Loving every Fractal purchase I've made7/13/2021 6:30:53 PM

Pros: most everything

Cons: daisy chain SATA power cables couldn't fit dual 2½" HDD in 3½" bay tray

Overall Review: Runs a Ryzen 9 5900x + RX580 + 64 gig + 2 NVME + 2 SSD + 2 Velociraptors + 4 other hard drives and all the fans to make it noisy. I also like how the fan stays on after power down for a bit so things don't stew in their own heat.

small and cute compared to the SilverStone Nitrogon that came out of the case7/13/2021 6:21:17 PM

Pros: keeps cpu cool

Cons: didn't end up using the fan because I needed two, one on the cooler and one case exhauster driven by the same PWM. Mixing fan models on same PWM did not work well.

Overall Review: Would have preferred something much larger for less fan spin up. Would have preferred dual fans per Con above.

Bulldozes through calculations7/13/2021 6:14:59 PM

Pros: absolute monster for multicore performance

Cons: availability drives up price

Overall Review: Used for astrophotography processing with PixInsight - an application that can keep all cores running for decent lengths of time.

Does what it's supposed to for four year old tech7/13/2021 6:08:32 PM

Pros: 1080p at ultra

Cons: runs hot and loud extravagant price for four year old budget card

Overall Review: First of all I'd like to bless the non gamers for driving up the price of gaming equipment. In person, with a blunt instrument... ASUS did not hit this one out of the park. The heat sink needed repasting. It needs a custom fan curve to keep it below 60°C and the GPU Twerk program doesn't play well with Windows UAC - you will need to create your own windows task to launch it at system start. After that it does manage to stay below 60°C and cool off quickly. But you definitely hear it.

Works in everything BUT what I bought it for...6/8/2018 9:26:19 PM

Pros: Well, it does work in most everything but my Jeep

Cons: Well, it doesn't work in my Jeep. That's what I bought it for.

Overall Review: Filled it with 59 Gb of music - doesn't work in my Wrangler. Too slow - times out before it can fill the mp3 tag database. It does work in my work truck (2016 Ram), it works in Windows and Ubuntu computers, it works in Android. Prior Team 32 Gb and 64 Gb thumb drives worked in the Wrangler, but with low cost comes a little less performance these days it seems... At least it still works after three days. Along with this I purchased two USB2 Team 32 Gb thumb drives that didn't make it through one use. I liken them to LED light bulbs. I have seven year old samples that still work fine, I have one week old samples that were stillborn.

"Disk is Write Protected"6/6/2018 2:30:35 AM

Pros: not sure

Cons: First use - tried to fill it with music. Bought two of them, one stopped at 16 gig, the second stopped at 26 gig. Both refuse to write any more. Can't even format them.

Not it's fault it doesn't work in my application11/20/2016 12:13:58 PM

Pros: it does what it's advertised to do

Cons: Flimsy wire bracket stand thing expensive for a 120mm case fan

Overall Review: I purchased this to act as an external computer fan for an entertainment center (CPU sits in the center speaker shelf). Unfortunately all of this cases external USB ports are powered all the time - so the fan would have run continuously, not only when the computer was on. Not the fans fault.

Three strikes and it's out3/26/2016 6:40:56 PM

Pros: 'Full size' laptop that you can expand for the same price as some of those new Windows tablets and teeny netbooks

Cons: It's refurbished. Your mileage may vary

Overall Review: Yeah, paid extra to have it shipped fast - it got here fast, but now it's RMA, and that slow both ways. USB 3.0 ports on the left never worked, the 'e' key only works about half the time, then the WiFi decided to not Fi. Hopefully the second one is fully functional.

Slow but does work2/20/2016 9:20:45 AM

Pros: Able to work with (most) mismatched drives.

Cons: Slow: 45 MB/s read 15 MB/s write - your mileage will vary. With most transactions the writes get cached into RAM, it's only when you run out of RAM things really slow down.

Overall Review: So I purchased this to make a RAID with a bunch of 500G drives I had laying around, 2½ Seagate Momentus hybrid drive, 2½ 500GB HGST 5200 rpm (can't remember where it came from), 2½ HGST 7200 rpm (from a PS4) and a 3½ WD Green. Just seemed a shame to let them sit in a bag. 1st iteration didn't work - the 2½ Samsung didn't play well with others. It still works, just not in this array. I didn't expect rocket performance using a pile of laying around drives, but I was at least hoping for write performance like the slowest of the drives. Not even getting that, not even getting half that. Oh well. At least RAM caching works well and I have 32 GB of that. As long as my file transactions stay under 32 GB it works pretty well.

