Solid NAS -- Some Speed/Noise Issues5/7/2020 1:53:45 PM

Pros: - Nice setup wizard - Uptime is better than the unit it replaces - Supports Plex and other apps - Fairly compact

Cons: - Mostly plastic. It's solid enough, but certainly less so than the unit it replaces - Somewhat noisy. Creates a cyclical buzzing sound that can be heard from an adjacent room - Slow upload speed. Transferring my existing 2TB of data across a Gigabit LAN took multiple DAYS. At first, I blamed this on my old unit being a slow source. Since then, I've noticed that uploading things from my PC is also pretty slow.

Overall Review: Overall, I'd recommend this as an entry system. As an "upgrade" system, I'd probably look at alternatives before deciding.

Very good visuals - Sound leaves a LOT to be desired.9/22/2018 6:06:10 AM

Pros: - Fast response rate - Arrived quickly, no dead pixels - Very configurable via the settings menu - Stand is stylish

Cons: - No audio OUT, only Audio IN - 2W speakers are not exceptionally useful

Overall Review: Bought this to replace the 24" TV I was using that had overscan issues using HDMI. I was aware it only had 2W speakers, but I thought that would be enough, and that if it wasn't I could always add speakers via a headphone jack (my PC tower is not co-located to the screen) Graphically, it's everything I wanted. However, I vastly overestimated its sound capabilities. The speakers have no bass response AT ALL, and at 2W, you can barely hear anything even with volumes set at 100% on the computer AND the monitor. Moreover, it doesn't HAVE a headphone jack -- the jack that's present is audio IN (an odd choice, since why would you want to plug something in to a unit with such weak playback capability?) Thankfully I found the bit about the jack before I bought an extra set of speakers. Now I'll have to look for an HDMI pass-through or a USB sound device to extract the audio. If you're buying this for graphics, great. But do NOT purchase this if you need to be able to hear anything through it!

Good Value processor3/28/2018 8:47:43 AM

Pros: - Meets minimum specs for VR (I'm not there yet, but like that I could be) - Got in combo with a ASRock AB350 Pro4 for very reasonable price. - Includes CPU fan with thermal grease already applied. Ready to install.

Cons: - None

Overall Review: This replaced an Athlon X2, so I really can't have anything negative to say!

Great for what it is3/28/2018 8:45:45 AM

Pros: - Reasonably priced for 16GB, plus I snagged a promo! - Works really well with my ASRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard (it's on the QVL list) - Well packaged

Cons: - As mentioned in other reviews, no heatsink, just a sticker. Ok for me because I'm not planning to OC.

Best Value for the Money3/28/2018 8:40:10 AM

Pros: - Meets minimum requirements for VR (I'm not there yet, but maybe someday) - Most reasonably priced GPU for its class - Form factor is a little shorter than competing cards, which yields more room in the case. - Includes port covers for dust protection

Cons: - Still pretty pricey, but that's the market because of crypto.

Overall Review: This replaced a GT710 when i upgraded my MB. Wow, what a difference -- Instant jump to EPIC settings! As a result, I'm very happy with it. :)

Worked on First Try!3/28/2018 8:34:32 AM

Pros: - 4 SATA ports, and included 2 cables. That was nice. - Lots of USB ports, including USB-C - QVL for memory included things NewEgg actually sells (I paired it G.SKILL FORTIS 2 x 8GB DDR4 2400 RAM) - Included documentation was very helpful in understanding pinouts and memory installation slots. - Plugged everything in, and it posted and booted into Win10 on first try (no adjustment or additional software needed!)

Cons: - Wish the instructions had been more clear about when to mount the board in the case (before/after installing the CPU). They just skip that step altogether. As a result, I struggled with the backer plate for the CPU fan a little bit and had to take it in and out a couple of times to get it right. - Second PCI-e slot is relatively close to the primary. I ended up opting to not reinstall my video capture card because it would have been in tight proximity to the GPU fan and I was concerned about airflow. - Board fit snugly to the edges of my existing ATX case. I had to remove my hard drives to tip it into place. That, combined with manufacturers' tendency to put the case switch/LED pinouts right on the edge of the dang board made it kind of tricky to plug in. This is probably more the fault of my case than the MB. Your mileage may vary.

