Two out of Three Drives were bad10/16/2020 12:51:47 PM

Pros: No Pros

Cons: This was my first purchase of 3 Seagate Drives. I had planned on making two of them a RAID I with a dedicated hot spare for the third in a SuperMicro machine. One drive was bad right off, a second drive lasted less than 24 hours. I have the third drive installed as a non-raid drive while waiting on the replacement drives.

Overall Review: I would not recommend this product as being reliable.

Excellent Device8/28/2020 12:52:56 PM

Pros: I purchased this bundled Raspberry Pi 4 because the case included a fan. I have the unit in production and the fan has kept the temperatures in a satisfactory range : pi@IrFx:~ $ sens CPU temp=36.0 'C 96.8 'F GPU temp=35.0'C temp=35.0'C My objective with this unit was to use hylaFAX+ connected to three usb modem/faxes, and it appears to be working well except for one problem.

Cons: Unfortunately, this system performs some unintended shutdowns. This system is set up to run 24/7 as a receive and send fax device for our organization, and was attached to a ups. After some reading, it appears that the drain of power from the modems via the usb ports is apparently more than the 3amp power supply can manage. I have ordered a 3.5 amp power supply to see if this fixes the problem.

Overall Review: Excellent, except the power supply does not service 3 usb modems satisfactorily. The addition of the 3.5 amp power supply solved my problems with this unit. It is well worth the money. If you do not need to power three usb modems you probably do not need the additional power supply

Great Case12/26/2018 7:12:51 PM

Pros: This has been a great case, and had everything I needed for a laboratory hypervisor that I built. Good air flow, and plenty of room for what I needed. I eventually put in a water cooler that made things a little tight, but it worked.

Cons: The only con I can see is that the panel thumb screws that are used to hold the side panels are a little small and difficult to screw back in with your thumb and forefinger. I would advise that these be a little larger on the next revision.

Temperatures OK, but mounting had to be improvised12/2/2018 10:04:13 AM

Pros: Once I was able to get this installed, it did the job in reducing temperatures related to high loads of 130 to 140 degrees F to 90 degrees F.

Cons: There was no way to mount the unit with the back plate that was supplied for an 1151 I7 socket for an ASUS motherboard. I was able to improvise by placing piece of plastic from the end of a 'Cable Tie' which pulled the backplate support away from the board about 4mm. I am also using a Linux Centos 7.5 system, and have not figured out how to access the coler via the usb 2.0 connection. There was no information in the manual that described how to do this.

Not Impressed12/1/2018 9:49:11 AM

Pros: Very Clean design; looks good

Cons: The notice on the NewEgg website stipulated that it worked for linux; so far I have only been able to get it to turn on. The software they have on their website is downloadable, but so far I have been unable to us any of it to access the pad. I am running Centos 7.5 that is fully updated.

Overall Review: I contacted their support team, but I have not received a reply after three days

Easy to Use12/1/2018 9:32:10 AM

Pros: This device was easy to use; plugged it in and it worked. Nice clean design. No buttons or switches. No need to set anything up; this is a plug and play for sure.

Cons: I almost sent the product back at first. There was some popping and buzzing with the transmission from my i-phone to the car radio. This problem was ameliorated but turning up the volue on my i-phone as well as the car radio, but be aware that when you unplugg everytrhing the radio on the c ar will take over with a volume that is louder than needed.

Overall Review: I would recommend the product but it would be nice if they were able to boost the volume so that the i-phone and the car radio did not have to be turned up to max voluem.

So far Not good8/6/2018 12:40:14 PM

Pros: No pros yet, because I can not get it to work

Cons: There were no installation instructions and no CD's that came with the units; I ordered two of them. So far these cards are headed to be returned unless I can find some documentation to install them in an ASUS PRIME H270-PLUS/CSM LGA 1151 Intel H270 motherboard. I tried to contact the telephone number of the vendor, but there was no one to answer the phone. I left a message on their answering device.

Smaller than I expected, but great resolution and picture quality11/12/2017 6:04:27 PM

Pros: I like the high def quality

Cons: There is no manual for this piece of equipment. It is primarily set to be used on a Windows machine, but I was able to make it work on a Centos 7.4 machine with a development kernel from elrepo "yum --enablerepo=elrepo-kernel install kernel-ml". However, the good software for this camera is related to microsoft, and not linux.

Overall Review: If you purchase this for linux you will have to tinker with things to make it work

Surprisingly good sound for 24 hours5/20/2017 1:50:04 PM

Pros: I was surprised by the quality of sound that this little speaker generated.

Cons: Unfortunately, I was only able to use it the first day I plugged it in. The second day I could get it to connect to the blue tooth on my computer without difficulty, but the sound was scratchy and almost inaudible. I tried several things to fix it, but it has remained broken.

*1:When a SATA mode M.2 device is installed, the M.2 Socket shares bandwidth with the SATA6G_1 port.3/18/2017 5:30:36 PM

Pros: The board performed well in every way except that the first SATA port was unusable with the M-2 socket populated with a Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2

Cons: I was really disappointed that SATA port 1 would not work; I could not even get the BIOS to recognize the presence of a SSD drive

Overall Review: The spec sheets should be revised to include the above caveat. In my experience the problem is more than sharing bandwidth. I could not get SATA port 1 to work at all.

Fantastic3/14/2017 6:11:34 PM

Pros: This is a sweet looking case; easy to use, and I had no problems putting things together. The usb ports on the front panel are designated as 2.0 in the spec sheet, however they are actually 3.0 ports and function as 3.0 ports.

Cons: I really have no cons... this is a great case. The only thing I am concerned about is that in other reviews the power supply is questionable. So far I have had no problems, but if you populate the case with a lot of toys you may want a more stout power supply

Overall Review: I would recommend this case to anyone that wants their computer to not only look good but also perform well.

Good Product, but there are some problems2/18/2017 1:34:15 PM

Pros: I set up a mirrored raid with mdadm using a Centos 7.3 os, and the unit worked very well

Cons: The only problem I have it is related to the way Centos assigns the device labels at boot time without the use of keyboard and mouse. I created the raid with the use of a terminal as well as a keyboard and mouse. Everything worked fine until I removed the keyboard, terminal and mouse. When Centos was rebooted the assignment of the two drives changed form /dev/sdc and /dev/sdd to /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. This caused the mounting of the raid /dev/md0 to fail which prevented booting. I finally gave up and attached a keyboard and mouse so that the booting would work. The other remaining problem is that now a software reboot 'shutdown now -r' will also not work, because the drive device labels change back to /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. The only way to boot this unit now is to turn it off at the power supply level and then turn it back on before booting is done. I was hopeful that this could be remedied, but so far the remedy has escaped me. This problem really makes the Orico unuseable for me. I have purchased a ORICO 9558RU3-BK to see if I can get a raid working with the hardware of the unit instead of mdadm of linux.

Overall Review: I would recommend this unit only if you do not need a software raid with Centos 7.3
