Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
pictures dont do it justice12/14/2005 8:33:26 PM

Pros: ecxellent cooling have it on a k8n neo2 platinum with an opteron 148 oc to 2.8ghz idle 35c load 42-45c using g.skill F1 series ram @255mhz fits nicely over memory providing cooling there as well and draws air over back of x800xt oc 535/1140 fan is silent lights are a pleasant blue a little brighter now that im using an adapter to power fan from molex conector and running signal to moterboard sensor have the fans (2 x 120mm) on my thermaltake sviking case on whisper mode sure i turn them up when im playing hard but for the most part i have a silent pc love thermaltake products

Cons: i buy most all of gear at newegg over all you just cant do better for a one stop shop but i thought this cpu fan looked like a cheap knok-off of a zallman from the pictures so i passed it up looking at it on line.. then i saw it in a retail shop and realized this is no immitation its absolutely gorgeous as far as fans go well i paid full price for it and still think i got a great deal

Overall Review: i run my system overclocked 24/7 and rarely shut it off but feel safe shutting my system off even after heavy gaming knowing that its still dissipating heat from the cpu this thing is a heavy monster i wouldnt be surprised if it would work with no fan as far as installation i had no problem but ive modded most evrything i have except my audigy 2zs

as good as it gets12/12/2005 7:00:13 PM

Pros: have this paired up with a opteron 148 sct 939 running stable at 2.75ghz 2.5-3-3-7 1T at a 1:1 ratio if i understand what i was reading that would be 275mhz at 2.7volts not to shabby if im wrong than its even better becuase im only at 250mhz with more headroom to play with

Cons: my motherboard k8n neo2 platinum does not support this memory or any other tccd memory for that matter and i almost put in for an rma but fortunately research is cheaper than shipping and i found a mod bios (wont say which one you have to do your own homework) and i think i just might be able to get 3ghz or better

Pros: runs fantastic at stock speed 2.2ghz 35c have set @2.56ghz 233x11 4xht paired with g.skill F1 series tccd 2x512 @233mhz 2.5-3-3-7 1T system is stable 24/7 at 37c near dead silent with a golden orb cooler in a thermaltake sviking case with fans at low settings

Cons: bought this cpu exclusively for overclocking never read a bad review everyone seems to be able to hit 2.8ghz or better my maximum post so far 2.8ghz 280 x 10 ht x3 but system crashed as soon as i started aquamark my fastest stable speed so far 2.7ghz 270 x 10 ht x3 aquamark score 84280 left memory timings at 200mhz trying to find max fsb of cpu

Overall Review: overclocking is not supported or recommended and i understand there are no guarantees as to how far you can push components im using an older board msi k8n neo 2 platinum I already invested money on x800xt agp so newer motherboard is not an option for me at this time. also you realy need a benchmark to show you if your running faster you really cant tell the difference just bu using the pc

new life for nforce2 system11/14/2005 9:14:18 AM

Comments: i was starting to look at my pc like it was a tired old hound dog ready for that last hunting trip. bought this card for the software bundle my wife was going to pay retail for pinacle 9 so i upgraded from a 9800 pro flashed to 9800 xt with zalman cooler.huge improvement this card rocks able to max out all my games now ut4 1600x1200 4x aa 8x filtering doom 3 1024x768 high detail to bad the game sucks cuz the graphics are sweet. synthetic bechmarks 3dmark 03 stock 11000 oc 12000 3dmark 05 stock5000 oc 6000. remote control is a cool bonus through view is a trip but the guide+ software sucks it was a hassle to connect everything to set up pc as a dvr only to find out satellite programming is not supported you can still take in the signal as a generic channel 3 or 4 and watch it on pc even record it but you cant pre program recording like tivo or change channels from pc maybe a blessing in disguise keep the wife off the pc. like all ati cards this baby runs hot first thing i did was replace stock thermal grease with arctic silver 5 and it still idled at 42 and hit mid 70's at load ati says this is fine but i dont trust it after all their business is selling cards. also this raised the temp inside the case installed arctic cooling ati silencer 1 rev 2 and vantec iceberq ramsinks idle 36 load 61 this cooler exhausts heat out of the case expensive add ons for an expensive card but worth it. quick note on after market cooling i was able to hit 540 core and 580 mem on stock cooling this did not increase on after market cooling but the temps dropped quite a bit. my sweet spot for performance is 525 core 555 mem barton 2500 @ 2.2 xp3200 asusa7n8x-e 2 x 512 geil ddr3200 sb audigy2 zs mitsubishi 21" crt (lcd's look great til u turn them on) klipsch pro media 5.1
