good drive
Pros: Got two to mirror my media in my home server. Fast enough for media streaming and transfer and very large.
Cons: Some confusion on the AV command subset can lead to misinformation. WD could really do something about it but seems they don't want to.
Overall Review: The AV commands are only used when specifically used by the controller (the controller must specifically send the AV read, etc). Most PC controllers won't use the AV commands so this basically becomes a regular WD Green drive with a 3yr warranty.
it works but...
Pros: Sorta works. Nice and bright blue (might be too bright for some with the 4 LEDs but nothing wire snips or just yanking on the wires can't fix). Moves decent air for being very quiet.
Cons: Smells like burnt electronics and bearing area got very hot after running for about 10 minutes when installed. Even made sure it wasn't wiring. While testing it quickly (for about a minute) it didn't smell like this or feel hot at all. Currently after ~20 minutes the bearing area is holding steady at about 118F according to my infrared thermometer so now I'm going to be blowing in hot air as well.
Overall Review: I'm leary of this fan now but for the price there's no point in returning it. Got it for its slower speed/lower dBA, the ball bearing, and clear plastic w/ blue LEDs to stick on my case's side window to bring in more air w/o noise. After smelling the wonderful burning electronics smell I looked at it with the bearing's cap off (under their sticker). Ran it for about 5 minutes and touched the impeller rod with my pinkie and was too hot to touch it for more than a second (it was off and stopped). Wondering if it was from the LEDs I desoldered their wires but this thing still heats up. I'll probably keep it, however, with this heat it is only a matter of time before either the electronics die or the bearing seizes. (I don't think it'll reach high enough temps to possibly start a fire but haven't ran it long enough to see). Should've just bought the Rosewill. I won't buy anything from IPCQueen ever again and Newegg should look at whether these fans pose any potential hazards.
Pros: It transfers data.
Cons: 90-degree connector could be in wrong position depending on how your drives are mounted in comparison to the controller/board.
Overall Review: I got five of these thinking I would need them but turned out I didn't need more than two. But they work and hold on to the port well.
Pros: It's a 500GB WD BLACK drive.
Cons: Price premium for the black drive is getting a little much, but hard to ding it an egg for the speed and warranty it brings.
Overall Review: Using as the OS drive for my home Windows server. Fast as can be. Would love to mirror these in RAID10, or even just RAID5 with a hardware controller but money goes to capacity than speed. Kinda stinks the only drives with greater than a 3yr warranty are the black or RE drives now, but better than the garbage Seagate makes (i have three Seagates I acquired for free that have almost periodically gained reallocated sectors or worse and FW updates make no difference) .
Pros: Works. Fairly cheap. Runs as specified.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Upgraded an older AM2 system and using this with the 2GB it already had. No problems with compatibility as I put these first since they are slower-timed than the other modules (didn't try the others first as I just wanted them to work). XP 32bit so only getting some of the memory but we all know the limits of 32bit OS's.
Pros: Relatively cheap, fast, 16GB in two sticks. No problems.
Cons: The XMP profiles can be a PITA to work with, so it is better to manually set the memory in the BIOS/UEFI.
Overall Review: Using this in an Asus M5A97TD as a home Windows server. Runs at rated speeds with no issues. Granted I did have to set the BIOS/UEFI for this speed but overall no issues and works great. Got this set so when I might need another 16GB I can fit it no problems.
