Not for enterprise
Pros: Fast, reliable - overall good hardware
Cons: Absolutely the WORST support imaginable. You cannot get worse than these guys. If the product works for you, great - you will love it. If not, don't even bother trying support - just get a refund. The software is clunky and it does not work properly with Active Directory or with file shares on Windows Server 2003, contrary to what they publish.
Overall Review: If your needs are home-based, such as for a media server or a simple file server, then this product is for you. If you are small biz with domain or AD, look elsewhere. You don't want to be in the mess we are currently in because the software does not work properly.
Decent product, bad firmware, bad support
Pros: Good storage, good speed, great form factor
Cons: Unbelievably bad support, poor gui interface, limited built-in tape drive support, Firmware glitches, a lot of security right issues for admins if using in a domain environment
Overall Review: For a simple small biz central file backup, it might not be bad. However, we were using this in a small biz with AD as a central repository and we need to back it up weekly. The interface to join the domain was clunky at best, and security is not propagated correctly, nor do you have the ability to tweak settings. The admin could not browse all the shares - only the individual users could see their own shares. You might think this is security by design, which really does not make sense and NetGear claims it is not, but the real trouble comes in if you want to back up these files. Since admins do not have access to all the files, the admin account that runs the backup cannot back up the files! Three months of dealing with the techs at NetGear has resulted in nothing except that I will probably have to scrap this purchase and get something else. If you are in AD or are in a domain - stay away. Otherwise, it is a pretty nice unit.
