ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This is my second review, so that I can share some knowledge obtained after being with this board for a while. 1. Overclocking with this board: the problem lies in the fact that it has overclocking "holes", as in, you might have a certain frequency that does not work and actually OC it to a higher frequency that does work. With me I had a E6750 running at 3.06 Ghz stable, and up to 3.2 unstable. I thought this was my ceiling until one day out of frustration I shot it up to 3.6 to pise it off (I know, its not alive, but it made me feel better); well, it turned out that 3.6 worked! In fact, I was able to run Prime95 and SuperPi simultaneously for 1 hour until sp finished its calculation, and for another 8 hours with P95 running full power until I decided to shut it off with zero errors. Before I had tried in small increments above 3.06 to get as high as possible, all the way up to 3.4 where it would not even boot windows... (continued)

Cons: I never thought that by putting it .2 Ghz higher it would work perfectly! The same goes for the RAM; I have OCZ Reaper ram running at 1ghz with this at 2.1 volts. Though, of course, exorbitant amounts of heat are generated, so put on the largest cpu cooler you can. 1.45 volts on the cpu works for me, though have not tried everything. I tried doing the same thing again in an attempt to get to 4 Ghz, but to no avail, even with 1.55 volts. 2. North Bridge: I do not advice anyone run it without a fan, it gets EXTREMELY HOT in my 70degree room, you need a fan! The small one is really loud, so if possible, do what I did and put a 120mm on top of your bottom mounted (large, like 8800GT) graphics card. This does not work as well as the noise maker, but it is more than good enough and is near silent (my fan puts out around 40 cfm at 12dba). You can also try what I did and replace the stock material on the NB and SB with Arctic Silver, though I do not suggest doing it to the south bridge

Overall Review: it is a big pain in the but taking it off, and it does not even get that hot. While trying to remove it I managed to break one of the screw things, forcing me to use Arctic Silver epoxy to hold it on. The updated Bios will actually cause your computer to boot allot slower (almost 2x in my case with Vista x64), but will make 3.6 Ghz more attainable. Overall I am very happy with this board; it runs fast and is pretty stable. Great price for its technology. If you can make the low $200 area I suggest you go for those, but if not, there is no motherboard better than this one.

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR10664GK

Pros: Looks cool

Cons: BSOD's my computer at rated specs. Even put down to 800Mhz with lesser timings it still crashes. It will only work when I UNDERCLOCK my CPU, and even then my computer every few hours freaks out and eventually BSOD's.

Overall Review: Used with Asus Maximus Formula 2 motherboard and 2.6Ghz conroe processor.

Pros: Excellent cooler. Has a high build quality, looks nice and is sturdy. On my core 2 duo E6750 @3.7 Ghz and 1.58 Vcore, I cannot get it above 50 Celsius in a 75 degree Fahrenheit room. On really hot days with an 85 degree room it does not exceed 56 Celsius. I even did a test once to see how cool I could get it, and with my room at 45 degrees F I got it down to 34 F with no load on the computer. No damage inflicted either! Highly recommended cooler.

Cons: Size and price?

UPDATE-RAM WORKS FINE

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR10664GK

Pros: I messed with the settings some more and decided to set the voltage higher than its meant to be, to 2.3 volts. Every time I go over the limit with other ram, it bsod's, I have even destroyed ram doing this, but I thought why not, its broken anyways. So I did it, and to my amazement it worked! Prime 95 for 15 hours...0 ERRORS. I even managed to OC my cpu a little higher! And this is with the RAM running at 1140Mhz, a nice speed. I guess this RAM needs an overvolt sometimes? Anyways, I hope it lasts without frying itself out due to the high voltage. Highly recommended if you can manage to get it to work.

Cons: None as of now. Overvolt may reduce its lifetime.....

A classic forever

EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 512-P3-N801-AR
EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 512-P3-N801-AR

Pros: I bought this card around a year ago for $300 for my first computer build. This baby has never let me down. From COD4 to Crysis, this game can run EVERYTHING maxed out. Yes, including Crysis! I do not know why ppl cant also do this...every setting maxed out, with anti aliasing off.....very easy, and yet I get around 35fps. And, that is with Vanilla Crysis! B/c Vanilla Crysis will be the hardest to run game for another 2 years b/c of its (crappyy) use of resources, my 8800GT will also last another two years. Why get anything newer! There is no point! This card is all you need. Oh yeah...lol, if you like the graphic on your card, make sure to keep a handle on the heat. The picture of the beautiful gal on my card is now cracked in multiple areas...because of thermal expansion. That's what I get for letting it run at 82C for one year.

Cons: 0

Overall Review: This card represents the heyday of computers. The 8800GT, Core2Duo, DDR2 Ram, SATA....this technology will go down in history forever as being the first to bring the world into the era of true performance gaming and computing. When it is time for this card to retire I will hang it on my wall to remind me of all those wonderful years of gaming with it. Long live the 8800GT.
