D.O.A. + OCZ RMA took forever!4/4/2012 8:18:03 PM

Pros: [1] I like the modular power supply concept. Using only the cables you need is a good idea & it reduces clutter caused by unused cables. [2] The replacement power suppy worked!

Cons: [1]The motherboard main power cable & PCI-E cables have capacitors installed at the connector (not the power supply end) & are covered with stiff shrink tubing, which made the installation overly difficult... a real pain! [2] There was a very LOUD "pop", on the first power up!? The computer was dead, with the smell of something electrical burning. We reinstalled the original power supply, a Sliencer 750 Quad, & the computer operated normally. [3] The RMA thru OCZ support was a major hassle... lots of back & forth before OCZ support would authorize an RMA number so the defective power supply could be sent to them. The entire OCZ RMA process took nearly a month! [4] Due to the length of time all this took, we missed out on the OCZ rebate, plus add another $15 out of our pocket for the shipping back to OCZ. Yes, the return RMA shipping is paid by the sender... YOU! This has now become the most expensive power supply I've ever puchased!

Overall Review: I've built more computers than I can remember & I've never had a power supply blow up on the first power up. This experience made powering up the replacement power supply VERY spooky! I can't recommend this power supply & if I had it to do again, I'd go with a different brand.

Not perfect, but I'd buy another one!10/15/2010 7:49:02 PM

Pros: I required a case that would accept a full size motherboard, with a small footprint (front to back) & this case was exactly what I was looking for! The lockable case only requires 2 thumb nuts to be removed to open it up. the chassis edges are rolled with very few sharp edges. Antec provided a power cord & lots of mounting hardware. Lots of room for cable routing & storage. The power & HDD activity LEDs are blue. The 2 front mounted USB ports are nice. There's also a front mounted mic & speaker jack.

Cons: The case front is a rough textured plastic & it scuffs too easily. The HDD activity LED is too small, difficult to see & I really don't care for the blue color. The case locking loop is too small for a standard size padlock. Don't pass up this case for thease minor issues. In my opinion, it's a top notch case!

Overall Review: I really don't care for the black color front, since my external drives are white or a light color... still... I'm getting used to it. I finally got tired of the "tiny" HDD activity LED, so I drilled it out & replaced it with a small yellow LED. Much better! I guess the grommet mounting for the HDD is a plus, but I've never had an issue with HDD noise?

Some issues, but I'd buy another one!9/18/2010 11:27:33 AM

Pros: (1) Solid metal case, just the front is plastic! (2) Fan cooling & the fan is very quiet. (3) The price is reasonable. 4 eggs for this review, since there were some issues. :)

Cons: (1) No instructions are provided, but most would do fine without any. (2) The front mounted LED is blue is for power on only & is very bright! (3) No drive activity LED is provided. (4) The mounting position for the hard disk drive is too close to the back & makes attaching/disconnecting the cables difficuilt. It was easy to lenghten the screw mounting slot to allow mouting the hard disk drive towards the front of the case. (5) The power supply is poorly assemblied. The thermo compund for the regulator was dried out, pretty much powder & useless, so I had to clean it off & apply some that I had on hand. (6) The bottom of the power supply circuit board is protected with 2 layers of plastic insulation. The top has only one thin layer. Much too thin, in my opinion, to prevent the circuit board from punching thru to the case cover. I replaced it with some thicker plastic that I had on hand. (7) The power cord & the USB cord are on the short side, not the standard length.

Overall Review: I bought this device to test & remove malware & viruses from hard disk drives. Other than the issues noted above, I like this device & I'd buy another one.

Need more storage? Get a MAGNUM!4/16/2009 7:56:55 PM

Pros: Free shipping & $25 mail in rebate. Very good performance. Attractive & sturdy design. Solid Small portable storage device that easily fits into your pocket & offers a huge amount of storage capacity. It comes with a USB extension cable & a neck lanyard.

Cons: The price will sting, but the $25 mail in rebate helps. It's WIDE, so you may need to use the provided USB extension cable. The snap on cap feels tight now, but I suspect it will get loose.

Overall Review: The extruded aluminum case feels as nice as it looks! I've been very happy with Patriot memory, so I'm sure the MAGNUM will serve me well.

Very Nice Monitor!4/10/2009 8:47:27 PM

Pros: This completes our Ultimate Gaming Computer! With its sleek modern looks, it's atreat to look at. This monitor replaced our 19" ViewSonic monitor & this one feels so much bigger, due to the 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen). It works perfectly with our 2 EVGA GeForce GTX 280 SLI linked video cards. No problems running at 120Hz with Windows XP. My son says the on-line gaming is amazing!

