SonicWALL 01-SSC-4972 TZ 215 Wireless-N Secure Upgrade Plus Program Hardware with 2 Years of the Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite
SonicWALL 01-SSC-4972 TZ 215 Wireless-N Secure Upgrade Plus Program Hardware with 2 Years of the Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite

Pros: Great sales price right now. Seems to work fine. Initial testing, so will update if it changes. Configuration is simpler than previous UTM device (Juniper SSG-5). VPN Setup is easier. Miss some of the higher end routing functions the SSG had, but based on forum postings and pricing was not interested in moving to the SRX platform.

Cons: If you are using a connection to the internet on WAN port that does not use the default MTU of 1500 (like DSL for instance) the SonicWall device registration will not work and will just seem to stall. Although you will be able to browse internet through web browser. Anyway, the wait time for support was kinda longer than I am used to (about 15 minutes) for what is an enterprise product, but once on with support, it was resolved with in 10 minutes.

Overall Review: Caution - Newegg does not make it clear that this is an UPGRADE from previous SonicWall hardware or competing firewall. Luckily I was upgrading from a competing device that was on their list.

Pros: Very fast, large. Actually seems to have improved battery life in my HP 8740W laptop.

Cons: Not a real fan of the Norton Ghost software. The drive, even with the latest firmware, seems to have problems with sleeping in windows 7. Already had the drive corrupt when waking from sleep after being in my laptop case. Luckily Windows was able to repair the drive. The boot times are fast enough that I will no longer do that. Too much risk.

Overall Review: Ended up installing fresh copy of Windows 7 since there was some other software I was going to update anyway.
