FAILURE x3 (Continued)
Pros: The dives will be great after the bugs get worked out.
Cons: Drive failure; Drive failure; and Drive failure
Overall Review: The drives were tested on several other systems and the computer that I'm typing this review on is the same system that the drives bombed out on. Static precautions were followed. My level of expertise is high. I was a Value added reseller for a major computer company for a number of years. I truly hope they get this issue solved. I have enough confidence in OCZ to try it again, just maybe not for awhile.
Nice small HTPC
Pros: Small, efficient, good graphics (better-quicker than ION systems); sturdy case...... Real nice system when you just need a small system to set next to your TV and media is on a NAS or other network box.
Cons: Fan was VERY noisy; replaced with a Silenx. Painless to change out but $12......... Now quiet as a church mouse......
Overall Review: I have never used it for anything other than playing DVDs; and HiDef Quicktime and iTunes; but for that it has more than enough muscle and is a nice compact solution.
Pros: When and if it works, it is a extremely fast drive. Great responsiveness if the base system is reasonable.
Cons: Three (3) failed drives in two weeks; No support response from OCZ for days when I received an acknowledgment that they received the support request and its been two weeks with no further action on their part. Drive 1- Installed for one (1) day [ Installed OS and many programs worked great ] when it completely died after a day. Bios would not recognize it. I submitted a support request to OCZ. Drive 2 - Newegg replaced the drive a couple of days later. I received a response from OCZ that the had received my support request at approximately the same time. I installed the OS and user programs. Same thing: drive dead after one (1) day. No further response from OCZ. Drive 3 - Another new drive from Newegg again. I installed the OS only this time [ May as well as some time ;-) ] This one did not die completely. It just reverted to a clean state when the system was powered down. No OS; No partitions..... At least the BIOS saw the drive..... Got to try and find something positive in this :
Overall Review: I really wish it was different. I have a lot of respect for OCZ. Newegg has been great thru the trials and tribulations of the fiasco. I cannot believe that they have not pulled these drives until they figure out where the manufacturing problem is or at least made a good faith effort to follow up on support requests. I really had not intended to write a review until I saw Manufactures Response to the last post. OCZ is generally a pretty good company. Maybe they are just overwhelmed by the issue with these drives. Anyway I hope they get it fixed (See Pros)