Cons: Shiny surfaces show dust & finger prints. The pedestal is too skinny, so any table movement causes the screen to shake. It's hard to hide the rear cables with the skinny pedestal. I used some split tubing to hide the cables. No on screen display of volume or screen brightness, only the blue power LED flashes. Kinda hard to see where the setting is without the on screen display.

Overall Review: The monitor was shipped in the factory box. It wasn't even sealed, just a shipping sticker slapped on the side. Luckily, I was home, since UPS would have left it on the porch for anyone to take! Hence the reason for 4 & not 5 eggs.

Very nice, but kinda big...4/6/2009 8:16:56 AM

Pros: The Patriot XT 8GB is encased in a rubberized material, so it's well protected. It comes with an USB extension cable & neck lanyard. A very nice touch that most USB drives omit. To sweeten the deal even more, you get a $5 mail in rebate. Of course the USB drive works perfectly.

Cons: I have to admit I was suprised how large the Patriot XT 8GB is. I suspect the USB extension cable is for places the drive wouldn't fit, due to its size. I have the Mini 8GB & it's at least 2 times smaller.

Overall Review: It might be a tight fit if you're using 2 USB ports that are close together.

Surprised it wasn't DOA!2/22/2009 10:09:49 PM

Pros: I needed a larger drive to store my MP3's on & this was the one that I narrowed my selection to. It's an OEM drive, but not a problem, since I only needed the drive. Set up was a cinch & it was it worked perfectly

Cons: This is the third Western Digital drive I've purchased this year & the protective packaging, in my opinion, was "very poor". The bare (static bagged) drive was wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap & tossed in the bottom of a box with a hand full of shipping popcorn tossed in. The drive had been bouncing around the bottom of the shipping box. I have to give a thumbs up to Western Digital for making a hard disk drive that can take this kind of treatment & still work perfectly! Still, I could have received a DOA, so minus one egg for poor quality shipping of fragile electronics.

Overall Review: I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Western Digital hard disk drive.

Like it, but...2/17/2009 4:15:34 PM

Pros: This is a nice looking motherboard & it fit nicely into our Enlight ATX desktop case. Rear external BIOS reset button is very handy if the system locks up on wrong settings. This MB is a overclockers dream, with lots of BIOS options for those that like to push the envelope!

Cons: No floppy disk drive support... really would have been helpful installing our earlier version of Windows XP! No parallel printer port. No PS2 mouse port. The on board USB & case LED/switch headers are in the worse possible place! This was a major head when we installed a second EVGA 280 video card. I'd love to go 3 SLI cards, but using PCIE slot 2 would make the on board USB headers inaccessible & we need them for front mounted devices. The BIOS was several versions behind, but easy to update.

Overall Review: EVGA technical support always prompt to reply, but not always with a solution...:(

I'm surprised they worked!2/5/2009 2:08:10 PM

Pros: These are OEM hard disk drives, which means all you get is a hard disk drive in a bag & nothing more. No problem, since this saves you moola. Any installation instructions or software can be found on the Western Digital website. We bought 2 of these for our "Ultimate Gaming" computer build. The drives were flawless & are working perfectly.

Cons: As I stated in my title, I really didn't think these drives would work. They were packaged so poorly. They were wraped in thin bubble wrap & tossed into a box with shipping "popcorn". The drives had been flopping around the box hitting the sides & each other. These must be very well built drives to take that type of handling & still function flawlessly!

Overall Review: I would not hesitate to purchase more of these hard disk drives! 4 eggs for poor shipping/handling for fragile electronic devices.

Won't work with our motherboad!2/5/2009 1:52:24 PM

Pros: As part of our gaming computer upgrade we selected an EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard. We didn't realize until it was to late (no return on the MB), that this motherboard doesn't support a floppy disk drive. To compensate for this deficiency, we purchased the SIIG JU-91RB12-S5 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Card Reader /W FDD. This device had a floppy drive & memory card readers, all in one!

Cons: Here's the problem. The SIIG JU-91RB12-S5 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Card Reader /W FDD does have a floppy disk drive, but it "not" USB! The memory card readers are USB, but the floppy disk drive requires a motherboard that supports a floppy disk drive!

Overall Review: Other Thoughts: I'm giving 3 eggs, since deep in the System Requirements, it kinda sorta says the floppy disk needs a connection to the motherboard. IMO, this should be spelled out in the Overview! READ "System Requirement: Feature", before you buy so you know what's required to support this device! On the positive side, Newegg did give me a full refund, so I'm only out the shipping. Thank you!:)

WOW!2/3/2009 9:48:12 PM

Pros: Free shipping & a free game! Cutting edge technology. Comes with a huge heatsink, but the stuff they use to conduct the heat (heatsink compound) is garbage. We scraped it off & used ZALMAN ZM - STG1 Thermal Compound (good stuff!). We didn't want to take a chance on a failure caused by poor cooling. On the positive side, the copper & aluminum heatsink is all you'll need. This processor runs very cool, 26-36C.

