhere as you cannot even install the software unless there's a "recognized" WD drive on or in the system. Also, the price is a bit high on these drives considering their size, but at least they are still making this technology. Overall, the drive gets 5 eggs because it is a great drive and works very well. The other stuff has to do with Acronis' software and how they broke it so WD could give it away with their drives.
Pros: Pretty fast stock speed and has Virtualization Technology built in! I replaced an E2160 1.8 GHz processor I had overclocked to 3 GHz because I wanted to play with XenServer and ESXi. The PC was running Windows 7 RC since I couldn't install either virtualization product without the CPU support. This processor actually improved the Windows Experience score for both Processor and Memory by .1, which isn't bad considering it was clocked 200 MHz slower than the processor it replaced!
Cons: Included heatsink still a pain in the rear. Intel really needs to come up with a new design!
Overall Review: If you need a good, reasonably priced, processor that can do virtualization this is it! Just be sure and check your motherboard specs to make sure it can handle this processor as it has a .5 multiplier requirement and a few other tweaks you'll need an updated BIOS to support. I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR and it required a BIOS upgrade, which I performed before I ordered the CPU. When the CPU arrived I just dropped it in, cussed at the heatsink for about 10 minutes, and I was up and running in no time.
Pros: Small, great sounding, and easy to use. I love this MP3 player! It didn't take long to set up Windows Media Player to sync with this device and soon I had 13 of my favorite CDs on it and was listening to some good tunes. The really cool thing is that I still have more than 6 Gigs free! :)
Cons: The included ear buds hurt my ears, but I didn't really expect them to include top of the line headphones with such a wonderful and well priced MP3 player. Therefore they don't lose any eggs for this very minor con.
Overall Review: This is my very first MP3 player and I don't think I could be any happier. Heck, if I do get tired of listening to my music I can always switch this one over to FM and listen to the radio. Local FM stations come in really good and sound great too!
Pros: These speakers sound great and are easy to work with. I even called Energy and verified that Newegg is an authorized reseller, so even at this great price you get the full warranty!
Overall Review: I bought these to go with my original set of Energy Take Classic 5.1 speaker set so I could have 7.1 with like speakers. I wish Energy would make a 2 pack so you didn't have to by an extra 5 pack just to get 7.1 sound. It was worth it though! :)
System: Samsung LN46A650, Yamaha RX-V863BL, PS3, Energy Take Classic 5.1 + 2 for 7.1, looks & sounds awesome in a 13' x 10' room.
Pros: It is a UPS that does what it is supposed to do, provide protection from spikes and sags as well as power outages. Unlike the big brand, this one is quiet and not so expensive.
Cons: The bright blue light on the power switch is a little much in a dark room, but I just turned it sideways and put it behind the TV stand so it isn't so bad.
Overall Review: I'm using this on an entertainment center to protect my LCD TV, Xbox 360, PS3, and Yamaha receiver. So far I am very happy with it. So much in fact that I just ordered two of the CP550SL units to protect some PC equipment.
Pros: Ordered 4 of these to put in two SANS DIGITAL MS2UTN+B devices (I also purchased from Newegg) and everything went perfectly. It takes 10 hours to build the array and these drives ran cool and quiet the whole time!
Cons: As many before me have stated, these probably need a little more protection in shipping. I would have felt a lot better if Newegg shipping would have put just 1 more layer of bubble-wrap around these. I could feel one whole side of the drive on one of them where the bubbles had popped.
Overall Review: Newegg should delete reviews that; A). Complain about OEM drives not coming with hardware and B). Wonder why their 1 TB drive doesn't show up that big in Windows. It would save me the trouble of skipping over those rubbish reviews and make the Egg ratings a lot more accurate.
Pros: (I bought two of the silver edition from Newegg, but it has been discontinued so I'll write my review here) The unit is small and well designed so that it doesn’t take up more space than necessary. I love the fact that it has on-board power, NO power brick! :) Installing drives was easy (2 x WD10EADS 1TB). Before power up I set the selector switch to SAFE. Once powered on I pressed the reset button and somewhere between 30 seconds and a minute later the rebuild process started and ran for just under 10 hours.
Cons: The documentation (as others have mentioned) is a bit scarce, but I followed the recommendation of george (see: Solid Product) and things went very well. In my case the selector switch was pre-set to position "1" (JBOD). You would think it would ship with the switch in the same position every time, but not these devices. I ordered two and when I checked the second one was set for "0" (BIG).
Overall Review: Do yourself a favor, download the 57XX SteelVine Manager Tool and install it, then read the manual through chapter 5 before you do anything. It will give you a window into what this device is doing so you don’t have to guess what the flashing lights mean. It also gives you a log file so you can read what’s been happening with the drive. Note: The PSU fan will most likely show up as bad, but it is not. You will need to edit the UserConfig.xml file and change the "PwSupFanSpeedLo" setting from the default to "095". Read the help file chapter 13 for more information (in SteelVine Manager press CTRL+H for the manual).
