Solid OS

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1

Pros: This OS is very cooperative with the newer games and applications. Works flawlessly on the rig I have, and I've yet to experience any of these major problems people seem to whine about. With 4Gb of RAM, you'll be set.

Cons: Initially there was a lot of "This program is attempting to do "such and such," are you sure?" going on during downloads. This seems to be the poster child problem of Vista. Guess what. Push a button, it stops. This isn't even problematic enough to be considered a Con.

Overall Review: Worth the money, very glad I have it. It works, it works well, and that's what matters.

Pre-Order is Late

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Collector's Edition PC Game Edition PC Game BLIZZARD
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Collector's Edition PC Game Edition PC Game BLIZZARD

Pros: It will probably work when I get it.

Cons: The information provided at the pre-order screen said NewEgg would ship the game when they received it. They didn't give a date as to when that was estimated to be, so I assumed it would be a good enough time prior to launch for me to receive the game day of. Har har. NewEgg got the game barely in time, shipped it on the 6th and it's been sitting in Ohio since yesterday morning. I'm in Wisconsin. I could have ordered this through Amzon for the same price and gotten it on the 7th, whereas I'm looking at getting it two or three days after it released.

Overall Review: Won't be pre-ordering games from NewEgg. Going to stick to parts.

Works well for apartment security

D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, Mydlink Enabled
D-Link DCS-930L Cloud Wireless IP Camera, Mydlink Enabled

Pros: Earlier this year I learned that one of the maintenance people for my apartment building had taken a tour of my place without my consent, thanks to the lady across the hall bringing it to my attention. The maintenance guy was fired. However, my landlord still gives master keys to all of his staff which gave me reason to buy myself a network camera. The camera works wonderfully. Framerate is smooth, the picture quality is good enough for what I need it to do and the added ability to access it from any place with an open network (I have an iPod Touch) is an added bonus. I schedule my camera's motion detection to activate during my regular work hours. It was very easy to set up, as well. I've purchased some real stinkers when it comes to network cameras, and this one has had to be the easiest one to set up.

Cons: The only downside I see to the camera is that there is no feature that allows it to record video. If it detects motion, it can send a series of screenshots to your e-mail account - which is great, and I use this. But given that the camera has audio capabilities, I would have loved the extra option to record video and audio.

Overall Review: A fantastic purchase for the price. Very happy with the product, plan on buying a second camera for the other half of my apartment soon.

Fantastic Game

Grand Theft Auto IV PC Game
Grand Theft Auto IV PC Game

Pros: If you have a computer that will run it, this game is beautiful. Infinite draw distance, no load screens, and they physics for each vehicle is as accurate as ever. Forget the generic first-person shooters. This is the first time since Midtown Madness that the PC has gotten a fully multiplayer, free-roaming derby-style driving game and its worth every nickel.

Cons: The only con I can think of is that NewEgg currently doesn't show the system requirements for this game, and they are very high requirements. This game will *NOT* run on single-core processors. It'll eat those chipsets like Doritos.

Overall Review: Unless you're running a very nice quad-core chipset, don't expect to run this on 100% maxed settings. You can if you have a good dual core system, but you'll be sacrificing FPS in a high-speed game. Also, while this runs via Steam, BUY THE HARD COPY. Good Gosh, you might want to start the download now, but I garauntee you will be waiting at least two days for that download to finish, regardless if you have cable. Steam's backed up worse than a septic tank at a Chili Festival right now, so if you're just now considering buying this, either buy it here (nice little discount) or grab it at Wal-Mart/Target/Best Buy.

ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-2014L1T LightScribe Support

Pros: Very impressive little drive, and it comes with LightScribe which is an added bonus. Plays DVDs without a problem, and reads discs faster than I'm used to. Install discs run incredibly fast, so don't plan on leaving them sit while you go off and finish up some at-home projects. This piped in World of Warcraft in under 30 minutes.

Cons: You can definitely hear it working, though the noise isn't much of a con. It runs DVDs quietly, so the only noise you hear is when you're running installations or on the off chance that you're running a program off a disc (fairly uncommon these days).

Overall Review: Good stuff. Might invest in another one for my other rig.

Cue Choir of Angels

SAMSUNG T220 Rose-Black 22" 2ms GTG Touch of Color series Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 20,000:1
SAMSUNG T220 Rose-Black 22" 2ms GTG Touch of Color series Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 20,000:1

Pros: Absolutely stunning display. Runs beautifully at 1680x1050 resolution, and is ideal for any multi-taskers. Not a single dead pixel, and the touch-sensitive on/off switch is a nice feature. It's hard to tell with the photos provided, but the monitor is actually encased in a clear layer of plastic that stands out a few millimeters from the black/red casing. This gives it a frozen-under-ice effect that makes it absolutely beautiful. The piano-finish base is also very nice. Ports for cords are hidden away in a removable back panel. I'm a neat freak, so that's a plus for me.

Cons: The instructions for mounting the monitor onto the base were lacking. I wasn't entirely sure if I had it mounted properly or not. Essentially, you slide the monitor onto a bar of metal projecting out of the separate base.

Overall Review: There is no feeling of "locking in," but the monitor *is* very secure on the base.
