Pros: - easy installation with template
- not as heavy as it looks
Cons: - Wish it had banana or spade connectors instead of the spring load
Overall Review: Completed my 7.2.2 HT system. Thinking about getting another pair to have my system go to 7.2.4
Pros: You get what you pay for. If you looking for just a case that will not be moved around and wanting something cheap, yes this is a nice case. I like the extended case and allows for room between the hard drive cage and motherboard.
Cons: - very flimsy sheets of metal, dont press down on anything because it will bend especially the top cover and front 120mm fan bracket
- little screws easily strip
- middle/ stability bar with extensions to hold down inserted cards is pretty much useless and does not reach lower height cards
Overall Review: In spite of the cons, I decided to get a 2nd one because I didnt want to blow $$$ on something that will never move and does the job for housing my server components/
Pros: -Got tired of unreliable connection and weird background noises and decided to try this. Very happy. There is a lot of information and some old that I was not sure if it was still valid. So to confirm : Yes by default if you follow the installation steps which are very easy, you can setup this Obi to make outgoing calls using Google Voice. If you want to see a caller id and/or receive calls, your Google Voice must be associated with an existing landline or other #
Cons: None so far.
Pros: Perfect for my servers. Very high CFM and keeps all my hard drives in every server around 28C.
Cons: Not really a con to me since I was expecting it to be loud but its in my server rack and that deadens the sound a little.
Pros: easily replaced my SB6141
increased my download speeds of 150mb to 180mb
no rental fees from Comcast
Cons: Docsis 3.1 on horizon. Had to call into Comcast to activate modem - what a PITA.
Pros: Light and small is what we were looking for to replace a 15.6" Acer laptop. Touch screen is quite responsive and pairs well with Windows 8. Hard drive was replaced with a 180GB Mushkin ssd and I had to strip the ssd out of chassis to install it, so look for 7" ssd drives. The 24GB ssd pre-installed is used for RST and expresscache which is not needed if you have SSD as a main drive so I cleared the partitions and used it as a temp drive for temp folders, page file etc.
Easy to install another 4GB of DDR3 memory.
Easy to upgrade to Windows 8;l via store
Make sure you put away the hard drive and copy the Support folder for all drivers. Or just download them all from Asus website which is even better so you can pick and choose what drivers to install. Using the exe in the Support folder installs EVERYTHING you see when turning on laptop first time.
Very quick boot times and wake up from sleep.
Cons: Fingerprints everywhere.
New bios makes it hard to figure out how to boot off USB thumb drive to reinstall Win8 - disable secure boot and enable "load cm" or something to that effect. New bios is out so upgrade that too.
I have not found a way to create recovery dvd/cd but I dont plan to use the hard drive so it should be ok.
Overall Review: Very good deal at BF price and not bad at listed price of $479. Thinking of getting another one.
I wish there were more ultrabooks at this price with more competitive features.
Pros: Black and sleek
Cons: Every few weeks I have noticed when connecting to my AC66 it shows a webpage to upload new firmware. I am unable to get beyond this page. The only way around it is to reset the factory settings. I am able to go back in and fill in all settings. after that. This has happened 3 times now and again last night. I noticed a new firmware version and applied it, lets see how long this lasts.
Overall Review: Asus makes great pc components but time and time again, they have failed with the firmware on their wireless products. I wonder if there is a "tomato" equivalent for this product.....
Pros: Very fast. Fits and works perfectly in my Acer M5-481TG "ultrabook".
Cons: none, wish they were cheaper.
Pros: Light, small, nice keyboard layout and yet surprisingly spacious if you open it up. I replaced the msata with a Crucial msata 128gb and the hard drive with a Samsung 840 250gb. Your ssd or hard drive has to be 7mm otherwise it will not fit. Pity I can't use my Vertex 4 due to height.
Did a fresh install of Windows 7 HP using the existing key. Samsung 840 is boot drive and msata is split 100GB for temp files and the rest partitioned for deep sleep/RST.
Upgraded bios but did not notice any new options.
Playing SC2 yeilds about 72C and once you quit the game it drops down quickly. Fan noise during gameplay can be loud.
