Big Drive, Great price
Pros: Best $/GB on the market at 7200 rpm. $140, free shipping.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: I've noticed that almost every single bad review about DOA or super loudness is from November. Seems Newegg got a bad shipment. I bought mine in march, zero issues. Not noticeably faster or different than any other drive I've had. Except it's ridiculously high capacity of course. My first hitachi, but also have WD and Seagate running right now.
AVOID
Pros: Cheap
Cons: One out of two of these drives arrived DOA. Had a 1.5TB green drive fail just a few days ago after 2 months
Overall Review: Western Digital has fantastic warranty handling. They'll ship you a new one before receiving the bad one. I was very impressed. But you still have to pay return shipping. Buying these drives is like Russian roulette.
Low profile, works well if installed correctly
Pros: - Right Price - "It just works" - Short enough I can easily put my Noctua NH-D14 heatsink above them
Cons: - See "Other"
Overall Review: - Ensure you follow motherboard manufacturer guidelines for installation. I put this in an ASUS Z170-A. The system would initially boot, but only at 2133 MHz. Every time I enabled XMP the system would constantly reboot and hang. - After physically moving the cards from DIMM_A1/B1 to DIMM_A2/B2 (as the user manual for the Z170-A showed) I enabled XMP (just flip the MB switch!) and everything came up great at 3000MHz. Clearly this is on me/the MB, so no eggs off this great memory! MB: ASUS Z170-A CPU: Intel i7-6700k Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 TLDR: If you're having problems with the XMP profile, switch what slot your DIMM(s) are installed in!