Overall Review: Bought this as an upgrade to an existing Athlon XP configuration. Purchased it in a combo with a Ryzen 3 1200. Also added memory listed above, and a GeForce GTX1050 Ti GPU, and reused my existing hard drive and case. A tip if you're upgrading: check the position of your standoffs on your case. They may need to be moved for the new board. Not doing it up front caused me some minor discomfort. NewEgg was *unbelievably fast* with shipping. I ordered at 1pm on a Friday and received it by 10am THE NEXT MORNING. Wow!! Overall, I'm thrilled with this purchase, and especially with NewEgg service!

Great machine for its price point!5/12/2017 4:07:06 AM

Pros: 8GB of RAM Win 10 Pro, came with installation disc -- that alone is worth more than the price. Speedy enough for what it is -- the Core 2 Duo is a workhorse! It's not super tiny, but it's reasonably compact and well laid out in the interior. Fast shipping and well packaged. Only minor cosmetic issues (scratches) on one corner of the case, not bad for a refurb!

Cons: Although the product description says it has Radeon graphics, there was no mention about ports. It basically has a Radeon PCIe card in it with DVI. Since I didn't have a DVI cable, I tried to use the onboard VGA, but with the card installed I couldn't even get into the BIOS to select onboard graphics. After some fumbling, I realized if I pulled the card, it would revert. So ultimately no biggie there. I don't think I could have actually used the card if I wanted to -- the port was plugged off with insulation material from packing. Had to reinstall Win10 on it because it couldn't access the boot device (maybe because of repeated power-downs when I was trying to get the video working). Again, easy to correct because of the DVD drive and the provided Windows disc. It is fairly noisy, and I get a weird buzz when using VGA graphics, but if that's an ongoing problem I can always buy a cheap graphics card and still be money ahead from more expensive systems. The BIOS battery is missing its battery release, so hopefully I don't ever have to change that because I'll be prying it out of there.

Overall Review: Bought this for my in-laws for use with web browsing and light desktop publishing. Although it can be assumed from the description, know that this does not have wireless. A $17 USB dongle takes care of that. Overall, a great system for the price point. This company seems to do a good job with these!

Great Support1/5/2012 3:41:34 AM

Pros: Good support from Philips!

Cons: No remote control

Overall Review: Update to my previous review -- I contacted Philips and even though the unit was out of warranty, they were able to help me diagnose it as a faulty DC power cord, and they offered to send me a new one at no charge. That's fantastic support (at 6:30am no less!).

Works great - fast shipping!9/4/2010 5:39:39 PM

Pros: Relatively cheap, low shipping cost due to compact packaging. Worked right out of the box, booted right up!

Cons: None

Overall Review: Bought two of these to breathe new life into an aging Compaq Presario 5101US laptop running Windows XP. Went from 512MB to 2GB for under $100. Now she zips -- saved my in-laws $300+ on a new machine.

Pretty decent basic WMC remote!4/14/2010 6:21:26 PM

Pros: Starts up and controls all functions of WMC. I like that the DVD Menu button goes to the Movies function, which is great for movie libraries. Good response from the IR receiver. Installed automatically right out of the box on Win 7 Pro x64. Plus, I got it free bundled with a tuner card!

Cons: The included USB extension cable is WAY too short. I'm not sure it would even extend to the top of my case, let alone outside of the desk enclosure my case sits in.

Overall Review: A lot of other reviewers seem to be reviewing their tuner card and not the remote....let's stay on topic! The font size is a bit small, and the manual for this thing is a joke. "Un-properly connection". Really! Why can't companies hire a native English speaker to write their manuals for the US market? Thankfully, it's so intuitive, you don't NEED the manual. Gave it 4/5 for missing just one feature. Since my TV service requires a STB, I would have liked the ability to program Channel Up/Down to match my STB remote. Now I have to keep that one in play too... As always, great service & fast shipping by Newegg!
