Great Product!
Pros: Well-built and sturdy. Runs very cool. Simple to install and hook up. Top and sides of case are metal, not plastic. Fan runs very quiet and seems adequate for cooling. I can run all four disks as separate drives, or combine them (I prefer them as separate drives). If you want a RAID setup, get the SATA version (T4S); IDE vs. SATA disk prices are about equal.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: You MUST remove the top cover when installing disks; it’s the only way to get the disks properly inserted and secured. The English translation of the instructions isn’t the best, but they are understandable. Just follow the steps, and it will work. I’ve got 4 x 320Gb (Seagate) disks installed and the cover doesn’t even get warm after running several hours (I’ve been copying over several hundred gigs, so the disks are in use). As instructed, I used the Master/Slave jumper settings, not CS; maybe that’s why it runs cool. Single external disks (and their power bricks) had been multiplying like rabbits around my computers, so I was looking to free up some USB ports and power outlets; this looks like the perfect solution. I need a lot of storage for digital images and projects.
NOT a Class 6 card
Pros: High capacity
Cons: Too Slow
Overall Review: I got two of these cards, in part because they were labeled as a Class 6 card and were cheaper than SanDisk 8 Gb cards. They work, but they are slow. I had used all SanDisk cards until this time. The SanDisk Ultra II cards, which had been Class 4 and now seem to have been downgraded to Class 2, are all noticeably faster than these Kingston cards. Same camera (pro level with a large buffer); images write to SanDisk cards very fast, but write much slower to these Kingston cards. I guess I'll stick with SanDisk. When I'm shooting macro of flowers, trying to shoot as quickly as possible between breezes, I need a card that will accept images quickly so I'm not waiting for the card to take the images when the wind stops.
Excellent monitor!
Pros: Uniform color; no backlight leakage; very well calibrated out of the box; 16:10 ratio
Cons: Connectivity (but see comment below); heavy (but I'm not carrying it around)
Overall Review: This is an excellent monitor. As other reviewers have noted, it comes already calibrated nearly perfectly; when I ran my calibration software, the change was very small. It is rather heavy, and deep for a flat panel monitor, but the stand holds it balanced very nicely. Having moved up from a 20" flat panel, this is a major step up. I like the 16:10 ratio, rather than the usual 16:9 in widescreen monitors. If you are looking for a monitor that will enable critical work with images, without spending $2,000 or more, this is an excellent choice. The colors and brightness are uniform from one side of the monitor, to the middle, to the other side, and there’s no backlight leakage. My computer has HDMI but no DVI ports, while this monitor has DVI but no HDMI, so I bought a separate cable with HDMI on one end and DVI-D on the other, and it works perfectly.
Excellent Drive Enclosure
Pros: This is a great little box. Well made, sturdy, fits together snugly. The drives fit into the rails easily but tightly, and connect well with the SATA power and data contacts. After loading two 1 TB drives and using it for a few days, I ordered a second one of these units for future use. I appreciate being able to use the two drives independently. The USB external connection is slower than eSATA, of course, but I use these drives for backup of digital images, so the slower access speed isn't an issue. I'm using two WD "green" drives, which don't get as hot as the others, and the case barely feels warm on the outside after several hours of use. The fan is very quiet, and has its own switch.
Cons: Only downside I can think of is the lack of an eSATA connection, but computer manufacturers aren't rushing to add eSATA ports the way they once added USB ports.
Overall Review: All around, this is a great enclosure
Nice enclosure
Pros: Nice, solid enclosure that assembles easily and precisely
Cons: none
Overall Review: I've stuffed at least a half dozen drives into external enclosures and this one by far was the easiest. Everything fits together perfectly (screw holes in enclosure actually line up with mounting holes in the drive). Drive attaches to internal circuit board, then screws hold enclosure to drive and end caps. Nicely designed and built. Drive gets a little warm during use, but not nearly warm enough to be a problem.
Great drive, great price
Pros: Runs quiet and cool. 320 Gb for $75 is a great deal.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: I've got 3 of these drives inside a drive box (Venus T4U) for redundant backup, along with a slightly older Seagate 320 Gb model with 16 Mb cache. These things are cool and quiet. Can't see any difference between the 16 Mb vs. the 8 Mb cache, but they're connected via USB. Great drive for a great price. Would definitely buy again.
