You can OC with the right CPU and Bios

ASRock H97M Pro4 LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock H97M Pro4 LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great inexpensive socket 1150 micro size MB with built in integrated graphics for an HTPC. Paired it with a Haswell i5-4690K CPU for overclocking. It came with V1.50 bios but no overclocking functions in the bios. I flashed it to the latest bios V2.0 but still no oc functions. Flashed back to V1.90 and the oc functions were there. Currently running my i5-4690K stable at 4.2GHz. I'm using a low profile Scythe Shuriken Rev. B SCSK-1100 CPU cooler left over from my old build with a Lian Li PC-C37 low profile HTPC case so my oc is limited by temps. I will replace the Scythe cooler with a low profile Noctua CPU Cooler to try to increase my oc.

Cons: If you want to lose your oc functions DO NOT flash it to the latest V2.0 bios, use bios V1.90 for K series Haswell processors.

Quiet and still fairly efficient!

be quiet! Pure Rock 2, CPU cooler, 150W TDP, incl. Pure Wings 2 120mm PWM fan, HDT technology LGA 1700 Compatible

Pros: If you don't plan on heavy overclocking and want a quiet cooler than this may be the cooler for you. I recently built a computer with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. It came with the wraith stealth cooler. It's an ok cooler until you stress the 3600. Leaving oc on Auto on my MB, 4200 Mhz, and running the latest versions of Intel Burn Test and OCCT it reached 88C and 86C. The fan was running at 2550 RPM and was loud. I read several reviews on the Rock 2 and most agreed that it sacrifices cooling power for quietness, so I purchased another 120mm Pure Wings 2 fan for a push-pull configuration. These fans are rated for 1500 RPM max. I ran the same tests and the max temps were 73C and 71C. The fans were running at 1450 and 1480 RPM. Due to the blade design they were still quiet.

Cons: The fan clips are a bit flimsy and the fans are still a bit loose and the fins on the cooler bend easily. When I stood my computer up the fans slipped down a bit. The back plate on my Asrock B550 MB will not stay in place unless you hold it from the back. So topside installation only is not possible.

Overall Review: As I said if you are only going to do light or no overclocking with a lower voltage CPU like the 3600 and want quiet then this will do; but there is a lot of competition out there in this price range that gives better thermal performance. I'm keeping mine at 4200 Mhz. CPU voltage was 1.325V, high enough for me. The case in the pic is a Corsair Carbide 110R with front and rear 120mm fans. Temps were recorded with the sides on.

Great ram, finicky mother board!

CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model CMK16GX4M2D3600C18

Pros: Runs at advertised speed and settings.

Cons: May not be a con. Made by different manufacturers. First 2 sticks I purchased were made by SK Hynix, the second 2 by Samsung.

Overall Review: I purchased this ram for my Asrock B550 Phantom Gaming MB. Even though I set the XMP profile to 3600 Mhz it would keep defaulting back to 2133 Mhz. I tried flashing the bios to V1.10 but it would not post and had to clear the CMOS, flashed back to V1.00. I tried resetting the XMP profile 3x and it finally set the ram to 3600 mHz. I purchased another set of the same ram (2x8GB). With all 4 slots filled I set the XMP profile but again it defaulted back to 2133 Mhz. The second set is manufactured by Samsung, the first by SK Hynix. Placed the Samsung ram in the first 2 slots and the SK Hynix ram in slots 3 and 4. Set the XMP profile and this time it worked. All 4, according to CPU-Z and the bios, are running at 3600 Mhz, 18,22,22,42,84,1T. Go figure??

Good bang for your buck for a B550 MB

ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 AM4 AMD B550 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 AM4 AMD B550 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: First major upgrade to my desktop computer in ~10 years. I have been running an oc'ed Intel i5-2500K at 4.6GHZ on an Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 MB. I added an EGA Nvidia GFX Geforce 1660 to it last year. It still runs cool and stable with the latest games, but the prices are right now to upgrade. Paired this B550 MB with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600, and for now 16GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 MHz ram. Pros: An inexpensive, no frills B550 MB. Build went together with no problems. Computer was still able to boot up to Windows 10, did not have to re-install, and just had to install a few drivers. Came with bios 1.00. There’s a bios 1.10 out. The stock cooler that comes with the 3600 is just ok. Will be going with water-cooling in the near future for oc'ing.

Cons: Cons: Newegg’s poor packing and UPS destroying the box. Half of the sparse airbag packing had deflated. The ram and MB box were loose in the box. The one thin piece of plastic tape securing the box was half off. The box was severely crushed on both sides. The MB box was crushed on one side. It is a miracle the MB and ram survived undamaged. I would have refused delivery if I were home.

Overall Review: “This review for Asrock review rebate program.”

So far, so good!!

Lite-On DVD Burner Black SATA Model iHAS124-14
Lite-On DVD Burner Black SATA Model iHAS124-14

Pros: I ordered this last week with a coupon code for $13. + free shipping. I have burned 5 DVD movies this week, with file verification with Ashampoo Burning Studio 15 with no problems. Used Verbatim DVD-R disks.

Cons: Tray is a bit flimsy.

Worth $50. shipped not $80.!!

Corsair Carbide Series 300R Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case ATX (not included) Power Supply
Corsair Carbide Series 300R Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case ATX (not included) Power Supply

Pros: Title says it all. Got this case from NE with a $10. off code and $20. rebate shipped free. What's to say. Nothing special about this case but very functional. Screw less snap in 5.25" bays Screw less removable 3.5" racks with screw holes for 2.5" drives Cut out for installing CPU cooler. Cable cutouts Top front 2-USB 3.0, audio connectors, power and reset buttons Can install up to 7 120/140mm case fans, Comes with 120mm back exhaust and 140mm front intake 3 pin MB connector fans. Thumb screw attached side panels and expansion card back plates. PS and front fan filters Adequate supply of screws and some zip ties Wide enough for a CM Hyper 212 EVO Black painted interior Rubber bottom feet

Cons: This is a mid price case so Corsair cut some corners. No rubber grommets on the cable routing holes. If you want them get the Corsair 350D Grommet Kit The manual only states the case features. Useless for first time builders. I had to cut the zip tie on the audio cable to get to reach my MB pins, needs to be longer. No fan filters for the top or side fans. I purchased a Silverstone Tek 140mm x 2 Fan Filter with Magnet, Black (FF142B) for the top grill. Fits perfectly. The whole front panel has to be removed to clean the front filter. Grab it from the bottom and pull outward. I would not bend back the metal tabs to remove the filter. The tabs are part of the front metal grill. The power led is a bit bright. No big deal for me since my case sits low. Top fan grill is a bit flimsy. I would not store anything on it.
