Mixed Bag with Regards to Quality

Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Flight Stick and Throttle for PC, VR
Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Flight Stick and Throttle for PC, VR

Pros: - Smooth, responsive joystick. It has made a HUGE difference in my combat flight simming, particularly with regards to areas that demand precise control, like aerial refueling. - Solid construction, but only in certain areas (see cons) - Like having the ability to replace the stick, even though I likely never will. Like my mom says, it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. - Having a friction control wheel for the throttle is nice, although you will really need to crank it a while before you start to feel any difference in movement. - Even though they are replicas of an A-10 aircraft combo, I can relatively easily adapt their use to other flight sims if need be. - Heavy base for both the joystick and throttle helps keep them in place, which is nice because I don't have them mounted permanently to anything. - Moving said joysticks with a heavy base has allowed me to develop Batman-like strength.

Cons: - What's with the throttles? The plastic just feels quite cheap compared to the other components. I feel like they should have the same solid construction as the joystick, especially for the price. - The throttle friction will need to be adjusted in most cases, as right out of the box the throttle travel is just too easy. It feels flimsy, which is why it gets put in the con category. - Other switches feel a bit flimsy as well, like the boat switch and china hat switch, with the speed brake switch not far behind. The button on the throttle for the autopilot was giving me grief last night, which makes me wonder if, after only a week, it's already failing. - Not optimal for use in a small space. These are quite massive, so be prepared to have them take up a lot of room on your desk. Less of a con than an observation.

Overall Review: The look and feel of this setup screams quality, and for the most part that is true. But for the hefty price I would have liked to have seen quality throughout the unit and not just in the joystick. I am a little concerned about how this will continue to work after extended use, particularly the buttons and switches on the joystick and throttle. Having said that (cheap transitional phrase. My journalism professor is rolling over in his grave), this really does allow for some magnificent control over my airplanes, especially any of the combat flight simming planes I fly. So much so that it lessens the warning alarms in my head with regards to the quality issues, which I'm not sure is a good thing. But I'll stick with it and keep an eye on the 30-day replacement countdown window.

Not Sure About Battery

2200mAh 010-11599-00 Battery Garmin VIRB, VIRB Elite, Virb Elite Action HD Camera 1.4
2200mAh 010-11599-00 Battery Garmin VIRB, VIRB Elite, Virb Elite Action HD Camera 1.4

Pros: Good price, shipped quickly.

Cons: Not sure if this battery actually works with the Garmin Virb. I inserted the battery and it powers on the unit, but when it's charging it never shows a charge meter like it does when the Garmin battery is installed. I'm not sure if this is a by-product of it being a third-party battery or it simply won't charge.

It's a Downgrade and Upgrade at the Same Time

Oculus Rift S PC-Powered VR Gaming Headset
Oculus Rift S PC-Powered VR Gaming Headset

Pros: - MUCH less screen door effect than the Rift. - Headset is more comfortable to wear and easy to adjust. - NO SENSORS TO SET UP!!! - Uses 1 USB port instead of 4. - Built-in cameras to see the room without having to remove the headset. - Better handling of the "barrier wall" when in games. - Controller response just as good as the original.

Cons: - Lower resolution and no OLED lenses. - Built-in speakers let in too much ambient noise. - Headset's new design means larger, third-party headphones are clunky to wear.

