Drive Size Clarification
Pros: Fast and cheap with promo and MIR. I haven't had it long enough to run it through its paces. Mainly posting at this time for the sake of "Other thoughts" below.
Cons: Minor manufacturing defect on mine but nothing major. The aluminum plate on the top was a bit loose and popped when pressed. Nothing to cry about.
Overall Review: Gotta love reviewers on here rating themselves as having high tech knowledge and then complaining about the drive not being the claimed 120GB. I see it on nearly every drive on here and it annoys me. Here's a little lesson. Drive size is stated by mfgrs on a metric scale (orders of 10^3=1000) instead of binary (2^10=1024). Thus...120GB->120,000,000,000 bytes which correctly divided by 1024^3 = 111.7587GB (the number you actually see reported). Don't blame the drives. This method is nothing new and has actually been used for a LONG time. The more you know...
Too light for a Paperweight
Pros: Again...Small size, large capacity, very sturdy design
Cons: None of them seem to work. I RMA'ed my first one within 5 minutes. Then after paying shipping back and getting a new one, it's failed after 2 weeks. I really love this design as it's exactly what I was looking for size and capacity-wise. But now I'm having to RMA again. Is there some sort of Lemon Law for things like this?
Overall Review: Wish it still worked.
Great so far...
Pros: Fast Good Range Lots of features
Cons: None as of yet
Overall Review: I replaced my Netgear WNR854T Gigabit Edition router with this one. It has, so far, been the right move. The Netgear kept requiring a reboot every few days. Also, the signal is much clearer from my living room (I'm attributing this to the external antennae vs the internal antennae). At the same location my Netgear previously got 47% signal quality, I'm not getting 87%. I have a WRT150N in my living room running DD-WRT and acting as a client bridge. It works terrific. Before with the Netgear, I took a few seconds to "open" and "load" videos when streaming from my bedroom. Now they start playing immediately. So far, this router is tops on my list (specially in the price range).
Wonderful for about 5 minutes
Pros: Size (physical and capacity)
Cons: Quit working after 5 minutes
Overall Review: As soon as I opened it, I was amazed at the size. However, it seems the size may have been it's downfall. It seems that when I started imaging my old flash drive onto this one, it got "overwhelmed" by the size of the transfer. It was a little warm to the touch but the point is that about 3 minutes into that transfer, an error popped up saying the drive was no longer accessible. A series of rebooting and replugging the device did nothing but lock up my computer repeatedly. I had to revert back to a prior restore point because somehow it dying messed up it's USB driver. After it died, I tried it on several other computers to confirm it's death and none of them recognized it (linux or XP). RMA within 1 hour of arrival. That's not something you like to hear. It's complete cr@p that I now have to pay shipping back for something that was flawed to begin with. Wonder how much this little thing will end up costing me at the end of this.
Pros: This is by far the best media that I have used. I have gone through nearly every brand that is sold ever since my first 2x cd burner. I read up on how these disks are made and about how the specific G05 dye that is used is rated the very best so far as compatability. A few major companies used this same dye b/c they know it's great success rate. I just want to tell future buyers of this product not to be discouraged by the negative reviews listed by others about this media. The fact is that some burners just don't like some types of media and will not burn to them. Some times you just have to try different types until you find one that works. But I would definately recommend to anyone that they try these first and see if they work b/c they are definatley the best out there right now. Personally, I have gone through 4 spindles of 100 and nearly 8 spindles of 50 with only a few coasters and those were my fault.
Cons: ABSOLUTELY none WHATSOEVER!!!!!!! Just try them with your burner and see.
Overall Review: I just wanted to finish my statements on the Pros. I just wanted people to look out for this new Ridata Datawrite line that they are putting the new F1 dye on. It is supposed to be as compatible if not more than the GO5 dye. Just check them out.