Pros: Shipped quickly, arrived fast, & packed well. These drives are thin, quiet, and run a lot cooler than many drives I've had in the past.
Overall Review: Wow, I've read a lot of reviews stating these drives aren't packed well and/or arrive DOA. I ordered two and they arrived in their static shielding bags, double wrapped in bubble wrap, and in a box full of the foam peanuts. Maybe all of that feedback about packing paid off!!! On arrival I placed them in my old PC and ran a long test with SeaTools for Windows. The rest of my parts for the new build haven't arrived yet so I thought it better test these out in case there were any issues. They both tested perfectly and will probably have a long and healthy life in my new system. Why you might ask, because I use an ESD strap when working on PCs! If you don't know what an ESD strap is you really have no business working inside of a computer. It is not a wonder prices stay so high. I'm willing to bet that more than 50% of the DOAs and the majority of the drives that fail within three months are because they were zapped. For less than the cost of shipping for one RMA you can get a go
Pros: I just installed the PSU today and I am already impressed. It really does what it says in that it saves you money on the electric bill, even when your PC is off! I used the P3 Kill-A-Watt meter I purchased here at Newegg and tested the system with the stock PSU in it. Just plugged in with the PC off it was using 5 watts. When I powered up the PC and just left it logged in at the desktop it was using 138 watts. The final test was to fire up Doom 3, load a saved game, and let it just sit there while I watched the meter. This time it was using 196 watts and the front panel temp gauge was reading a CPU temp of 103 degrees F. I shut the system down and installed the new PSU and performed the same tests with the following numbers (from the same order as above): 2 watts, 124 watts, 179 watts and 107 degrees F. As you can see the temp went up a little, but power consumption went down right around 10% at idle and 8.5% when gaming.
Cons: A little high in the price department, but I guess you get what you pay for.
Overall Review: This item came with a rebate when I purchased it. I'm hoping these guys do better at processing my rebate than most other companies I've dealt with. If not you will find out about it here...
Pros: It worked out of the box and provides power to my PC.
Cons: It is advertised as quiet, but is actually louder than the original (OEM) PSU that came in my cheap case.
Overall Review: MIR requires you to send a self addressed stamped envelope to get your rebate... How cheap is that???
Pros: Sweet RAM and perfect timings! I had a little trouble getting the BIOS on my older MB to like it at the advertised timings, but OCZ Tech Support was awesome and made my day. Now I'm running at 2-3-2-5 as advertised.
Cons: Rebate form advertised 10 to 12 weeks to process. Ultimately took 17 weeks (and a lot of complaining) to receive my rebate!
Overall Review: We should all boycott rebates until they go away! If not for the rebate company this item would have received 5 eggs!!!
Pros: Fast & Small! I spent the hoildays converting all of the home movies to DVD and this was a lifesaver! I used 2 PCs to encode the video after I recorded it and it was taking about 45 minutes to copy a video across the network on the old 100Mbps system. This baby brought it down under 5 minutes!
Cons: It took 12 weeks to get a rebate they said I would receive within 8 weeks of mailing the paperwork. When I called they tried to change their story and claim it would take 8 weeks from the time they received my rebate paperwork. Then the guy told me when they received my paperwork and it had already been 8 weeks! He did a 180 and changed his story, but I further explained that their rebate form stated clearly that I was to give them 5 weeks from when they received it!
Overall Review: A company should understand that their rebate policy is as important as their customer service & tech support. They got a bad grade on this one!
Pros: Great, fast, cool, & huge!
Cons: Took 12 weeks and a lot of complaining to get the advertised rebate! ACBRebate service is terrible.
Overall Review: 1. My WD3200JB sits underneath 2 Western Digital Raptors and runs pretty cool with stock cooling.
2. I only use WD drives, but that may have to change unless they get their rebate program under control!
Pros: Great card, installed easily and works fast!
Cons: The advertised rebate still hasn't been processed and I bought this card last November! They say they received my paperwork and it was all good, but still no rebate.
Overall Review: If Linksys offeres you a rebate, don't use that as a buying point as you might never receive it even if you do everything perfectly!
Pros: Awesome drive with loads of space. I needed that for converting all of the old VHS home movies to DVD.
Cons: Mailed my rebate package to WD on December 5th, 2005 and still no rebate after more than 11 weeks! :-( Rebates are a part of a company's reputation too and I'll probably be changing brands after this.
Pros: This thing works great right out of the box. I ordered 2 Gig NICs to go with it and now have 4 PCs on my home network running at Gig speeds! The speed is Amazing! It fits in well to as I just plugged a cable between this and my Firewall/Router and the auto-sense feature had them talking instantly. Also, this thing is really small and portable for LAN Parties and such!!! :o)
