Good RAM3/6/2018 2:23:19 PM

Pros: The CAS is high but that's why the price is lower. I'm using this RAM in the following motherboard: - ASUS PRIME B250M-A LGA 1151 Intel B250 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard (N82E16813132947)

Cons: Why is RAM so expensive? I've been going through my purchase history since 2003 with Newegg and RAM has never been priced higher. What gives?

Overall Review: Like I said, I would have rather had RAM in the 9 CAS range but I had to stay within a budget on my recent build.

Good card - horrible price3/6/2018 2:18:40 PM

Pros: The card is rock solid. I've always had good luck with Gigabyte video cards and I will continue to purchase them. This card does not require a PCI-E power connector.

Cons: The price. There is no reason this card should cost so much. No one mining for bit-coins is going to use this card. The price has been inflated because of the hype surrounding mining. I won't knock an egg off for this, but don't think for a minute we system builders are happy with this pricing.

Overall Review: I would have rather had a Ti with 4GB but the price ... sheesh!

Windows 10 Spyware Edition - Yeah!3/6/2018 2:12:34 PM

Pros: Ugh, what can I say? I had a friend who wanted a new system built. The system I built included a 7th generation Intel CPU and therefore *required* Windows 10.

Cons: I absolutely hate Windows 10, from and end-user and PC technician perspective. And to think, I thought Vista was bad. This makes Vista look good!

Overall Review: The person I built the system for does not need Hyper-V or Domain support so there was no reason to go to the Pro version. If you do not plan on using virtual machines, or logging into a domain, all you need is the home version.

EVGA power supplies have always been good to me3/6/2018 2:06:28 PM

Pros: Nice solid power supply. Plenty of power connectors for everything you could imagine throwing into a PC case (even a floppy drive!). The power supply includes a master power switch on the back as well.

Cons: None - good quality power supply

Overall Review: This not a modular or even semi-modular power supply. This is old-school so you'll need to find an area to tuck away the connectors/wires you are not using. Not a minus, just letting other potential buyers know.

Pleasently surprised!3/6/2018 2:01:38 PM

Pros: For $15 I was not expecting much. I simply needed a functional keyboard and mouse for a cheap build. I was surprised at the quality I received for such a low price. Thanks Logitech!

Cons: None - a good buy

Overall Review: I will probably consider this my go-to keyboard/mouse combo for future builds. I usually purchase combos from Microsoft, but those are twice the price.

Nice little monitor for the price3/6/2018 1:56:51 PM

Pros: Since this monitor was manufactured by Asus I knew it would be a winner, and it is. Backlight bleed-through is almost non-existant and the buttons are easy to get at and use to configure various settings. I'm using this monitor's DVI port paired with the following video card: - GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 DirectX 12 GV-N1050OC-2GD 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card (N82E16814125919) I'm also utilizing the built-in speakers for sound. The box includes: - Power cable - DVI cable - VGA cable - TRS sound cable (the standard headphone jack on each end that you are familiar with) The base is rock solid and the monitor can be adjusted to pretty much any angle you need while having the base still support it well.

Cons: None - this is a very nice monitor for the price.

Overall Review: The built-in speakers are really low volume. With Windows at 100% and the speaker's volume set to max you get good sound, but not very loud. No reason to remove an egg though, we all know monitor speakers were not meant to fill a room with sound.

The only mechanical drive I will purchase3/6/2018 1:49:20 PM

Pros: The black series from WD is my go-to mechanical drive for all PC builds. I have black drives (and formerly known as Caviar drives) from 10 years ago still running to this day. The work, and work well.

Cons: You should include a chocolate bar with your drives. Nothing sweeter than installing a black drive while munching on chocolate.

I always use Intel CPUs3/6/2018 1:42:24 PM

Pros: In 30 years of building computer systems I have only seen one bad Intel CPU. AMD on the other-hand, so many I could probably pave my driveway with them. This CPU comes complete with the heatsink and fan.

Cons: Being advertised as only working with Windows 10 spyware edition.

Overall Review: This chip will work with Windows 7 just fine. Microsoft has crippled the update process for Windows 7 computers using 7th generation or above CPUs. You'll need to manually install security updates if you use Windows 7. Microsoft *really* wants you to purchase Windows 10 spyware edition by doing this dirty little trick. I paired this CPU with the following motherboard and RAM: - ASUS PRIME B250M-A LGA 1151 Intel B250 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard (N82E16813132947) - G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Memory Kit Model F4-2133C15D-8GRR (N82E16820231829) The CPU is churning and burning just fine. Oh, by the way, the included CPU heatsink/fan is more than enough to keep this CPU running nice and cool. Don't waste your money on a third-party cooler.

