What a great board
Pros: UEFI, dual gigabit lan ports, high-end i7 support, loads of room for overclocking, 8 ram slots, Bluetooth, loads of sata and usb 2&3 ports. easy to set up. EVGA was awesome when I thought I had a bad board due to strange behavior that turned out to be my CoolerMaster V1000. It's just a fantastic board all the way around.
Cons: no 1394. seems odd when there's everything else. I only have a couple of 1394 devices and a card I used from a previous build, but still. I guess it's just not the future. that's really it for cons. it's a great mb.
Overall Review: two things: 1- EVGA support is just the best. it's 24 hour and the techs are friendly and really knowledgeable. they made a frustrating experience from the psu into a much better one. 2-the UEFI is amazing. truly.
wish it'd worked
Pros: truly modular. nice heft. every possible cable with a bag for those you don't need (yet).
Cons: didn't work. I plugged it into my EVGA x79 Dark mb and it wouldn't boot. I could get it to boot if I kept pressing the CMOS reset button... sometimes 3 times sometimes 18 times... but it wouldn't get a chance to store anything to CMOS and the next restart back to button pressing. Thought it was the mb - EVGA swapped it out for me. Still didn't work. Went to store sorta near me (I live in the boonies) and bought a psu for $140 that's only semi-modular but had the benefit of actually working.
Overall Review: I wish it had just not worked. that would have saved me so much time. instead, it just sorta worked which convinced me and the phone tech from EVGA (who are AWESOME) that it was the mb.
Wow - Great Bluetooth
Pros: Tiny. Amazing connectivity. I bought a LG 730 headset to go with my EVGA X79 Dark motherboard since it comes with Bluetooth. So the Bluetooth antenna on the motherboard ends up being on the back and on the bottom. I had heard that the LG headset didn't have great range/connectivity, but wasn't expecting it to be so bad with the motherboard BT. Bought the USB antenna and WOW. No more connection problems with the headset. I can walk all around the house and even outside and get amazing reception. No blips, no static, just great sound. And - the dongle is tiny. I'm using it on my tower so it's basically invisible even on the front but it'd be perfect on a laptop.
Cons: none I can think of.
