Pros: large display can be seen clearly if viewed from across the room. 12 or 24 hour display.
Cons: there are two problems that i have with the clock. 1. the display has a white background for each of the numbers that are not shown in the photos. it looks like a white 88:88 when turned off. during daylight or a brightly lit room you can't easily tell the time as the white backgrounds show up nearly as brightly as the lighted numbers. 2. it is usb powered, so it has to be close to the computer. it is MUCH easier to tell the time from across the room than when it is close.
Overall Review: this clock needs an a/c power adapter to be useful. if it could be located at least 8-10 feet away it would be a lot better than usb powered on your desktop. the usb cable is too short for optimal placement. otherwise, it is as advertised.
Pros: they seem to help with the glare on my computer's white screens, and when reading books in bright light.
Cons: it took a few days to get used to them. the way they sit on the bridge of my nose puts them too close to my eyes, so my eyelashes rub against the lenses leaving smears on them. i'm going to try to find some kind of pads to lift the nosepiece away from my eyes.
Overall Review: this fixed-frame design would be fine if i bought them in a store where i could try different sizes. the wide nosepiece is really annoying. every time i blink the contact with the lenses distracts me from my work, and i keep having to stop what i'm doing and clean the lenses. someone with a broad nose may not have this problem. i think it would solve the fitting problem if i can find some kind of adhesive pads to put on the glasses.
Pros: i bought two of these and both hard drives have given me no problems so far. i use them for backup storage.
Cons: i haven't encountered any cons yet.
Overall Review: the hdd drives each came with a toshiba 32gb flash drive. i haven't used them yet, but i bought one of these flash drives a couple of years ago from newegg and it worked fine. i use the hdds for long term storage, so they don't get a lot of daily use. i back up everything important on at least two drives of different brands/models so if one goes bad i don't lose the data.
Pros: so far this player is perfect for me. i replaced my older Sony blu-ray player, AND my older media player with this unit. i just wanted it to play blu-ray / dvd discs, along with movie and tv files from a flash drive. it has worked perfetly so far for this. setup is very easy with no problems.
Cons: none, but i don't use it with my internet or network, so can't comment on that.
Overall Review: it's much smaller than my older Sony blu-ray player, but larger than my older media player, and it replaces both. easy to fit in my tv cabinet and eliminates the need for two remotes. I'm storing my older players as back-ups, just in case.
Pros: works well with my JBL Loft 50 tower speakers.
Cons: none so far. Tried it 2.1 with my Loft 50s and then with my Loft 40 bookshelf speakers. plenty of bass for 2 channel. i had to move it around till i found the right location for good sound.
Overall Review: i bought this sub to match my JBL Loft system for a 5.1 secondary system. all i need now is the Loft 20 center speaker. this is the recommended sub for the Loft speakers. i've tested it as a 2.1 system with the Loft 50s and i had to turn the bass down on the sub. sounds good.
Pros: the drive itself works well and has lasted about 2 years with no problems for backup storage.
Cons: i took one look at the sealed, black plastic case and removed the drive (warranty void). it was obvious that the drive would overheat with a plastic case and no ventilation, so i put the drive in a Rosewill external case with a built-in fan. problem solved. my Seagate and WD external 3.5 drives have vents, so i keep a table top fan that blows directly on the vents.
Overall Review: i don't understand Samsung's thinking on this case design. i would be amazed if it didn't fail with no ventilation. worked fine once i replaced the case.
using this drive is much more expensive when you have to replace the case though.
Pros: the speakers appear to be good quality and are very narrow in width (barely wider than the 4 inch front drivers).the sound is good in my smallish master bedroom.
Cons: the packaging is terrible. both speakers are in one large box with foam padding at the top and bottom with a narrow spacer around the middle. the box arrived with 3 large holes all the way through to the speakers and numerous dents. the bottom was crushed looking, like it had been dropped off a number of trucks. except for the top and bottom, there is only the cardboard box and a 2 inch air space between the speakers and the impacts. i was suprised that the speakers themselves weren't damaged.
Overall Review: speaker placement is critical with these speakers largely dut to the side mounted woofers, one on each side at different heights. i moved them around while listening to different types of music until they sounded right. you can't put them too close to anything to the sides, or the bass goes away.
Pros: 2tb, capacity, price, reliability (see other thoughts)
Cons: poor ventilation, external cooling required.
Seagate's idiotic proprietary cable connector. two of the three Seagate 2gb external drives that i own have this horrible connector. i have to pick up the drive and wiggle it around a while on two of them to get the plug to go in.
Overall Review: these drives seem to work reliably IF YOU PUT A SMALL FAN BLOWING DIRECTLY INTO THE BACK VENTS.
look at the drive size when reading a review!
you may notice that the really bad reviews are mostly for the 3 & 4tb models. why does NewEgg put reviews for other size drives with the 2tb models? there is obviously a difference in the reliability of different size drives since they have different hdd's inside..
Pros: it works ok, nothing special. it doesn't look as cheap as the pictures indicate.
Cons: the only thing i didn't like about it is the one-piece front panel with non-removable rack mounts. it won't fit in my stereo cabinet, i had to put it on top of the cabinet. i guess you could cut them off if you have a deft touch. oh well, i can live with the rack mounts for another two weeks.
Overall Review: i bought this preamp to use with my new Sherbourn power amp for one month until i can buy the Emotiva USP-1 preamp. the unit i received is different from the pictures on NewEgg. it is the model SEA-2500X. the main differences are that it has a input selector knob, instead of push buttons, and the colored panels around the front controls are much more subdued in color (dark burgandy instead of purple & very dark blue instead of the bright blue in the pics). i prefer the knob and darker colors that came on my unit. the unit looks much better. the volume knob has indents, but you can set the volume between the indents so not a problem. it would have been a perfect cheapie if it had removable rack mounts. i haven't seen ANY other preamps for any where near 65 dollars. i'll keep it for a small computer room system. well worth the price.
Pros: drive worked fine for 6 months.
Cons: unit stopped working after 6 months.
Overall Review: since i had nothing to lose, i opened the case (a nightmare to open) and put the drive in a Rosewill external hdd case with a fan, and the drive has worked flawlessly for the past year.
bought the unit locally for seventy nine dollars on clearance a year and a half ago.
Pros: inexpensive on the weekend bargain sale. seems well built. the masd-1 micro sd adaptor (required to use micro sd card) is included.
user manual is pdf file on cd (you can buy a printed copy from the website), i just printed the pdf.
Cons: received camera today. first thing read docs & checked website. apparently the replacement rechargable batteries are only available from Olympus at $44.99 each. Manual recommends carrying extra batteries, i don't think so at these prices. camera was on sale for only 15 dollars more than the batteries cost.
Overall Review: camera seems good enough, but i'll probably toss it out when the battery fails, unless i find a much less expensive replacement. i should have checked before purchase. oh well.