Great little board from Asus3/6/2018 1:27:15 PM

Pros: Quality built as I've come to expect from all Asus products. BIOS setup was a snap, no issues there. Here are the system specs I built using this motherboard: - Intel Core i5-7500 Kaby Lake Quad-Core 3.4 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80677I57500 Desktop Processor (N82E16819117730) - G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Memory Kit Model F4-2133C15D-8GRR (N82E16820231829) - WD Black 500GB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD5003AZEX (N82E16822236345) - GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 DirectX 12 GV-N1050OC-2GD 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card (N82E16814125919) - EVGA 500 B1 100-B1-0500-KR 80+ BRONZE 500W Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply (N82E16817438012) - Cooler Master N200 - Micro ATX Mini Tower Computer Case with Front 240mm Radiator Support and Ventilated Front Panel (N82E16811119274) - Asus VE228H 21.5" Full HD HDMI LED BackLight LCD Monitor w/Speakers ASCR 10,000,000:1 (N82E16824236100) - Logitech MK120 Wired USB Keyboard and Mouse - Black (N82E16823126097) - Windows 10 Home - 64-bit - OEM (N82E16832416892) The person I built the system for wanted a system between $850 and $900, medium gaming, and light CAD work. With the price of video cards skyrocketing (thanks coin miners) and RAM prices through the roof, this is what I came up with. The system operates very well with the motherboard handling everything just fine.

Cons: Asus! What the heck? The manual does not contain a pinout diagram for the front panel connectors. Instead you need to rely on the silk-screened pinout assignments on the motherboard itself, which quite frankly is difficult to figure out. I've built many systems in the past few years utilizing Asus motherboards and this is the first time I have seen them skimp on documentation included. I hope this is not a trend. No reason to take off an egg, but I buy Asus because of the quality documentation as well as the rock solid reputation. Please consider keeping up the quality of your documentation.

Overall Review: If you purchase a 7th generation or above Intel CPU you will need to use Windows 10. Technically, Windows 7 will work just fine, but you'll need to manually perform security updates. Microsoft *really* wants you to buy Windows Spyware, so much so that they have crippled the update process of Windows 7 when using newer processors.

G.Skill to the rescue1/16/2018 7:50:48 PM

Pros: G.Skill RAM has never let me down. I installed these into an HTPC that I built. No need for hi-speed RAM.

Cons: None. G.Skill has always worked well for me. I suppose the price could be a little friendlier but older RAM always gets more expensive as time goes on.

Overall Review: Get any DDR3 RAM now if you can. The price of this older memory has been slowly rising and will continue to do so as manufacturers wish to phase it out at some time.

Graphics on a budget1/16/2018 7:42:58 PM

Pros: Very simple graphics card - no PCIe power needed, no fan to make noise. Not for the gamer but instead for things like an HTPC, which is why I purchased it. The price is right for basic graphics needs.

Cons: None at all.

Overall Review: I downloaded the latest driver from nVidia, installed, and was up and running in no time. I used the included low profile slot adapters to install the card into an HP 8300 SFF computer. This computer will be used as an HTPC (Home Theater PC). The card includes HDMI, VGA, and DVI-D connectors allowing any monitor you have to work with it. Under load (streaming video from Internet or my home server) the card never gets above 95 degrees F. The built-in video in the HP 8300 computer actually has 'slightly' better performance. However, since the computer only has an available VGA and DisplayPort connector I needed to install this card. My TV only supports HDMI (VGA too, but yuck, pushing 1920x1080 with VGA yields a bit of noise in the signal since VGA's max resolution supported is 1920x1200). Digital is the only way to go with HD resolutions or higher. Oh, one other thing, when you install nVidia drivers make sure to un-select everything except the drivers themselves. Even then a 'Telemetry' and 'Container' service will be installed by default. Simply use MSCONFIG to disable these two services. There will be no impact on the performance of the card. These are cr@p-ware services included by default with the drivers. Not needed at all.

A minor issue I hope the vendor will resolve ** UPDATE **1/8/2018 10:15:01 AM

Pros: Very clean computer inside and out. A+ condition overall. The computer boots to BIOS and everything appears to be as advertised (correct CPU, HDD, etc..). I did have one issue (see below) but things happen, I get that. I would recommend this vendor's systems based on what I received even though I do have an issue. ** UPDATE ** The vendor sent me out a replacement DVD drive as soon as they received word that the original was bad. I updated the rating to 5 eggs! Thank you very much. One other thing to note. I purchased this system from Savings Depot. Sometimes when I click on the link for this item it takes me to a system that costs $150 from Micomp? I purchased this item for $90 from Savings Depot. In fact, the reviews for this item show up on Micomp's page as well? Not sure if Newegg's system is acting up or what? This caused a problem when I first contacted the vendor for a replacement DVD drive. The email was sent to Micomp instead of Savings Depot. Of course, Micomp ignored the email. When I finally realized what was going on I forwarded the email to Savings Depot who then promptly took care of the issue. Be aware of this in case you purchase from Savings Depot but your emails get sent to Micomp instead.

