This Machine's Aight..

ASUS N51 Series 15.6" Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 4GB Memory Windows Vista Home Premium
ASUS N51 Series 15.6" Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 4GB Memory Windows Vista Home Premium

Pros: Pros? Hardware. For the price at the time, I like what it came with. The whole purpose of this purchase came from me coming to terms that I just can't be happy with a netbook as my only computer. I dont know why but I tried. So I bought this machine based on the specs and price. I did splurge and buy an OCZ ssd drive that I installed. I had issues using image software like ghost and spotmau but the Recovery DVD that came with the machine reinstalled the homer version of vista just fine and without the preinstalled load of bloatware that I was greeted by when I first booted this thing up. The Asus Driver CD installed the rest of the hardware and we were good to go. Once I got past my re-imaging issue the whole upgrade process was a cinch.

Cons: As others have stated, it will attract fingerprints. It's gloss reminds me of the HP laptops. Very reflective. They could have left the Altec Lansing name off of the speakers and I would have just thought they were any other laptop speaker - tinny...Also the Asus bloatware and the preinstalled buy me versions of norton and office~ annoying. Cheap accessories which I dont pay attention to (bag mouse..ack!) Focus on the hardware specs that matters...

Overall Review: For what it's worth vista has a "windows experience index" rating system. Overall, this machine with the ssd drive is 5.6 with 5.9 being the highest. It breaks down to the processor and gaming graphics coming in at 5.6 and mem, graphics, and hard drive at 5.9. I can power on and login to vista just under 40 seconds. With the original drive it was just over 60 seconds. I can't wait to upgrade to windows 7 but I'm still mulling if it was worth buying the SSD drive. Anyway, I've decided I'm going to be happy with this purchase. Honestly, for the price this is a versatile computer that can go either 32 or 64bit it comes with a good proc and 4GB of RAM. I'm very confident that this unit will handle all of my multimedia and gaming needs for a long time.

Solid

ASUS 15.6" Intel Core i7-3610QM 8GB Memory Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
ASUS 15.6" Intel Core i7-3610QM 8GB Memory Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Pros: im able to triple boot this machine win7/osx/*nix - rawk the house solid... added hd caddy - substituted 2 ssd drives+16gb of ram. I'm used to my old N series dual core so this I7 is a solid step up for me. I dont have any performance issues so far but I haven't thrown a bunch of instrument plugins at it either but I'm confident this proc and ram can handle it. I plan on using this machine for the next 3 years like I did with my old Asus N series dual core.

Cons: Not really a con because I'm really happy with this laptop but its just fair to mention; This refurb unit as mentioned does not come with the sub woofer which doesn't bother me and my laptop had a slight blemish on the ethernet lip but the ethernet port works fine. no issues it was just cosmetic.

Overall Review: Its a versatile machine that has decent hardware for the price. up 2 you what you want to do with it which is why I love asus. This is my 4th machine from them and they all work.

NIICE!!

37" 720p LCD HDTV
37" 720p LCD HDTV

Pros: This is the first time I hooked up a blue ray player to an HD LCD television. I know this review is supposed to be for this TV but in conjunction with what i hooked up, i was impressed! So I bought a panasonic blue ray player also from new egg and a rosewill hdmi cable. I turned off the lights and I popped in the bbc documentary the planet and I was amazed. Initially, I was half skeptical how much better this setup could be than a regular dvd but it was definitely eye opening for me. When I hooked everything up initially there was bad sound like a busted speaker but i went into the audio settings for the television and hit clear sound and it instantly corrected the sound. The audio and video that this TV puts out is way more than what I was expecting at this price. The remote is quality and doesn't feel cheap. The TV menu is pretty robust full of presets and other advance functions. I'm definitely going to have fun playing with this.

Cons: Haven't found any

Overall Review: I like the fact that it's dual voltage since I work overseas. The unit itself wasnt that heavy but since it's wide screen its in a long box. I picked it up at the APO and it was in it's own tri-wall...Definitely bigger than what I thought. Knowing what I know now, I should have just had this stored at the house, its too nice to be here in the desert!

I love this laptop!!

ASUS N51 Series 15.6" Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 4GB Memory Windows Vista Home Premium

Pros: I wrote a review earlier when i received this machine. After spending 3 months or so with it, I have to say that this machine is awesome! Granted, I added an SSD drive but still the machine smokes. It handles software like ableton and all my instrument plugins well. It certainly runs games like arkham asylum, wolfenstein 2009, crysis with no issues and thats with everything maxed out in the games. All my older games (EA sports, lucas arts, CS, UT) run sick on this machine too. The HD display is awesome. I've gotten a lot of compliments about it.

Cons: Mmm there are some but really any con you can think of is not a reason to NOT buy this machine...

Overall Review: Asus really makes it easy to upgrade and as I've said before the hardware is versatile enough that if I ever chose to go 64, I could do so and I can upgrade the memory to 8GB but since I don't have a reason too, I'm fine where it's at. Overall this is the happiest I've been with a computer EVER and when you work overseas, a laptop like this can serve so many purposes for you in life so thanks Asus for making a great laptop!

Works Fine

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1955 USB 2.0 Hybrid TV Box with Hardware MPEG-2 Encoder (updated version of the 1950)
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1955 USB 2.0 Hybrid TV Box with Hardware MPEG-2 Encoder (updated version of the 1950)

Pros: I can put my laptop to even more use and watch tv on it. This is a must have if you work overseas and you want to keep it light. I had no issues installing the software and I was able to scan for the channel freqs and pick up air brodcasts well. The reception I get is a bit fuzzy but its not due to the equipment more of the shoddy coax and coax connectors they have where I'm working. I personally have not hooked up a SAT box but my coworker at another camp did and the picture quality was excellent.

Cons: I haven't run into any cons yet. I also haven't tried recording anything but my coworker has and he seems to be pleased with it.

Overall Review: It does what it supposed to and plays nicely with vista no issues with any of the components. I didnt try the remote yet but my laptop is right beside my bed so i can reach over and change it easily. I can't complain it works well as advertised.

Great Mobile Solution

MSI Wind U100-016US Black Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 10.0" WSVGA 1GB Memory 120GB HDD NetBook

Pros: its cheap, reliable, very portable, and customizable.

Cons: lid scratches easily and leaves fingerprints...

Overall Review: Yeah I already submitted one review earlier but I just wanted to say that I haven't run into the "tipping" issue on my MSI Wind. I've heard that at other sites and that's not true I can push my screen back and it doesn't start to tip. Another knock I hear is the void warranty deal. Listen, how many times have you called a manufacturer out on their warranty? I can say that I only have when its DOA. I rarely run into equipment crapping out on me and thats because I read up on products before making a decision and if I happen to take a chance and do something stupid i own up to it instead of pushing it on the manufacturer. Finally the touch pad works fine. For me and the acid from my sweaty fingers, over continuous every day use, any touch pad will start to wear out and thats just fair wear and tear. Use your mouse or track ball and save the touch pad for the times you don't have a surface to use...duh. Keep in mind for the price and mobility your getting a great deal.