Overall Review: I previously had the Oculus Rift before jumping in head first and buying the Rift S. Despite the fact that the Rift S is a lower resolution and doesn't have the OLED lenses of the Rift (thus the reason for the title of this review), I think it actually looks demonstrably better. The screen door effect is dramatically reduced. I play a lot of different sims (DCS, Prepar3d, Elite Dangerous) and reading the gauges is light years ahead of the Rift. I used to have to lean in quite closely for the gauge text to be legible in Prepar3d or the ball to be seen when landing on a carrier in DCS, but no longer. Everything is much crisper. I also think the headset is more comfortable and easier to adjust than the Rift. I find I can wear it a lot longer than I used to be able to with the Rift. The one downside is that the built-in speakers let in a lot of ambient noise. I found I had to crank the volume to 11 to hear them well. I actually stopped using the built-in speakers and went with my headphones, but they don't fit very well over the Rift S because of the new headset design. I manage, but they aren't as comfortable over my ears as I would like. Something to keep in mind if you are planning on using bigger headphones. Setup is much easier as well. Only having to use one USB port on my computer instead of the four I had to previously is wonderful. Not having to position any sensors and get them all lined up to define the play space meant configuration went a LOT faster. And the controllers are just as finely tuned as the original Rift even though they don't seem as sturdy. Maybe they went with a lighter material or something. They don't feel as if they will break, but they don't feel as hefty as the original controllers. All in all I am extremely pleased with the purchase. The pluses far outweigh the minuses in my opinion and I am really enjoying the better visual clarity and comfort.

Seagate Game Drive Hub for Xbox 8TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive STGG8000400 White
Seagate Game Drive Hub for Xbox 8TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive STGG8000400 White

Pros: - Easy to set up. - Easy to use. - Gobs of space. - Fast. Games load nearly as fast as they do from the internal hard drive.

Cons: - I could complain about it being a different color than my x-box, but nah...

Overall Review: This has been an outstanding edition to my X-Box. I've had it for several months now and it's performed flawlessly. If you are looking for a boatload of space in a nice, easy to use package then you have come to the right place.

Solid Pedals at Nice Price Point

Thrustmaster TFRP Rudder Pedals (PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4)
Thrustmaster TFRP Rudder Pedals (PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4)

Pros: - Very smooth rudder travel on the metal rails. Others have mentioned some stickiness until the pedals have been used for a while, but I've not experienced that. They worked smoothly right out of the box. - The pedal travel is as good as the CH pedals these replaced. It's not quite the same as the travel in a real plane (at least in the 172 I fly), but it doesn't affect the experience. - Was easy to set up. Since I don't have the matching Thrustmaster joystick, it required the use of the included dongle to hook it up to a USB port, but it has worked flawlessly once the drivers were installed. - This is a lightweight setup, but they stick to a carpeted surface quite well. I've used them aggressively from time to time and they stay in place. I have not tried them on wood or tile flooring.

Cons: - Construction seems a bit...plastic-y compared to other Thrustmaster offerings. However, it has not affected use. - Rudder travel can sometimes get very sensitive and requires re-calibrating. Having my plane sometimes careen all over the runway on takeoff or landing is the opposite of fun. - I've also seen other reviews where they feel the pedals are too close together. I measured mine against my old CH pedals and the spacing was exactly the same. So if you are replacing those pedals with these then you won't notice any difference. Mileage may vary for others, however.

Overall Review: I like these pedals. They didn't break the bank and work really well as long as they are calibrated. I trust Thrustmaster to make quality gaming controllers and I'm looking forward to a long useful life with them.

Fantastic Processor - When It's Available

Intel Core i7 8th Gen - Core i7-8700K Coffee Lake 6-Core 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 95W BX80684I78700K Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630

Pros: - Fast as fast can be. - Stable overclocker so far. - Just beastly good for VR when paired with a newer video card.

Cons: - Hard to get. - Doesn't light up or do any neat tricks, which saddens my disco light memory sticks.

Overall Review: This has been a stellar purchase. I went from having to really scale back my VR experience to being able to crank up the settings, get better graphics and still hit 90s consistently on the frame rate. It's been particularly beneficial with the flight sims I play. I have an AIO cooler and I've been able to get solid OC speeds without the temps going haywire. Granted, so far I've just boosted to 4.8, but it handles it very gracefully so I'm looking forward to boosting even more to see what else it can handle. But seeing how stable it is now gives me confidence it can take more. As others have commented, this processor can be very difficult to procure at the moment, and the price point is quite high, but I'm happy with it. It sucks I had to sell the Ferrari, but tots worth it to get this processor!
