Great HD

Hitachi GST Travelstar 7K200 HTS722020K9SA00 (0A50940) 200GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 2.5" Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive
Hitachi GST Travelstar 7K200 HTS722020K9SA00 (0A50940) 200GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 2.5" Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: FAST! This drive was an upgrade over my 160GB 5400rpm 8mb cache that came with my ASUS G1-A1. Load times are ridiculous , and the extra storage space is nice. The new generations of the G1's and G2's already have a 7200 rpm drive in it, and I can see why.

Cons: runs pretty hot. Don't be fooled, if you own a g1 this drive is considerably hotter than the stock HD. I only took a brief look, but there doesnt seem to be any fan cooling for the HD, just a vent at the bottom of the laptop.

Overall Review: Overall, totally worth the money. for anyone that owns a ASUS G1-A1 this drive will help you out immensely. For ASUS users who buy this product, you will want to check out this website first, its a DIY on installing a SATA hitachi drive (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT) l the post you want is siew's 6th post

Great performance for great price

ASUS G Series 15.4" Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2GB Memory DDR2 667 Windows Vista Home Premium G1-AK024C

Pros: First, the look has this carbon fiber quality to it that many people have commented on. It's not flashy like XPS's, so its good for college students and young professionals. I'll never buy a laptop with less than 2 gigs of ram again, the processor is great, and the graphics card plays games better than my desktop. 15.4" screen is the perfect size and quality. This is one of the few laptops by ASUS (and even in its price range) that has 1680x1050 resolution, and trust me its worth it! battery life is good, and Vista supports ReadyBoost, which is a pretty increadable feature, I suggest you look it up...

Cons: Keyboard squeaks a bit, which can get annoying if you're typing at an odd angle. My biggest gripe with this machine is that, for some reason, I can't get Maya 7.0 to work properly on it. When I open graphs or any other maya window, the display windows (front/persp/side/top) go blank until I make a change that effects whatever is inside the view range. This makes tweaking with graphs very hard, and I'm not sure how to solve it...

Overall Review: Overall, I really couldn't ask for a better machine for the price. I got it for gaming/animation and it has worked fine. Great for college students, and I have recommended it to several animators as well. This machine is well worth the price!
