Board works great

MSI P35D3 Platinum LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI P35D3 Platinum LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board worked great. Everything worked, it liked the two gig of memory I put in...and it was easy enough to put into my case and make all the connections. I have it running on XP.

Cons: This is a DDR3 board. You have to buy the expensive stuff...I missed that on my research.

Overall Review: The processor power plug is an EIGHT pin connection...my power supply only had a four pin connection. (But I got the adaptor wire here at new egg when I figured that out.) You do have to load ALL the drivers from the CD...(oops) and then it works fine.

Pros: Well...it burns stuff so far. It was recognized by XP and my MOB. (Have not had a chance to try out the litescribe bit yet.)

Cons: The software. It basically does nothing. It is only an evaluation version and DOES NOT come with the DVD software or MP3 software. You have to pay for that as an upgrade. Also, the installation of the new license was a three hour episode as I finally learned to uninstall everything, then install using the new liscense code.

Overall Review: This was the hardest part of my new system to set up. It is also the LOUDEST part. When it spins up to burn it is FRIKKEN LOUD. Not so loud when playing DVD's though. All in all it took me over three days to figure out how to get this thing running and doing what I expected it to do.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Plays on this!!

XFX GeForce 8600 GT 512MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Video Card PVT84JYAJG

Pros: NN2 was the reason I decided to finally upgrade. My lappy was just not up to playing any of the newest games. After some research I found that there are no games currently even using the 512mb...so that is where I decided to stop. No need to get two cards or crazy memory at this time for me. Graphics are great, the game plays on pretty much all the medium settings (some set to high). ((I only tweaked it because NN2 is just a bear to run anyway.)) I have this running on the MSI Platinum D3 board and using WinXP. (Will not upgrade to Vista just for flashy/nonproductive crud.)

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Haven't had a chance to try the digital connection yet (no cable with my monitor), but VGA works great and my DVD's are fun to watch on my new system.

Decent tower

Cooler Master Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I like the tower, it has lots of space and it fits everything I needed...harddrive, DVD burner, MSI Platinum board, graphics card. I didn't get any additional fans since it had the big one on back and little one on front.

Cons: Not too many, and not really cons. The little fan on front is a bit noisey, if you are OCD you could get a quieter one. The instruction booklet was lacking, and I did have to do some research on the internet. But everything finally plugged into the mother board

Overall Review: This does not have a multi-card reader on it, but I knew that and will add one later. I love the number of USB ports on front. The only thing I am worried about now is that I have pets, and I can see the hair on the front of case where the fan is. This is not a thing about the case itself, but may need to think about putting it somewhere a little more isolated.

Had to buy this stuff

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-2GBNQ
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-2GBNQ

Pros: The memory works fine. It was all recognized by my MSI Platinum board running XP. No tweaking was necessary to run Neverwinter Nights 2....(which was the main reason for upgrading to a new system)

Cons: Really really expensive still. I had to buy this as I did not notice that the MOB was only DDR3.

Overall Review: Interesting advertising on the box...ironic how it looks very similar to a Encyte box...LOL.
