Good switch - Made it into a KVMP++ with HUB!!

IOGEAR GCS72U 2-Port USB Cable KVM Switch with Audio
IOGEAR GCS72U 2-Port USB Cable KVM Switch with Audio

Pros: I have 2 laptops and wanted to run on 1 keyboard, mouse, video (monitor), printer. So read an earlier review that someone used a HUB to connect 1 side of switch to computer this allowed for additional openings for added components. Well I purchased (Item#: N82E16817182174) and connected this switch to the HUB on one computer (only the USB's)(see below). Now I am running my KMV AND Printer AND camera (down load pictures for work) AND have an empty slot for a phone or whatever!!!! Both computers (DELL Laptop & ASUS Notebook) see ALL the components when I press the little button. **NOTE** I do have my monitor connected SEPERATELY via HDMI from Notebook and VGI from Laptop as there are 4 inputs on monitor. This way I am running better picture quality instead of the SERIAL connections provided. IMO this is the way to go..use the switch for the USB features. I simply toggle my monitor back and forth after pressing the button.

Cons: Kind of bulky and the USB cords are NOT long enough if you need to split the USB connection on both sides of a laptop/notebook. I have my Laptop on a Dock and there is no issues. My Notebook is on a stand with fans/USB HUB next to fans (center of stand). If it wasnt for the hub in the stand, I would have had to gotten USB extensions. If you are running 2 desktops and/or a Dock for laptop...you will have NO issues. I have the rats nest of wires stuffed behind my desk (out of site..out of mind..lol). For these 2 reasons, I deducted 1egg.

Overall Review: You hear multiple alarms (USB dings you hear upon connection) each time you press the switch button. Some people complain about this...I personally don't mind and have gotten use to it...plus the dings notify me that I did indeed press the switch button. I believe you can change your settings in your OS to silence the alarms if you need...so not really a con. Overall this is a very good switch for my application and was able to make this KMV into a KMVP++ with a HUB!!!!!

Dell 780 Refurb

DELL Desktop Computer 780 Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Intel GMA 4500 Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
DELL Desktop Computer 780 Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Intel GMA 4500 Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Pros: First run with a Refurb PC. Machine inside and out looked virtually brand new!! Very clean install of Windows 7 Pro and virtually NO bloatware!! Runs quiet! Comes with Keyboard and mouse. Plenty of USB 2.0 slots. You CANNOT beat the price for what you get!!!

Cons: Monitor connection is limited with VGA only.

Overall Review: This is my first experience with a refurb PC. Purchased this for my son as his 1st computer (7 1/2 yr old). Came with a trial Anti Virus, winzip, Word Perfect suite...so it is almost ready to use of of box once mouse, keyboard, monitor is connected. The case included the original Manufacture UPC, Original Windows key and Refurb Windows key so you can find parts much easier if needed. The windows install was very clean, activated right away and only had to download the more recent updates (mine was set up in 04/2015 - I purchased black Friday weekend). It is also refreshing that it was not bogged down with a bunch of bloatware...maybe it due to windows 7 pro install vs the home version or the refurb company purposely left it clean. Either way I was very pleased to not have to spend hours uninstalling bloat. I also purchased this ( 2 x D-Link DWA-162 USB 2.0 Wireless N900 Dual Band USB Adapter) for connection to my WIFI and it worked great! I may look into purchasing a midgrade vid card if the graphics look sub-par due to VGA connection. **12/07/2019** - UPDATE...the computer is still running strong with no known issues!! My son (now 11 1/12) uses it every day for his school work and general research. He is not into gaming, so I can't give any feedback on that but I didn't buy this for gaming. I was so please with a refurb lasting 4 years now that I decided to give another one a go for my business (different dealer and a laptop instead of PC). Cross fingers.

Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower - Refurb

Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower - Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz, 8GB Ram, 1 TB Hard Drive, DVDRW, Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower - Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz, 8GB Ram, 1 TB Hard Drive, DVDRW, Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit

Pros: First run with a Refurb PC (also purchased a - DELL Desktop Computer 780 Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00 GHz) 8 GB DDR3 1 TB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit - Refurb). Machine inside and out looked virtually brand new!! Very clean install of Windows 7 Pro and virtually NO bloatware!! Runs quiet! Plenty of USB 2.0 slots. Room to expand HD, PCI slots. Super stable Windows 7 pro! You CANNOT beat the price for what you get!!!

Cons: NO USB 3.0, limited to VGA for monitor connection.

