Pros: I like the black color and the minimal use of lights on the front. Additional information is available on the LCD display which goes dark when not being accessed.
Setup was fast and straight forward. I didn't use the setup disk, and just accessed the router directly after reaching it through the IP address.
I updated the firmware to the most current rev without any issues. The settings did revert to factory settings after the update so I did have to redo my settings. Not a problem.
We have a two story house and it's installed in the downstairs family room. I get 75% or higher signal strength throughout the house, with no drops or lag.
Overall Review: I bought this to replace a 3 year old D-Link DIR-655 which was giving us daily connection problems. After a week of use I have not had any router issues so I'm sure my old router was the culprit.
Pros: The full front cover makes the unit look very clean and it opens/closes automatically with the DVD tray. It has the extra features we wanted including integrated wireless, DNLA and Netflix. Quick start-up. Intuitive remote control. Easy setup.
Cons: We connect through our DLink wireless router and occasionally it will loss the connection settings. Reconnecting isn't a big deal but we use a network key that has numbers, as well as upper/lower case letters so it takes a little bit of time to enter the key.
I was not able to update the firmware through our wireless network but I was able to do it through the USB.
You can't browse Netflix by movie name, you can only use your queue and pre-selected categories (Sci-Fi, New Release etc). Hopefully this will change in a future firmware update.
Overall Review: We did a lot of research before buying and we are very pleased. It goes without saying that the Blu ray videos look great as do the up converted DVD's. DNLA is very handy and although it's a little slow through the wireless, navigating through pictures and video is easy. We went from Netflix through the Wii (480p) to Netflix through this unit and the difference is amazing!
Pros: Great price, and good length. The next time you place an order with Newegg, order a couple of these just to have on hand.
Overall Review: If you have priced these cables at the big box stores you will understand my suggestion above.
Pros: Works great for a connection between my sons laptop and his LCD monitor. The extra length (.56') made all the difference in the world. A regular 6' cable would have been too short and 8' would have added too much slack.
Overall Review: My sons laptop sits on a slide out platform under the desk and he has an external keyboard on the top. If the cable was a little shorter he would not be able to slide out the platform to unhook the cables gracefully. BTW, if you use HDMI and you are having issues with video quality make sure your drivers are up to date, and check the settings on the graphics card. We had to adjust the card settings to eliminate the black bars on the side that did not show up when connected via VGA.
Pros: Reasonably priced cable that works great. It replaced a standard RCA connection between my plasma TV and receiver. I did not notice a difference in sound quality but I did notice I didn't have to turn up the volume on the receiver as high. My receiver also automatically decoded the signal so I didn't have to fiddle w/ sound fields for it recognize a 5.1 system.
Overall Review: I was trying to make sure the cable did not have a lot of slack when connected so I bought a short one. I was right on the edge, so make sure the length is good for your needs. It's amazing how short 3' is when you accommodate vertical and horizontal space differences in components.
Pros: All research suggests this will be one of the lowest cost color printer options on the market. The physical setup of the printer and the configuraiton through Vista to use it on the LAN was very straightforward. The quality of the output is excellent. The configuration to use it as a wireless printer was straightforward through Windows XP (see note in "Other Thoughts" on wireless through Vista).
Cons: It's a real big printer. Fortunately we have room in our home office but it still stands out. It is farily loud when printing and when it's in standbye it sometimes does some initializing which is pretty loud. It's not loud enough to disturb a phone call but you definitely know it's printing. The utility program to view ink level etc does not run on Vista.
Overall Review: It does not come w/ Vista drivers as they are built into Vista iteself. That said if you want to set it up for wireless printing through Vista you have to visit a web page that they include on a flyer in the manual for instructions. The procedure seemed a little convoluted so I opted to set it up for wireless through XP and then I just connected to it through the Vista computers without any issue.
Pros: I wanted to provide a follow up of my initial review on Feb 8, 2008. The in home service was completed without a flaw with the replacement of the main board. It took about 30 minutes and the remote is now working fine. My boys have gotten used to the minor delay I mentioned when playing Call of Duty 4 and they really like this TV! We are very happy with our purchase.
Overall Review: I asked the service guy about warranty repairs for LG. He said that LG provides good reimbursement to service shops that provide warranty repairs. He said in some cases they provide up to 2x what others cover. This is important to me since I don't want to worry about not receiving good service if a service provider doesn't feel he is getting reimbursed by the manufacturer at a fair rate.
Pros: Newegg's ordering/shipping process was flawless as usual. The TV arrived on the day it was supposed to and by all appearances it was undamaged. The picture quality is amazing for both TV and XBox360. The remote control is laid out well and there are plenty of inputs.