Cons: The DVD drive with my unit is defective. It makes a grinding noise when I first power on the computer. The tray will not open. When I manually open the tray, insert a disc, and help the drive to close the tray I then found out the drive will not spin the disc up. Until I get this resolved I won't be able to install the OS I have on DVD.

Overall Review: I have sent an email to the vendor asking for a replacement DVD drive. I will update this review to a 5 star when the vendor corrects my minor issue. This would have a been a 5 star review right away if I had not had an issue with the DVD drive. One other thing to note, while technically the system did come with 4GB of RAM as advertised, there was only one 4GB DIMM installed in the system. You may want to ask the vendor about this before ordering (I didn't so my bad). This means you will only get single channel performance from your RAM. Luckily, I had two 2GB sticks to replace the one 4GB stick supplied, giving me dual channel performance.

The wife loves her Sims ** UPDATE **12/29/2017 9:58:13 PM

Pros: It's version 3. From what I have read on-line version 4 is a pile of stinky stuff.

Cons: A bit pricey for an older game.

Overall Review: ** UPDATE ** Ok, why is EA's Origin such a pain in the ASCII? I installed the Sims. Origin said I then needed to update it with over 3GB of files. Did that. Loaded the first game pack. Sims will not load, states it needs to be updated again with over 7GB of files. Did that. Now there are two Sims icons on desktop. So basically I had to install, upgrade, then install a newer version again. What a convoluted mess. I really hate EA and Origin.

Oh how I hate Origin12/29/2017 9:53:21 PM

Pros: The DVD will not install (always says there is not enough disc space). You will need to go to Origin's web store, enter the serial numbers manually, and then download the game content, then install it. Others are reporting this same issue (that's how I figured out how to get this installed.

Cons: Origin is the worst excuse for a gaming front end I have ever seen. Love live Steam.

Overall Review: I really don't like EA games. The wife loves the Sims ... it's the only reason I purchased this.

Purchased 2 - both working excellent.12/29/2017 9:43:10 PM

Pros: No PCIe power supply connector needed. I purchased two of these for my boys for Xmas as upgrades from their older video cards. The hardware and driver installation went without a hitch.

Cons: The only thing I don't like is the heat sinks are not vented out the back of the system like most video cards. No reason to knock off an egg however. I suppose I could always remove a slot cover if heating becomes an issue.

Overall Review: I am having no problems with fans being either too loud or too fast? I have no idea why other reviewers are reporting this? I downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia and all works well, including the fan speed.

Good SSD Drive12/1/2017 11:17:20 PM

Pros: No hassle installation. Cloned my standard HDD to this SSD and all works as it should ... just faster!

Cons: The addition of four fine screws for installation would be nice. I have plenty laying around but for those who don't this will be an extra step.

Overall Review: Sandisk offers software like Samsung's Magician as a download on their website. It gives you the ability to update firmware, run S.M.A.R.T. tests, and benchmarks. The firmware in the drive I received is the latest version. Be careful not to break the SATA power connector. When I was connecting the drive I pushed too hard on the connector and thought I broke it (yikes!). Luckily I did not, however the board the connector is attached to bends very easily.

Worked as expected11/23/2017 8:45:02 AM

Pros: Older memory still available when needed.

Cons: A bit pricey for older memory.

Overall Review: I've always had zero problems with G.SKILL memory. A note to others having problems with G.Skill memory soon after installation. Many people don't bother to take proper ESD precautions when handling DIMM modules. You *MUST* do this. Many times ESD damage won't make itself known until days, weeks, or even months after the fact. I have never had a module, G.Skill or otherwise, that worked out of the box go bad later on simply because I take proper ESD precautions. Get yourself a cheap ESD wrist strap, connect it to the case before touching the RAM (make sure computer is not plugged in!), and you'll be good to go.

Woohoo! ** Update **11/22/2017 3:16:04 PM

Pros: Mated with an Intel motherboard, Corsair 6GB Dominator RAM, SLI'd nVidia250s this thing rocks! I purchased this CPU for a build back in August of 2010 - It's still going strong! Runs Windows 7 Pro just as well as any new system would today. I wonder how long I can continue using this system??

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Can't go wrong with Intel CPUs.

Pros: Another year and still going strong! I love this set! Update: Nov 2017 - still going strong.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: I want to go with a bigger picture, but I can't see replacing a perfectly good screen just for that. When I do finally opt to get a new set it will be a Samsung.

It's an OK system with a few issues11/22/2017 2:28:42 PM

Pros: Good price for a decent used i5 3rd gen system. Condition of the system is A+, no dings or scratches and the internals were nice and clean. Was able to use the Windows 7 sticker on the system to upgrade the computer to Windows 7 and make it genuine. If I ever want to return to Windows 10 the sticker is there and ready to be used. (HP also offers Windows Vista and XP 32/64 drivers for this system as well).

