SAPPHIRE RADEON 7500LE 64MB AGP 2X/4X Graphics Card X100432001

Comments: I used my Sapphire Radeon 9200 to replace a GeForce 2 so I could have DVI. The Radeon has a noticably clearer image on the monitor, but that is all I have good to say. It crashes when I play any game, including Solitaire. 3D games are out of the question. I had to turn off 3D acceleration completely just to stabalize my system. I visited the Sapphire web site and I have yet to find a support section. The included software does have a report wizard, which apparently only saves an error report to the hard drive. I like ATI, but I will be returning this one and going back to GeForce.

Good for basic network storage

OKGEAR OK350A Series OK350AU2F-K Aluminum 3.5" IDE USB & 1394 External Enclosure
OKGEAR OK350A Series OK350AU2F-K Aluminum 3.5" IDE USB & 1394 External Enclosure

Pros: Looks elegant, feels solid, easy to install, Linux drivers, works good, runs cool when idle

Cons: Does not spin down, no BSD drivers, slow transfer speeds for DivX files in NAS, no automatic update

Overall Review: Made in China, but seems to be good quality, good translation of documentation, apparently software and hardware are from two different companies, so it may be difficult to find to correct updates to download, would give it a 5 if it went into stand-by

Does what it's supposed to do.

LINKSYS NSLU2 Diskless System Network Storage Link for USB2.0 Disk Drives
LINKSYS NSLU2 Diskless System Network Storage Link for USB2.0 Disk Drives

Pros: Easy to use, stable, source code available to users

Cons: Drives not hot swappable, lots of external wires

Overall Review: I had this up and running quickly and easily from my wireless network. Even though the default format uses ext3, I had no trouble reading my USB flash drive with Fat32 format. I love the device, but using two external hard drives leaves power cords and USB cables running everywhere. I was also able to stream MPs's and MPEG4 movies without lag, but full resolution MPEG2 movies couldn't keep up. A faster network would probably solve that problem. My only real complaint is that the drives are not hot swappable, so I have to turn the unit off everytime I start a new drive. I would recommend this device for if you need inexpensive network storage, especially if you already have external drives.

Another hit from Soyo.

SOYO SY-K8USA 754 ULi M1687 ATX AMD Motherboard
SOYO SY-K8USA 754 ULi M1687 ATX AMD Motherboard

Comments: I got this board to step up to 64 bit processing and for other advanced features. I picked Soyo because of previous experience with their products, and my first 64 bit board failed after 3 days(different brand). This one was tricky to install. Components on the board were a little too close to the CPU fan. The #2 RAM slot took an uncomfortable amount of pressure to install the chip, and once installed caused errors at start-up. #3 slot does not recognize PC3200, so I have only one working RAM slot. There are also components that stand off of the board that interfere with the lower 5.25" expansion bays. This may be a problem on smaller than mid tower cases. The Soyo hardware monitor reports the CPU as overheating and the fan not running, but the BIOS reports the temperature and fan speed as Ok. I also had to take the CD drive out of the boot order because it was constantly clicking as though it was trying to access the drive. Once installed it was worth the extra effort. Windows open noticably faster than my Athlon XP 1700+. I chose a slower Athlon 64, so benchmarks are not outstanding. I have not set-up RAID or SATA drives, but so far I am completely happy with my decision to use Soyo. The only suggestion would be that for the price I would have liked to have gotten round cables for the drives. Despite the minor flaws, I would recommend this board.

Comments: I bought this board soon after the Athlon 64 was released and not many boards were available. I chose Asus based on their reputation as a dependable brand. The features were some of the best. The layout of the board was acceptable and it installed easily. I noticed little difference in performance from my Athlon XP, but I was more interested in the advanced technology. On the third day it crashed at start-up and would not load Windows. Starting in DOS and Linux I discovered that the mouse and keyboard no longer worked. According to Asus knowledge base this is apparently a common problem, so I contacted support and never recieved a response. I returned it to New Egg, who allowed me to exchange it for a different brand.