Cons: I cannot find a way to keep my keyboard backlight turned off permanently. When it comes out of sleep or is powered on the light comes on. Yes I know Fn+F9 turns it off but there has to be a way to turn it off permanently.
Black border/empty space around the screen is distracting.
The trackpad/mouse takes getting use to.
Overall Review: I always liked all my ports on the back of my laptop for clean look and more desk space but I have to admit that the sides could have had one usb port. Right angle power connector is too close to the other ports on the back.
Pros: Follow up to my review, below. Updated to ICS and its very smooth. Update was very simple but dont expect the flash to work like any other Android tablet. You need to hold down buttons and press one of them 10 times while connected via usb to your pc. Google is your friend.
2nd tablet arrived and also has ICS after I upgraded it.
Wifi works great and have strong signal throughout house.
Can be charged via USB cable connected to PC.
Glad to see the official ICS rom from Ivew is stock Anddroid and no interface layers like those found in Acer, so ther is no junk to purge.
AC power adapter is fairly long unlike Asus which is so short.
Cons: When powering up tablet, you can tell its a litlle sluggish but after that its ok unless you doing a lot of things on it.
When I bought my 2nd tablet, priced dropped a few bucks...argh!!!
Overall Review: Keep it up Iview....hope to see more from you.
Pros: Plenty of space. Prefer this to my bigger haf932 case.
Cons: dust magnet due to plenty of air vents. Fans can also easily be heard...thank goodness for water cooling and fan controllers
Overall Review: Wish they offered front panel usb3 upgrades even if they charged a little for it.
Pros: Sitting next to my HANNS-G HZ251 24.5", this towers it. Was not expecting it to be so high. No dead pixels.
Came with lots of cable optiions. Colors are good. Stand is stable.
Bought as black friday deal for $225...what a bargain.
Overall Review: wish i had 2 more of these for eyefinity
Pros: Probably the most easiest product i have ever installed. Downloaded the install code , followed the 13 page instructions and everything worked just fine. Works as advertised..cannot wait for my 1 year tivo subscription to end so I can get another Ceton card.
Windows 8 will continue to support MCE - this was important for me, plan to keep this solution for as long as I can. Does not need a powerful machine - currently installed with AMD 840 cpu and onboard amd graphics, 8gb memory and several hard drives with a 2tb being used for recording tv.
Cons: Price. Initial outlay is high. Thank goodness I picked this up for $213 during black friday. Will need to get several xbox 360 4gb consoles for all our lcd screens. This way family members have uniform experience and will not need to adjust between, tivo, comcast horrible menus from the sixties.
Overall Review: Would like to get another Ceton card/usb.
Windows MCE plugins are available...just google. Wish MCE was more customizable.
Pros: Replaced a gigabyte 4850 that had been rma'ed 2 times !!!!!!! quiet and does not need pci express power. does not take up 2 slots, small size.
Cons: if a con, Win7 WEi says its only a 7.0....the 4850 it replaced was 7.4...but meh...its for my 11 yeard old
Overall Review: XFX, I only buy XFX video cards !!!!
Pros: used in my tivo premiere, very quiet and works great.
Cons: newegg has had a ton od DOA drives and I mean a ton of them....look at the reviews. No surprise because they pack everything in that brown paper cr*p.
Overall Review: I see newegg has started shipping drives in boxes now due to all the doa's - about time.....brown paper junk can only do so much and bring back peanuts for the love of everything that is techie !
Pros: it just works :) No BSOD, most of the onboard stuff was detected by clean install of Win7. Not too many frills but thats why I bought it. My X4 555 flies and after multiplier change is faster than the X4 980
Cons: Could have been cheaper, PS/2 and com port in this day and age ?
Overall Review: Hope this board works with future Bulldozer cpu's - this was the only reason I bought this 970 boards versus the older 870/880
Pros: Very cheap and highly overclockable by just changing the multiplier. Mine is now faster than even the top end 980. I have i3 2105, x4 965 and i7 2330qm and i really dont feel or see much speed loss if any when using this cpu.