Overall Review: Was pleasantly surprised how 'new' looking the machine is...both inside and out. Did not come with instructions except from Refurb manufacture. Window 7 Pro was already installed and ready for setup out of the box! Easy Windows Authorization. Has original Manuf UPC, original Key, and refurb Key for easy parts tracking/updating/replacing if needed. Mine was set up more recently than my other Refurb PC I purchased (see above)...setup 10/2015 and I purchased Black Friday weekend so the updates went much quicker on this PC. It is also refreshing to not have a ton of bloatware...especially you see with the windows 7 home editions. I also purchased a new monitor (ASUS VN289H Black 28" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Ultra-Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor ,300 cd/m2 ,ASCR 80000000:1 (3000:1) Built-in Speakers, Tilt Adjustable). I will more than likely install a Vid card that has HDMI as the larger screen doesn't look crisp with a VGA cable. There is plenty of room to expand HD space (possibly a SSD) and a few PCI slots avail. The power supply is only 450w so I will most likely purchase a midgrade Vid card that does not require a lot of power. Overall this seems like a great purchase...especially for the rock bottom price! Will definitely look into refurbs in the future...especially this company. Ill report back in 6 months or so give an update

Great Adapter!! Very fast! Super solution for connection to your WIFI!!

D-Link DWA-162 Wireless N900 Dual Band USB Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 450Mbps (2.4GHz) or 450Mbps (5GHz) Wireless Data Rates

Pros: I read the reviews and decided to give this Adapter a go. I needed one for my son's new 'refurb' computer (purchased here on NewEgg) that I got him for school as his homework desk area has no Ethernet. The refurb computer didn't have the micro-dvd capability so I DL the driver from the site (simple google search on the driver name in the manual). It installed in seconds and connected right away once passwords set! It seemed to be on par or better that a LAN connection! And once installed its simply plug and play! I am glad I got 2 so I can connect my notebook in a room with no LAN connection or even on the go where WIFI is avail. Very happy so far!

Cons: The USB cord is a bit short (maybe 18-24") which makes limited choices to place once connected....I simply placed on the top of the CPU case. Would have been nicer if was another 1' longer or so....but still not enough to drop an egg.

Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this as a solid adapter to your WIFI.

works great - can use HUB with KVM(P) switch!!

Rosewill RHB-320 - 7-Port USB 2.0 / 1.1 Hub with Power Adapter
Rosewill RHB-320 - 7-Port USB 2.0 / 1.1 Hub with Power Adapter

Pros: Needed a new USB hub. I have 4 ports in use and so far works like a champ! I think it frees up power resources if you plug it in with Power Adapter...I have mine plugged into a batt back-up so no loss of periferals during power outages. This works great if you need a HUB to run a KMVP on a switch!!!! In fact I have my KMV switch and I ran into this HUB and the HUB to one computer so I can run KMVP and 2 open ports for camera..phone..whatever and both computers recognize ALL components connected to this HUB!!!

Cons: None so far!!

Nice Notebook by ASUS

ASUS Laptop B43 Series Intel Core i5-2520M 4GB Memory 500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6470M 14.0" Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit B43S-XH51
ASUS Laptop B43 Series Intel Core i5-2520M 4GB Memory 500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6470M 14.0" Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit B43S-XH51

Pros: I was in need for a back up laptop for my work and also for mobilty. I also was not ready to move to a Windows 8 yet. I wasn't happy with the reviews with the notebooks that have Windows 7 Home Premium (lots of bloatware)...and the reviews for W-7 Pro were pretty good (clean installs with very little bloatware). I also did not want to spend too much money at same time get best bang for buck. That led me to this Notebook by ASUS. I was on sale for 28% off list price!! I wanted to get to use the full 8GB of RAM that W-7 Pro would allow, but none came with it..only 4-6GB. So I ordered 8GB (Item #: N82E16820139482) to swap out with the stock 4GB of RAM....TOP NOTCH!! The price of the additional RAM was still way below competing Notebooks. I also got a Item#: N82E16834988080 for space conservation...and fans keep it very cool. The Notebook booted up with no issues. I took a few hours to completed all the updates and restarts (multi tasking while working). No issues at all. Very fast. Programs load quickly and with the 8GB of RAM a reboot takes 1/3 the time compared to stock 4GB. I don't plan on using this for gaming..but I do dabble with PS CS5 and the video card works very nice for that too! The faster hard drive speed (7200rpm) also is very nice when moving large files and booting up programs. It comes with several encryption programs (business use) which I have not used yet so I have no review on it...though it seems pretty good. I will report back once I get to see what this things got and can play around with some of the sofware (when I can find a minute or 2 away from work).

Cons: The 4GB of RAM limits what this computer can do so I recommend bumping up to 8GB (max for this notebook)...especially since RAM is rediculously cheap now a days. Turn OFF the ASUS auto updates and change to NOTIFY you only....it was getting annoying having the computer auto reboot what seems like everyday. This way you can review the updates and if deemed applicable you can download when YOU are ready to...not in the middle of useage and the computer auto-reboots.

Overall Review: I have it set up plugged into a keyboard, mouse, and monitor so I have not messed with the pad nor connected to internet wirelessly. Will get back on that. Over all it is a SOLID notebook and for this discounted price is a very good choice for those looking for a quality price point of 1K'ish for the price of 1/3 less...for this reason I go from a 4egg to 5egg!!
