A beast.
Pros: - Lots of cores - Lots of memory bandwidth - ECC - High clocks
Cons: - Lots of heat
Overall Review: Built a box for EM simulation work. It has a unique requirement for 1) fast single-thread performance in parts of simulation 2) lots of cores needed and 3) lots of memory bandwidth. Other machines we've used with dual Xeons have the bandwidth, but the price to get lots of cores is intense and single-threaded performance is poor. Very fun to build a machine with this at its core. The processor is HUGE. Cooling is a Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 with a second fan in a Phanteks Enthoo. It's a nice setup since the air through the cooler blows straight UP and out through the top fans, but even so, hitting it hard with Prime95 will push it to 85C or so. It holds 4GHz on all cores in that scenario or 3.7GHz depending on the test. HWMonitor shows the power max holds at 280W as expected. I used Kingston KSM32RS4/16HDR on the Asus WRX80E-SAGE even though they aren't on the qualified list and they work fine, showing up at 3200MHz.
Great screen
Pros: Great resolution. That extra 120 pixels high makes all the difference. Good size, too, and bright enough that I turned it down to 60%. I'm a little suspicious the LED backlight will lose strength over time so it's good to know there is overhead.
Cons: None that affect me. I can't speak to the color quality as I'm partially colorblind.
heatsink changed
Pros: Still a great card and now a single-slot solution (if that matters to you). They also bumped up the stock clocks (used to be 500x1200)
Cons: They downgraded the heatsink...
Overall Review: ...since I bought it and reviewed it on here. Mine came with the blue fan shroud and external exhaust -> therefore my review will not be typical of new cards.
Very nice card
Pros: This card runs Oblivion at completely maxed settings at 1680x1050 at around 30 fps inside during fights, 22 fps outside, with a minimum of 14 outside - still pretty smooth as it only hits this when a spell explodes on you.
Cons: I bought it before the price drop....
Overall Review: I just ran the automatic OCing utility and this bumped up to 620 core, 720 memory at 61 degrees maximum. Not bad, not bad at all.