Both died6/13/2013 6:03:17 PM

Pros: None

Cons: Can't write to them.

Overall Review: Bought two of them - neither would work with included adapter or another previously owned multi card reader. Stopped fighting and RMA'd them.

Basic2/9/2011 6:31:26 AM

Pros: Does exactly what is advertised. Low cost.

Cons: Next to the USB ports are labels and knockouts for 1394 and e-Sata connections. Do not remove the knockouts because the ports are not there, just the labels for them.

Overall Review: A new plastic cover with only the labels for what is actually there wouldn't remind me of what they took out.

Works as advertised2/6/2011 8:13:23 AM

Pros: Does exactly what is advertised on the website. Nothing less and certainly nothing more. Simple build. So why two eggs? Read on.

Cons: Proudly labeled on the front are 1394 and e-sata ports with knockouts to expose the port. They turn out to be unpopulated. This does not whisper into your ear, "delight the customer." It rudely barks, "CHEAP!"

Overall Review: If the plastic faceplate didn't have the holes or labels for stuff that didn't exist then I never would have cared about what I'm missing. Thanks for reminding me every time I look at the case...

OK for price11/11/2009 1:58:44 PM

Pros: Cheap - works

Cons: 802.11N without 5 gig Hz

Overall Review: I found out why this was so inexpensive. I didn't know you could get N without the 5 gHz. Wish I had looked around for a 5 gHz card for interference reasons.

Pros: Replaced a DI-625 - everything is about triple the speed.

Cons: I hear it. It makes a whining noise. Do the lights really need to be that bright?

Overall Review: Wife's VPN connection was a pain to set up - VPN fault, not the router. My VPN sailed right through.

Also a replacement power supply for Netgear SC1013/7/2009 6:40:43 PM

Pros: After 4 years my Netgear SC101 went on the fritz with a blinking green light - dead power supply. I found this on Newegg and it was close enough to take a shot... Woo Hoo it works!

Cons: none

Hate8/18/2008 9:03:55 AM

Pros: It's Bluetooth

Cons: Can't point worth a darn. The most expensive mouse I've ever purchased.

Overall Review: When I move the mouse I don't expect to wait two seconds for the cursor to catch up.

All I'd ever buy again7/16/2008 8:26:23 AM

Pros: no noise - it's the shape of things to come. I for one never climbed on the 700-1000w bandwagon with 12 fans and the ability to make your toast on the video cards.

Cons: Big n heavy - may not fit in smaller HTTPC cases.

Overall Review: I got around to rebuilding the system that was replaced by this build. How did I ever stand the NOISE, NOISE, NOISE? I want another for my old computer...

fimally7/11/2008 8:16:59 AM

Pros: compact and copper, fits (barely) in my Apevia Q-pak 2, enough to keep a X2 4850e cool with a 80 mm pwm fan

Cons: loud fan - but it can be fitted w/ an 80mm (and looks like 92mm).

Overall Review: I bought this for a previous build but ended up using it to rescue my new monster. Heat pipes and 120 mm pwm fans may be all the rage but if they don't fit and you can't get them to cool, a mid sized chunk of copper is still the ticket.

Noisy7/10/2008 8:56:55 AM

Pros: Spins a disk and reads it

Cons: Far too loud for a desktop application. Pulled it out of my latest build.

Overall Review: This is the second Lite-On drive I've had. This is the second loud Lite-On drive I've had. There won't be another.

update to last review6/24/2008 7:17:13 PM

Pros: 'Useless blue light' now works - I can't explain why.

Cons: It's a little too wide to fit into the cubby picked for it and now it rests on it's side. Not the case's fault, I should have used a tape measure...

Overall Review: I spent about two days in system testing and software loading with the case cover off and during most of that time the temperature sensors either read "-- --" or nothing at all. After the cover was on and the case put into it's 'final resting place' the temperature sensors show numbers. Short of adding my own thermocouples I'll guess they're on the mark. Thank you to Apevia for repsonding and offering assistance but it looks like I don't need it.

Malleable6/21/2008 9:10:43 PM

Pros: It's big. It cools. You get to choose your fan. The heatpipes are flexible.

Cons: The photos don't convey how big it is.

Overall Review: I tried to fit it to a GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H in an APEVIA X-QPACK2. After about 2 hours of trying I decided to RMA. The next day a coworker convinced me to try again. After 'um' modifying it, it works fine. I'm amazed that the heatpipes didn't crack after all the bends I tried out. It's now much shorter than originally and I couldn't fit the 120 mm fan but after beating on the processor it's still under 50°.
