First Board DOA - Replacement Meets Expectations
Pros: -Beefier VRM compared to the lower/entry level boards (e.g. Prime); helps stabilize overclocks -Solid build quality -Aesthetically pleasing, lots of RGB customization options. -Integrated I/O shield is a great touch - looks fantastic. -Easy to reach CLEAR CMOS and RESET buttons located on the outside of the case (I/O shield). -Bios is great. Easy to navigate, very easy to update, awesome profiles saving feature.
Cons: -Asus board audio pop in Windows 10. This has been an ongoing issue with Asus Z370 boards for months with no fix yet. There is a large thread on the ROG forums with more information on this issue. The current workaround is disabling fast boot. -USB 3.1 port is located in a terrible spot. I had a tough time routing my case's USB 3.1 cable to the port because I had to bend it back on itself to connect it to the board. My Prime Z370-A board had it located in a much more convenient position (on the right hand side of the board, as opposed to the very bottom/middle).
Overall Review: My first board was DOA and took my CPU with it (8700k died instantly on POST). Newegg RMA took care of the board, but I'm out of luck on my CPU. Don't take your CPU warranties for granted, folks.
Bright, works great with Aura
Pros: High quality light strip. Very easy to install as it's magnetic and sticks to the case interior easily. Connecting it to my Asus board and accessing it with Aura was a breeze. Bright and vibrant colors
Cons: None. Reasonably priced for the quality of the strip.
Binned 8700k on Sale
Pros: Got this on sale for $20 more than the 8700k MSRP. I'm very pleased with this processor, as the volt frequency curve is substatially better than my late 8700k. I'm currently running 1.235v 5.0ghz and haven't had to delid because temps are well within reason. My 8700k wouldn't even do 5.0 ghz at 1.4v. Worth the extra $20 if you can get it on sale!
Cons: None - Love it!
Overall Review: This is a "special" 8700k with a better volt/frequnecy curve. If you aren't interested in overclocking, your money's best spent on a regular 8700k.
8700k nice and cool, easy to install
Pros: -performs well enough for its price -easy to install -corsair link software is a neat feature, lets you change rgb lighting on pump
Cons: -loud as hell. offers a quiet mode setting, but even still, it sounds like an apache's flying through my living room
Overall Review: Invest in quieter fans than the ones included if you want to cut down on the noise.