Cons: Outdated whenever Bulldozer arrives, can get a little warm but I have this on a Corsair H50 and temps are around 32C idle.
Overall Review: Not much difference between this and the i3 2105 or i5 in terms of look and feel wrt speed
Pros: Super fast and i mean super duper fast. No issues at all. Wish I could afford more of these. Stable, no bsods or anything I have seen other people having with similar chipsets.
Cons: none whats soever except price is a bit high
Pros: Bought this the other weekend for $700 or so. Quad cpu is impressively fast. Very light chassis. Huge keys, I dont have small or fat fingers but i heave to reach out further to hit the keys. Keys and touchpad buttons are easy to press.
Very good power management and fans remain very quiet even under full load without a cooler and fan.
Camera is fine for Skyping. Sound is ok for just playing games or what not.
This laptop is NOT affected by intels recall - based on the tool I ran.
Cons: 4gb ram and 500gb 5400rpm drive setup was ho hum, so I upgraded to 8gb and 500GB 7200rpm. No enough ports, with for more usb and expresscard slot. Bezel around screen is dirt and finger magnet -when will they learn???
Position of power connecter could be move to the back as well as some other ports.
No accessories or mention of this on acers website. Looking to remove dvd rom drive and add hard drive ...any ideas?
newegg and their brown paper stuff - laptop arrived at bottom of it so i don't see the point of it. bring back peanuts !!!!!!!!! Most of my stuff arrives at the bottom - just a doa waiting to happen.
Overall Review: Without using the cooler and fans underneath laptop my GT540M got to around 77C. Thats not bad at all. Plays SC2 on High. have it connected to a 25" 1080p and it runs true 1080p just fine. Colors seem a little washed out though.
After making sure it was not doa I burnt the recovery disks and app disk then did a fresh install of win7 using the same keys. Also updated BIOS and nvidia drivers. Watch out for that constant flashing drive light - intel RST is to blame for it, no way around it but to not use the tool. Stock drivers from Intels chipset driver work just fine. try to reinstall all drivers without running their respective setup.exe, you will save yourself about 300mb of memory each time it gets turned on.
Next step it to disassemble and add real thermal paste to cpu and video.
Little matchbox bay on the bottom(underneath) is empty - what is it for? Nothing inside nor are there any connectors.
Pros: it works...lol..good pricing from newegg and quick shipping
Overall Review: still not happy with the brown paper stuff used in shipping, most of the my items arrive at the bottom anyways....just a a matter of time before something arrived DOA
Pros: Screams lightning fast... can feel the difference in terms of files loading and response of laptop.
Cons: gets warm, but thats the nature of the beast
Overall Review: would like to see SSD drives drop before I go all SSD.
Pros: 2 x adjustable fans
Cons: no usb ports on chassis neither a 2.5" drive for expansion but I knew this all before i bought, just wish it came with it.
Overall Review: I bought this about a year or two back and forgot how loud the fans were....looking for something else
Pros: Just bought the kids an xbox 360 and this game. Graphics is good - really like the co-op features.
Cons: add ons Microsoft sells to equip you with better guns etc can be quite costly.
Overall Review: I should have bought an xbox 2 years ago instead of the PS/3, which i sold anyway.
Pros: Charges controller without issues
Pros: This is a follow up to my last post a few entires below this. I metioned usb ports on the mobo are causing the front panel i/o connectors to reset/freeze the system. IApart from installing MSI and Abit in the same case I recently bought from newegg a Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H and can say without a doubt that this AAsus mobo has some usb/grounding/electrical issue of some sort, because evry other mobo from other makes I put in since i purchased this Asus has NOT had the front panel/usb issue
Cons: I opened a ticket and Asus never replied....typical.What has become of Asus ???? they were rock solid...I have never had ANY product fail on me in such a miserable way. First their 802/11 wireless router (RT-NT16) with hopeless firmware and now a mobo that cannot utilize its usb connectors
Overall Review: Asus mobo v1.01G I believe and bios 1703....stay aware from.
Newegg - stop shipping items in that brown paper cr@p...everything arrives at the bottom of the box. Never had that problem with peanuts.
