5+ Years & Still Going Strong

Acer P235Hbmid Black 23" 5ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 50000:1(ACM) Built-in Speakers
Acer P235Hbmid Black 23" 5ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 50000:1(ACM) Built-in Speakers

Pros: I bought this monitor over five years ago and have used it daily ever since. To this day it works just fine and has no dead pixels or issues of any kind. This monitor has exceeded my every expectation and then some.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Overall Review: Given that this model has been out for so long now, I don't expect that anyone will be buying it. I doubt anyone will even see this review. But out of respect for the manufacturer, I just had to post this. This is one hell of a monitor.

Occasional problems...

G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT
G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT

Pros: In the time I've had these sticks (over a year) I've had six or eight BSOD's due to memory errors. This isn't a hugely big deal, but it's enough that I would avoid buying this particular memory again in the future.

Cons: occasional ram-related bsod.

So very, very disappointed.

ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: It's a very attractive board, and I love that it is a true ATX sized board (9-screw holes).

Cons: With the Asus Z97-A board, I never even got started with trying to overclock it, because there were so many other quirks that I couldn't get past. The DVI graphics port suddenly stopped sending anything to the monitor for some reason, so I had to pull another monitor out of the closet with a VGA connector and hook that up in order to keep working with it. Later on the DVI port miraculously decided to start working again. Whenever I tried to insert my wireless adapter card, I'd quickly get a bsod. I tried everything to work around that in order to get my wireless going, but it just wasn't going to happen. Interestingly enough, it's an Asus brand b/g/n wireless adapter, and yet, it won't work with the Asus Z97-A board. I've previously used the adapter on another system with an Asus M5A97-LE R20 board and never had any problems. I was unable to connect my external hard drive, because whenever I did, it might access it ok at first, but when I would restart, the system would stutter and hang and freeze, and sometimes blue screen. I went into the bios and checked and double checked and triple checked to be positive that nothing in the boot priority and hard drive sequence was causing a problem. I had the external drive basically disable everywhere in bios. It didn't matter though. The computer just went crazy whenever I connected the external drive. I updated the board with every relevant driver from the Asus website. I flashed the bios and pretty much everything that I could do. I even did a complete reformat, again, to try and see if there was anything I could do to try and straighten it out. I eventually called Asus tech support and was on there with someone for nearly an hour. While going through some steps he led me through, I uninstalled the USB driver... and on rebooting, the computer would not install anything to get the keyboard and mouse going again. I had to go rummage around in my parts and find an old mouse with a PS/2 connector that the board would recognize in order to continue working on it. It was just a major pain in the neck in every regard.

Overall Review: I really, really, really wanted to get this Asus board straightened out. I've had good luck with the brand in the past, and I was excited to get started on using their new overclocking tools which are supposed to make OC'n a breeze. Ugh... SO disappointing. I have RMA'd the board already and am currently deciding what else to order.

Becomes noisy in under a year

Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92 - 92mm Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler Fan
Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92 - 92mm Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler Fan

Pros: Looks and cools good.

Cons: This is the second cooler of this design that I've bought. Both have become very noisy in 8 months to a year. The first time I thought it was just a fluke, but now that this has happened twice, with two different coolers, I won't be burned a third time. I will never buy another cooler fan of this design.

Great while it lasts

Philips Sonicare Xtreme 3000 Battery Sonic Toothbrush
Philips Sonicare Xtreme 3000 Battery Sonic Toothbrush

Pros: Cleans your teeth and tongue very well.

Cons: They don't seem to last more than five or six months before going bad. I've been through two of them so far. I'm shopping now for something different.

Excellent

ASRock N68-S AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7025 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock N68-S AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7025 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Excellent all around. The layout of the board is terrific, especially with the sata connectors as they are appropriately placed in order that they will not be hogged over by a large graphics card (such as with some other inexpensive mobo's I've tried). The website is excellent, everything is there and it's easy to find what you need.

Cons: Absolutely none!

Overall Review: If you need an inexpensive board that does the job and does it well, and which doesn't make you feel like an idiot for buying a less expensive board... this is the one. Buy it!!