Cons: On the expensive side, but that's to be expected. The heatsink compound is garbage & should be replaced as I noted above.

Overall Review: This will be the processor on my son's Ultimate Gaming Computer. You don't need to overclock this processor! The Memtest86+ results put other processor to shame...:)

Small with lots of storage!2/3/2009 9:21:19 PM

Pros: Low price. Works perfectly. Small with protective rubberized covering. Some say it won't fit on a key ring, but not a problem for me... I don't keep mine on a key ring...:)

Cons: None at all, almost perfect!

Overall Review: To be perfect, it would come with a lanyard.

NICE!2/1/2009 4:15:14 PM

Pros: Very nice memory, runs perfectly at the motherboard auto settings. Passes all Memtest86+ testing. Some reviews said it doesn't look nice, but we think the black heatsinks look great!

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: I'd recommend & wouldn't hessitate to buy this brand of memory again.

Nice, but...2/1/2009 4:06:36 PM

Pros: This is a very nice, well built power supply. It stays cool & the fan is very quiet, adjusting to a higher speed as needed.

Cons: It's not modular, so sparing out the unused cables & connectors can be a hassle, but doable.

Good Stuff!!2/1/2009 4:02:31 PM

Pros: The Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 965 Nehalem 3.2GHz boxed set heatsink had some funky stuff on it. We scrapped it off & applied this thermal compound. It mixes up nicely in the glass bottle & the brush in the cap makes applying it a piece-of-cake.

Cons: Small amount in the bottle, but you really don't need much.

Overall Review: I woudn't hesitate to buy more.

Very nice, with minor issues.2/1/2009 3:49:49 PM

Pros: Low cost & works perfectly. Black & silver face plates are provided. Blue power LED (always on) is less distracting then the red LED on other models... actually looks very nice.

Cons: Minor scratches on the face plates (both?). The hard wired cable is short, another 6" would have been nice, but I was able to get it to reach. Side mounting screws only, I needed bottom. The case pops open easily & the circuit board only occupies the front quarter, so I was able to drill & tap the bottom mounting screws that I required.

Overall Review: If the hard wired cord was a bit longer & if the face plates were protected better I'd give this item 5 eggs.

Almost Perfect1/22/2009 3:38:27 PM

Pros: Very easy installation. Lots of LEDs so you know how everything is working. 1000Mbps (Gigabit) on my existing Cat 5 cable, didn't have to install Cat 5e. Metal enclosure, not plastic & heavy enough so it doesn't get pulled off the table by the attached cables. Newer style smaller, lighter power supply.

Cons: The clear front face was installed poorly. it was not set into the face recess, so it stuck up. I don't know how this passed quality control? I was able to heat the plastic (adhesive underneath) with a hair dryer & move it where it should be. The LEDs behind the clear front don't line up squarely. They are visable, but they're not lined up as they should be... kinda annoying, if you're picky & there's no way to correct this fault.

Overall Review: The price was okay, but the lack of free shipping or rebate makes this switch on the expensive side.

D-Link DGL-4100 ROCKS!2/14/2007 9:38:36 PM

Pros: Very easy setup! No need to read the docs, the online setup is easy & will guide you thru the steps. The only change I made was to add a password.

Cons: The firmware was several issues behind, but on the positive side, the router setup connected me to the download site. The upgrade was a no brainer!

Overall Review: Other reviewers said the blue LEDs were too bright. They are bright if you look directly at the router. My router is a couple feet to my left & the LED brightness is almost dim, when compared to my other network devices. My 16 year old son likes the bright blue LEDs!

Recommend Product!6/24/2006 7:05:29 PM

Pros: This is the second one of these that I've purchased from Newegg.com & I was not disappointed! It's OEM, but it comes with everthing you need. what more could you ask for?!

Cons: We Installed in our gaming computer which runs WIN/XP (SP2). We had some issues with installing the drivers, but I don't recall this problem on my other computer. I'm thinking it was "user error"! Either way, once WIN/XP accepted the drivers, the controller works perfectly!

Overall Review: This controller is a great value for the cost, so don't pass it by!

Excellent Drive! Excellent Price!6/24/2006 6:54:58 PM

Pros: When we were looking for two 250 GB drives to increase the storage on our gaming computer, the reviews pointed us to this drive. THANK YOU! The installation, including Ghosting the drives was a piece-of cake!

Cons: This was an OEM drive, so we had to down load the disk manager software from the Samsung web site. The softeware required some searching, but it was there!

Overall Review: Do not expect the Samsung disk manager software to copy (clone) your old drive. It works well for the partitioning & formating, but hung up (failed) on the cloning. We used Ghost 9, which worked perfectly.
