GIGABYTE B550 GAMING X AM4 AMD B550 ATX Motherboard with Dual M.2, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0

Pros: The 550 chipset works well with AMD's newest processors, and this board is exceptionally low priced. You can find the processors that are compatible with this at Now when you put a 5600G processor (or other 5000 series CPU) in it, and it doesn't POST, don't send it back. Use the nice utility that Gigabyte provides and follow my instructions. Connect the board to a power supply (the big connector, and the smaller 8 pin connector). You can work with the board on a non-conductive surface (plastic, wood, but not the anti-static bag), or install it into a case. You don't need to install memory or the cpu. If you have already installed the memory and CPU, do not remove them - this process will work with either situation. Don't turn on the PC if it is already in its case. Go to another PC, and go to the Gigabyte site with the latest BIOS. This can be located at . Download the latest BIOS, unzip the zip file, and take the file with the that looks like this: 'B550GX.14e' and rename it gigabyte.bin . Copy the renamed file to the root of a flash drive. Plug the flash drive into the motherboard's white USB connector. Now, press the button marked Q-flash right next to the white USB port that now has your flash drive in it. Now you will wait approximately 7 minutes, and you will see the little LED next to the button flash on and off. If the PC has already been assembled, it may do other things as well (start up the DVD drive, turn on LEDs and fans, etc.). Allow it to complete the process - you will know when it is done when the LED next to the flash drive on the back of the mother board stops flashing. If it is connected up to a CPU, memory, and a drive loaded with the OS, it will boot as well when it is done. If not, you can finish your installation, and it will POST and behave normally.

Cons: Pay attention to the Gigabyte support list (older series CPUs will not work with the 550 chipset). This is a fine motherboard, and I have installed Windows 10 on it. If you want to install Win 11 on it, make sure to turn on the features that permit secure boot (fTPM in the CPU settings). You may have to do a bit of research on setting up the BIOS configuration, as the manual is thin, and lacks details.

Overall Review: I highly recommend this motherboard, especially at the price Newegg is charging for it. If you buy it with the 5600G CPU, you will have an inexpensive processor with an inexpensive board that will be a joy to work with. The G.Skill memory that Newegg is selling that works well with it is model Model F4-3200C16D-32GVK, and it will give you 32G of memory for a really good price. I have tested this memory with Memtest 86+, and it works perfectly with this board and the 5600G CPU. I have also run Prime 95 on this setup using Win 10, and that also works fine. Other folks have complained about the fact that it only has 4 SATA ports, but that is all the 550 chipset supports. For the price, you just can't beat it. If you really need more SATA ports, you can get an inexpensive SATA controller to connect to the expansion slots. Remember, if you use an APU processor with the graphics function built-in, you will have the first big slot available to you as well. I have PCs with the 450 and 570 chipset, and this board is a nice combination of features. Don't forget to get an NVMe drive to go witih this. SATA drives will only make the PC slow, as the SATA interface is much slower than NVMe.

Seller has not responded to my inquiry about an error in shipping.

I would never recommend this seller. I would recommend another seller, or another vendor (not Newegg, if the only choice was this seller). The seller showed my order as having been delivered three months ago (order placed two days ago) to a different state. Sent email to seller (no reply). Asked Newegg to send an email to the seller. No reply.