Cons: When playing Call of Duty 4 on the XBox360 there is a noticeable delay when panning the view sideways and up and down. It's enough that it causes problems w/ playing. We haven't tried other games yet. More annoying is that after owning the TV for 24 Hrs the remote control stopped working. After calling LG service we determined it was the TV so they have dispatched their local service provider who will come to our house and replace the main board and/or the IR board. It should be a week before that's done.
Overall Review: I don't want to discourage anyone from this TV and I'm comfortable that the remote issue will be resolved. In fact I was very happy with the LG tech support including the call and the way they dispatched local service. Perhaps the lag in the game is due to the main board as well? I'll write an updated review after the service call.
Pros: The picture is great and I like the aux inputs on the front. If you go around the back of the TV while it's operating you can hear a "buzz" but I have not heard from the front even w/ the sound muted. The speakers are very good as well.
Cons: I wish it had 3 HDMI ports.
Overall Review: I did a lot of research and finalized my choices to a Samsung or Panasonic. I ended up w/ the Panasonic due to a number of positive reviews on this site and others. I am very glad I went w/ the 50" vs. the 42". At first it looked HUGE, but now I'm very comfortable w/ the size!
Pros: Big, inexpensive, and fast drive.
Cons: It's a little bit louder than my Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS but it is not annoying in any way. I can hear the seek mechanism working during writes, and virus scans etc.
Overall Review: I think I'll buy another one of these soon as I am already 1/3 full after only 2 months. Home video editing takes a large amount of space.
Pros: The card is fast, and it works fine in my son's digital camera.
Cons: For some reason this card does not work in my Canon Elura 100 video camera. I can't necessarily blame the card so I didn't let this affect the rating.
Pros: The reader works great and it installed easily. Great price.
Overall Review: I have only tried the SD and the CF slots and they work fine and I assume the others will as well.
Cons: I could not install this device on 3 different computers because the housing is just slightly too large. I tried it on a new build on my APEVIA X-Plorer mid tower, and older Dell 4200, and my son's 1 year old Rosewill case all without luck.
Overall Review: Although it is just slightly too big it would not work and it could not be forced.
Pros: This drive is very quiet and fast. I have had it installed for about 2 months as part of a new build and it's already about 1/2 full w/ video and other media files. Given a choice I may opt for a bigger drive (I can't believe I am saying that about 320GB!)
Pros: Works fine.
Overall Review: I had the issue w/ the drive not working and the light staying on all the time so I flipped the ribbon cable over and the drive now works fine.
Pros: Great performance, and a great price.
Overall Review: This card was part of my original build 2 months ago and it I have had no issues.
Pros: This was my second build and I'm very pleased with this mobo. The build went smooth and best of all the first POST went fine! I did flash the BIOS just to make sure I had the up to date info but it worked fine prior to that as well.
Cons: Apparently the mobo HD connection only works with EIDE drives, not SATA. The case HD light connects fine but the light stays on all the time. In reviewing the ASUS forum this seems to be a functionality issue that is well known. This is not a big issue as my tower is on the floor and I don't see the light anyway, but I do prefer when everything works as it should.
Overall Review: I would recommend this mobo to anyone who wants good performance and a decent price. Great value!
Pros: The case is nice, and offers good airflow. I have 2 big HD's, 2 CD/DVD's, floppy, and a multi-card reader inside and there is plenty of room. LED's on the front look pretty cool. The fans are quiet.
Cons: Although I didn't adjust my rating for these items I wanted to mention them. (1)The top part of the front temp display is hard to read unless you're at eye level because the LED numerals are tucked real close to the top of the display area. (2) You have to remove the R side panel to install the screws for the HD's, there is no pop out frames like I've seen on other cases. (3) The case hardware didn't include enough Mobo stand off screws, it was 3 short.
Overall Review: I would recommend case based on it's quiet performance, nice look, and inside space.
Pros: Great price. No surprises, it worked just fine.
Overall Review: Newegg offers great delivery so it's worth a day or two wait to save money over the purchase of this item at a big box store.
Pros: The cable was priced right, and ultimately it works just fine.
Cons: Before installing it my son noticed one of the pins was out of alignment. After we looked closer we found the outer rim of the connection was bent slightly. It looked like it had been dropped. We fixed it easily by bending both thepin and the rim back in place with needle nose pliers and a small screwdriver.
Overall Review: Check your cable ends before install just to be sure!
Pros: Cable was the right price, and it works just fine.
