Mid range computer with an eye towards the future!

Acer Desktop PC Aspire AM3300-U1332 AMD Phenom II X4 810 6GB DDR3 1TB HDD ATI Radeon HD 3200 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Acer Desktop PC Aspire AM3300-U1332 AMD Phenom II X4 810 6GB DDR3 1TB HDD ATI Radeon HD 3200 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Pros: ~Phenom II X4 (Quad Core), 6GB DDR3 (can be bumped to 16GB), quiet, 1TB HD (nice!), mATX motherboard which supports ATI's Hybrid CrossFireX technology and DirectX 10, as well as HDMI output...very expandable for a smallish MB

Cons: ~No connectivity with Interwebz!...worked long enough to download 32 Win7 updates but then conked. I thought it was my DSL service so I phoned for a housecall from U-Verse support. AT&T Techie came next day because I thought it was my ATT DSL gateway, but after new cords and troubleshooting... looks like bad ethernet...Will get the Acer locally serviced because the hassle of RMA for this is not worth it...explains only 4 eggs. ~Have to burn your own restart disks...Man, even those old Pentium clones had factory restarts included...Why can't we still get a Window disk included?!?

Overall Review: I have always been an AMD guy, from Pentium 1 & 2 clones to my five year old Gateway Athlon 64, which is now growing "long in the tooth". It has had all the upgrades it can muster (max RAM/new power supply/video cards, SB audigy, etc) With the minimal requirements of all the new games coming out, I realized it was time for an upgrade. This system has the ability to expand at least a year or two...It comes with a 300W PSU, so I swapped that out immediately with a Rosewell 530W...ready for the next future ex-video card

Works on my small mATX moboard

XFX Radeon HD 4770 512MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-477A-YDFC
XFX Radeon HD 4770 512MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-477A-YDFC

Pros: Great shoebox-like packaging, came w/ 3pin to 4pin power adapter/DVI-analog plug/HDTV to S-Video Out, exhaust vent out of back good design (but I had extra space) it does take 2 slots...needs 6 pin pwr line w/ at least 450W PSU (I use Rosewell 530W)

Cons: Driver disk would not read, but used ATI site for drivers (which you should do anyway), hang-on-door XTX hotel tag instead of case sticker...;-)

Overall Review: Size of box it came in panicked me, for I only have a mid-tower, but card was nestled inside, which fit my mATX moboard...so it is not so big as it is hefty...don't understand all the fan noise issues...set mine manually to 50% which sounds like low case fan to me, and never heard ramping up or down (steady 40 degrees all day)...PC Gamer 8/09 said 4770 is "best $100 graphic card"...get this for $89 after rebate, and never look back

While it It does charge slowly, it is very convenient to not have to plug/unplug the phone every time and just set it on the pad... Amazed how fast I received this, literally 2 days!
