Pros: (Follow-up after updates and hardware upgrades). Very easy to update Bios and install Raid drives. Fairly flexible bios will let you get away with noob like mistakes without having to mess with the cmos. On board sound is excellent. On board ethernet gives me 1meg+ downloads.
Cons: Not a fault of the board, but if you are running 3 cards in SLI, you need a fan that sounds like a hair drier on high to cool them and a psu at or above 1200watts. I wished the pci slots were located closer to the cpu to make room for one more pci or more room at the bottom for other cables. Wished Asus spent more time with the bios running top of the line hardware before shipping it to the Egg. Other con- People that don't read the manual or even look at the specs before building their system. These are the same people that say they have a high technical understanding of the product. Over confident?
Overall Review: 3 8800GTX 768s in SLI with hybrid enabled shows 4 display adapters in device manager :) Have 4 Gskill x2gig @ 1066. No need to overclock the 9850 Phenom when Crysis is running smooth as silk with all settings maxed. 8gigs of ram may be overkill but better to err on the side of too much. If you read the manual and follow it's instructions to the T, you should not have any issues. If you are a slow learner like me, take your time and read the manual front to back. Also, go to the Asus message boards to get some input from the posters on bios updates and compatability issues.
P990
Pros: shiny, feels comfortable in my big hands, feels quality.
Cons: Can't get it to work with Grid on my pc. Saitek software either doesn't work or I'm doing something wrong.
Overall Review: I'll spend some more time with it and do a follow up if I miraculously find a way to make it work.
Refurb Still smells like new
Pros: Looks like brand new never used. Worked great right out of the box. Quick shipping and very well protected in cushioned packaging.
Cons: Zero
Overall Review: Feels like I got a great deal. Hopefully it lasts but, I have no reason to think it wont.
Refurbished. Everything worked as Advertised
Pros: Everything works
Cons: Took 7 days to deliver
Overall Review: Wouldn't really mind waiting 7 days but if I had known ahead of time that it was going to take that long I would have paid more for shipping. No estimated time for delivery during entire wait.
**(UPDATE Added second card) Plays ARK with settings maxed with one card
Pros: Works much better than I thought it would. Smaller than my old 2GB brick and much better performance.
Cons: ** review with one card **Runs hot. In 67 to 70 degree environment with case cover off and small fan blowing on high at the motherboard the fans on this video card are still high pitch screaming. I wear noise cancelling headphones and can still hear the fans. Of course this is when I'm playing ARK with the game settings maxed. Otherwise very quiet.
Overall Review: ** Installed second card. Frame rate improvement with ARK settings maxed (38 to 45fps average with random dips into the teens when near large bases). Sound emissions cut in half. So much quieter with two cards. *** 16GB ram, 3.60 gigahertz AMD FX -6100 Six-Core, Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Would love to update to Ryzen but I'm not ready for Windows 10. Maybe update cpu to 8 core with H2O cooling. It's okay for now.
Docked two eggs for company not board. Does not support Win 7.
Pros: Great looking. Bought two ASRock boards. 1 for Windows 10 build and other for Windows 7 64. The 10 build went smoothly as expected.
Cons: Tried Windows 7 on this board and a Ryzen supporting ASUS board with the same exact results. They both posted fine, but when you try install Win 7 the install aborts with blue screen warning. No warnings whatsoever from ASUS or ASROCK or AMD that Windows 7 is incompatible with their devices.
Overall Review: Right where it says on the box "supports Windows 10" should also say 'will not support Windows 7'. Don't waste mine and your valuable time with RMA nonsense. Forewarn your customers. It's the logical rational thing to do.
Probably a fine company to work with
When shopping directly with Newegg I am able to track my items. Going through Renewabletech via Newegg I was only able to see that the package was stuck in a warehouse somewhere with no expected or even guesstimated date of delivery.
