Great Enclosure

StarTech.com USB 3.0 eSATA 8-Bay Hot-Swap 2.5/3.5-Inch SATA III Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S358BU33ERM)
StarTech.com USB 3.0 eSATA 8-Bay Hot-Swap 2.5/3.5-Inch SATA III Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S358BU33ERM)

Pros: Works with newest 8TB drives Reasonably quiet USB 3.0 / UASP Trays work with both 2.5" and 3.5" drives Solid construction, good packaging

Cons: None yet

Overall Review: Currently working with 7 drives (4, 6, and 8TB) connected to a Win7 desktop running Stablebit DrivePool with 2x duplication.(HINT: learn to use mount points with so many drives!). Only had it for a couple of days and only using USB connection but operating flawlessly so far.

Unstable w/ WD Red 6TB Drives

IOCrest SI-PEX40064 PCI-Express 2.0 Low Profile Ready SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) Controller Card
IOCrest SI-PEX40064 PCI-Express 2.0 Low Profile Ready SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) Controller Card

Pros: Price, 4 slots, no paying for RAID when you don't need it

Cons: Confusing instructions for WHS 2011 driver install; may have compatibility issues with new 6TB WD Red drives

Overall Review: Bought to expand storage on my WHS 2011, since MB only has 5 SATA slots. Found it to be most stable using WHS 2011 built-in drivers, so no need for the drivers supplied on disk (but that took some trial and error). Works fine with my older 4TB drives, but when I connected two new 6TB WD Red drives, they would simply disappear from Windows after a few hours of use and only show up again after a server reboot. The same 6TB have no problems when connected to the MB controller. I don't know whether I should blame the card or the new HD firmware, but there's some incompatibility.