Cons: Mismatched memory (see other below). Three eggs for not matching the memory correctly. I'll need to remove the memory in slots 2 and 4 and replace with matching memory installed in slots 1 and 3. I'll be sure to scrutinize my HP off-lease refurb purchases from now on to make sure I am not purchasing a system refurbed by this company again. This is just sloppy folks.

Overall Review: - The hard drive shows a power on count of 120 times equaling 917 days (about 2.5 years) which is about what is to be expected. - CPU: Intel core i5 3470 Ivy Bridge Socket 1155 LGA 22nm @ 3.2GHz - The memory is a hodge-podge of memory modules. -- Slot1: Hyundai Electronics PC3-12800 (800 MHz) HMT325U6CFR8C-PB -- Slot2: Nanya Technology PC3-10700 (667 MHz) NT2GC64B88B0NF-CG -- Slot3: Hyundai Electronics PC3-12800 (800 MHz) HMT325U6CFR8C-PB -- Slot4: Kingston PC3-10700 (667 MHz) HP497157-D88-ELFWG I purchased this system to be built as a mid-range gamer, utilizing a low profile 1050 video card. Had the memory been matched properly this would have been a 5 egg deal. I did need to update the Intel ME (management engine) firmware on the CPU because of the recent flaws (hacks) found with it. HP did have the update available on their web site. The included DVD drive is DVD-ROM only (no write capability). I knew this purchasing the system but am including this info for anyone wondering. ** UPDATE ** My goal when creating a mid-range gaming system is to get all the Windows 7 performance rating values to 7.9. With the mismatched memory I could only get a 7.6 rating. After installing memory in slots 2 and 4 that matched the modules in 1 and 3 I got the 7.9 rating. I installed a Gigabyte low-profile 1050 GTX video card and got the 7.9 rating. A 2 year old Crucial 500GB SSD I had laying around got the hard drive performance to a 7.9 performance rating. Alas, the CPU can only get a 7.5 rating ... close enough! Not bad for a total of about $300 in parts.

Good bang for the buck11/22/2017 1:30:58 PM

Pros: As with all Gigabyte cards not a single problem with installation or loading drivers. I installed this card into a recently purchased HP 6300 SFF computer purchased on Newegg. It's driving an LG Ultrawide monitor with no problems. Windows 7 maxes out at 7.9 with this card under performance rating. The fan is whisper quiet even when running games. This card replaced a Gigabyte low-profile GT610 that I was using in an older HP SFF computer I upgraded from. What a massive difference in performance!

Cons: None.

Overall Review: The card comes with the full height bracket installed. The box includes a low profile bracket that takes about 5 minutes to swap out. There is no DVI converter included in the box to convert to VGA because the DVI connector is DVI-D (digital) only. I don't believe you'll be able to drive a VGA monitor with a simple converter connected to this card as all outputs are digital only. The box includes a DVD with drivers and software, however I always opt to download the latest Geforce drivers from Nvidia instead. The drivers were readily available and installed without a hitch. The new Nvidia drivers load a telemetry service by default. I've read conflicting reports on the net that Nvidia does/does not use this to report system settings and other private information back to home base. However, just to be sure I use MSCONFIG to disable the service. The card will operate just fine without the telemetry service installed. I also disable the container service, again without any ill effect to the card's performance.

BestMassage 6-Shelf Commercial Steel Wire Shelving Rack WS-776-Chrome11/12/2017 8:22:48 PM

Pros: Think of these as the little cousins to the heavy duty racks you would find in an IT department. They have a 1200LB capacity rating would they can probably handle. They are easy to set up and configure and perfect for organizing things around the house, basement, and garage. The casters are very heavy duty which I did not expect for such a low price ... bonus.

Cons: None at all. (See UPDATE below)

Overall Review: A few of the shelves (I purchase 5 of these units) had slight bends in them from shipping but was easily corrected, no need to deduct an egg. They come packaged well so I suspect it was the shipping gorillas that bent them. UPDATE: The 1200LB capacity is way too high. Over the summer I loaded one of the shelving units down with 600LBs of wood slabs and when I went to roll the shelf around the casters instantly buckled. These are still a good buy for pretty decent shelving units as long you you don't put too much weight on them when using the included casters.

48"x18"x71" Closet Organizer Garment Rack Portable Clothes Hanger Home Shelf12/4/2016 9:16:24 PM

Pros: Very easy to assemble and exactly what I was looking for. I purchased three to organize clothes in some closets and they do the job well.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Don't expect heavy duty IT department style racks with these. They are for hanging clothes and do that job perfectly. I would recommend to anyone.
